The Ultimate Movie Thread of Ultimate Destiny

The Redux version is pretty awful. The extra scenes completely ruin the pacing of the film.

I have watched a few good movies recently including Chronicle, Machinist, and Drive. I think Drive is one of the better movies I have watched this year. The dumbass that tried to sue over false advertisement, should be taken out back and sterilized.

Drive was lacking in actual driving. I'm big on my movie driving scenes. Ronin. Bullitt. et al.

I watched Polytechnique yesterday

A good "massacre-film", which imo passed the test of being both realistic, but also respectful towards the victims in the event it is based on.
During the build-up towards the violence, I am allready fearing for the to-be victims who are being introduced - especially since I know that it's all based in real events.
Also, it chose to be very point-by-point to the real event - as far as I know - unlike "Elephant" which was much more loosely based on the shooting it depicts.

Polytechnique is also in black and white, which sombres everything down, and gives the movie a very depressive vibe - something that fits perfectly.

I was a tad bit confused at the way some scenes ended and begun, where I felt they coulda done a wee bit better job at informing me where we are, but then again, I was high.

Please.

Spider-man 2 a 1 out of 5? Give me a break.

How so?

I thought it was largely ridiculous and pointless and without much in the way of redeeming qualities. I was pretty surprised since I'd read everywhere that it was better than the first movie.

Tentative list of superhero movie ratingz:

1:
Spidey 2
Daredevil
Lee's Hulk

2:
Spidey 1 + 3 (1 is possibly a 3)
2004 Punisher
Norton Hulk
Fantastic Four (possibly a 1? Can't remember much about it)
Iron Man
Superman Returns

3:
X-Men
X-Men 3

4:
Watchmen
Batman Begins (possibly a 3?)
Dark Knight Returns
Kick-Ass
X-Men 2

5:
uhhh...

I guess opinions do differ a lot don't they? I'll give it a shot....

Superhero movie ratings:

1:
Daredevil - Ben Affleck wasn't the problem for me. It was Jennifer Garner.
Hulk - Long, drawn out, and boring as hell.
Xmen3 - Awful execution. Switching up the directors ruined this movie.
Ghost Rider 1 and 2 - 1 was pretty bad and it made it worse because I am a Ghost Rider fan. 2 made Nicholas Cage look REALLY bad.

2:
Superman Returns - Please give Superman another enemy in a movie besides Zod and Luthor.
Fantastic Four 1 and 2 - 1 made Dr. Doom pretty lame, but it was passable. 2 turned Galactus into a giant cloud. Nuff said.
Incredible Hulk - It was ok, but Avengers did Hulk waaay better.
Spidey 3 - More of a comedy really. Forcing Ramie to jam in Venom ruined this one.
Xmen - Was amazing at the time, but in hindsight, I don't care for it anymore.

3:
Spidey 1 and 2 - Both of these movies are still very watchable for me today. Certain parts I didn't like, the Iron Goblin, No Gwen Stacy, not enough wisecracks, but overall I enjoyed both.
Xmen2 - Still very watchable. Was one of my favorites for a long time.
Batman Begins - A good movie all around, superhero or not.
Kick Ass - Loved it. I really liked Big Daddy.
Iron Man 2 - Entertaining but slightly unfocused.
Thor - This is one of my wifes favorites. I wonder why?
Captain America - I really liked this one. I like the setting and think the atmosphere was perfect.
Xmen First Class - Magneto carried this movie. Kevin Bacon did pretty well too.

4:
Iron Man - One of my favorites. Robert Downey continues to impress me. I love Jeff Bridges with a passion. If I was a woman I would carry his child.
Dark Knight - Heath Ledger...blah, blah, blah.
Avengers - A few things kept it from being a five. I have reviewed it on here several times already, so I won't go too in depth, but I love this movie. I really dislike Scarlet though.
Watchman - I wish this movie did better at the box office. It's a shame more people didn't get what it was going for.

5:
Hard to say. Do perfect movies exist? I can't rate a 5 for some reason. Dark Knight is damn close.

Edit: Figured I would add a few comments.

Can someone sell me on the Avengers? I was utterly unenthused. I'll admit I'm not a big superhero fan, though I thought Iron Man (1) was fantastic. It just seemed like a barely coherent story with a bunch of big names and $200 million to spend.

Scales of 1-10 are always stupid and inaccurate, I refuse to rate things that way. Even number scales are horrible in general.

I prefer a scale of 1-9. Assigning a number to a movie is still a pretty lazy way of rating it though.

Numerical ratings for movies should disappear.

I just saw this post and I agree with you.

Uhhh... Explain :I
Why is 1-9 better than 1-10?

Does that mean you'd also approve of 1-11?

Theres too many values in 1-10 anyway, if a movie got 7 or 8, what does that tell you?
5 is perfect: Horrid, Bad, Okay, Good, Excellent. Tells you what you need to know before seeing the movie for yourself.
