I think this movie is shot in the real locations and has quite a lot of Czech actors etc. in it although the main actors are Hollywood folks and speak English etc. Normally I wouldn't excuse anything in a movie but this seems like it stays fairly true to the original events etc. so I might still see it regardless of all the obvious initial negatives.
 
I found another sci-fi classic being in production. Seems that movie based on almost one century old sci-fi novella Armageddon 2419 A.D. would be finished in 2017:

As many here probably knows, the main character Buck Rogers appeared in Fallout 2 in disguise. We've been seeing him as Chuck Stodgers, hidden in a secret room in local mines in Broken Hills. I'm afraid that this movie won't turn out to be good though, since the same studio has created a couple of CGI blockbusters such as Transformers. Oh well.
 
Saw Straight Outta Compton, the movie based on the rise of the rap-group N.W.A. Very topical subject with the unrest around police brutality against blacks in US. Eazy-E, who passed away from HIV/AIDS, didn't get to have his say in the making of this movie and it shows, Ice Cube and especially Dre made the movie and were depicted in a positive way.

The brother from another planet; U.S. 1984
Nice comedy, dirty Harlem streets, this movie has nailed the 80's atmosphere alright.

Dead end drive-in; Australia 1986
Dystopian flick, with gangs of thugs rampaging in the streets, true Australian madness.
 
Watched "The King's Choice" in cinema today with dad and brother, "Kongens nei" in Norwegian, about the first 2 days of the German invasion, and the evacuation of the king
It wasn't bad at all, and I was pleased to see a movie re-creation of the Blücher sinking, wich was an extraordinarily ballsy move in an otherwise meek reaction to the invasion.

I then went to IMDB, saw the movie had good reviews, with the exception of one - which was guilty of one of my biggest movie-criticism pet peeves: the ignoramus who doesn't know the back-story, and then judges historical events based on his own opinion... why are these people even allowed to express their opinion!?

It wouldn't matter so much, if it wasn't for these idiots actually adding their points to the movie rating system, making IMDB one of the more unreliable websites to look for good movie ratings.
You can find these douchebags in every movie "I disagree with the German invasion of Poland, lol, why would they invade a neighbor? So unrealistic! 0/10!"
 
Watched Trainspotting. Good reference material, can't say I likesay "Enjoyed" it tae much mate, specially with my own phobia of needles and you know the dead decomposing baby but I don't regret watching it.

Did I mention how good Doctor Strange was yet? Well, it was pretty good.


Personally if I made a Strange movie I would have went a little more off the beaten path, but for an origin flick it was interesting enough to shake things up a bit. The visuals might have been the best I have seen in a movie in recent memory. When he goes into other dimensions, it looks like Ditko ejaculated right onto the movie screen. I wish he would have spoken some of the spells out aloud like in the comics a bit, but I can see how that might get corny.

Of course the villain was another one and done...kinda. We actually have three villains in one movie in a way. Mordo turns on them in the end because of how destructive the Ancient Ones choices turned out being, so he will be one of those reoccurring villains. Kaecelius had reasonable motives from his point of view, so at least that made sense. They did briefly show Dormammu, who didn't look much like the comics but then again he wasn't in bodily form.

The final battle at the end involved Strange using the Eye of Agammoto (Time Stone) to rewind time after Hong Kong was destroyed. Then he flew into the Dark Dimension that was opening up over the city to confront Dormammu. This was one of the coolest parts, aside from Strange's initial introduction to the mystical arts, since he caught Dormammu in a timeloop over and over again, where Strange was repeatedly killed and brought back to life to bug the shit out of him.

I rank it in my top 5 MCU movies. Something like this I guess in no special order.

Doctor Strange was boring. It disappointed me. The only thing that stood out to me was the visuals and that is not nearly enough to make a movie fun.

Hacksaw Ridge on the other hand was cool.

Doctor Strange just had that same old marvel story formula. Except this time the humor was idiotic, and cumberbatch isn't as charismatic as Strange, as RDJ was as Stark. Mads Mikkelsen was wasted on the bland villain and overal only the visuals stood out to me.

Hacksaw Ridge on the other hand, while bland in the visuals and with less gore than I was promised, provided a story with excellent by the books structure, dialogue, pacing, acting, humor, etcetera. It reminded me of a slightly older style of hollywood films. And there were all these actors I never thought anything of or plain thought sucked, cast in roles they were actually fit for. It's definitely fun seeing Vince Vaughn pull off a drill sergeant character.

One of the most brutal war movies I've watched. Based on historical events, when Japanese secret services (Kempeitai) assembled Unit 731 in order to provide biological and chemical weapons research. Thousands of Chinese prisoners of war were tortured and killed by this unit, and according to the book Japan's Gestapo written by British historian Mark Felton, the Americands protected many Japanese scientists from Unit 731 after the war in exchange for their biological and chemical warfare knowledge.
