Todd admits Fallout 4's Dialogue didn't work, you'll never guess what happened next

Those comments just show that the people who REALLY like Fallout 4 do not like role-playing games. The game was made for people who do not like role-playing games so of course they love it.
I agree, and it seems like this isn't just limited to Bethesda; Bioware's recent efforts also seem to be designed for players who don't enjoy RPG's. As a result I'm not very interested in their products these days.

FNV is totally canon to me, but it is canon in the same vein that Fallout Tactics is canon to me.

I'm not as much a canon person anymore in that I'd sweat too much about certain inconsistencies (done my share of commenting on that). If it was up to me, the next Fallout would jump into a canonical black hole and build anew from there (obviously witholding to the great war and other grander scale history-specific lore). I never looked at Fallout as some sort of dynamic lorebook as some seem to (suppose you remember few of those from Bethie boards... and perhaps there are few here too), so in that regard it's enough for me that what is there, is used well. It's not an anything goes situation, though, not in the slightest. But I might be a bit more lenient about it than some other old guard fans.

The gameplay, though... That's the spine that holds what ever art and writing there is together. Crack your spine and you're paralyzed... That's what the new Fallouts are - as far as I'm concerned - on top of their other faults, or strengths.

Well if they don't bother improving then we can expect more of this Fallout:

And Todd is getting a lifetime achievement award? Lifetime achievement for Dumbing Down Games. Honestly, I wish the series Fallout would just tank. Take it out back, put it out of its misery, and bury it. To believe Beth will learn how to make an RPG will be the day hell freezes over.

Dr. Ian Malcolm: "Ah, now eventually you do plan to have RPG in your, in your 'RPG' game, right? Hello?"

A Fallout New Vegas mixed with Van Buren is my own personal dream.

A Van Buren on its own would be good enough of course. But considering that I think Fallout New Vegas had some of the best writing I saw in the last gen of gaming, a mix of the two to me would be perfect.

The guys doing the fan-made Van Buren, they gon' tweak it to fit with FNV?

To be honest I wouldn't want them to. It's more just my own personal headcanon. I'll have no problem mixing the two together in my mind if there are some inconsistencies.

Pretty big of an inconsistency when it comes to Hoover Dam.

I've only read the rudimentary details on Van Buren's story. Want to discover stuff for myself if it's ever made. If I prefer the story in it to Vegas's, sure, I'll be mixing stuff about in my head about what the Fallout universe is at this point.

At the same time, whatever. Technically Fallout 3's canon, so canon can fuck off.

If anything, I know I'll enjoy Van Buren's gameplay over Bethesda's shoddy FPS system.

Lake Mead is irradiated, the dam was populated by Trogs before NCR came around and there was a whole community around this part. No mention of House and no war with Legion. IIRC there's not a whole lot of mention at all about Vegas and House was around by the time NCR strolled in, so, yeah.

That's workable. It would only be a major problem if there was a whole storyline set in the Mojave. As far as I'm aware (from looking at the map), the closest we get to the Vegas map is Hoover Dam.

What a token way of pretending like he's actually self-critical.
Frankly, I feel insulted; it's like someone totalling your car and acting like he's the bigger man because he owned up and told you he did. That's not an achievement, that's your responsibility as an allegedly decent human being.

Of course, his stalwart defenders are going to use this as proof that he's actually aware of his mistakes and gives a shit about his fanbase from now on.

Obsidian and InXile need to drop their fantasy game obsession for a little while and make a replacement for Fallout now that Bethesda turned Fallout into Borderlands with worse writing and characters. Either that or make another Fallout New Vegas.

Wasteland 2 was great and it's time for Wasteland 3 or the Van Buren thing they trademarked or whatever.

InXile did buy the Van Buren name.
If they went to all the effort of buying it and not use it for a post-apocalyptic game franchise, that would be a really bad move I would say >_>.
Wasteland 3: Van Buren?

It really shows Bethesda's 'infatuation' with BoS's PA. It's obvious from the way they are stuck with the 50s, Vaults, and shit like that. Fallout 1 -> T-51b Power Armor, Fallout 2 -> Advanced Power Armor, Fallout: New Vegas -> NCR (or was it Desert?) Ranger's Armor, showing the original creators's creativity flowing with each game, of (supposedly) powerful faction in the current story of each game. Meanwhile, Bethesda's stuck with showing Power Armor in their game's cover, and the Steam page even show the Vault Boy! Like, hell, they really can't think of anything else, eh?

On topic of Van Buren, I haven't read enough the design documents, but..... man, this would be me getting another 'what could have been' vibe. Fallout 1 and 2 didn't have expansion pack(s) (and they really don't need it, though perhaps Fixt and RP kind of count as expansion maybe), but I can imagine the idea for Van Buren's DLC. Taking place in the Mojave Wasteland beyond the Hoover Dam, our character would be welcomed with, 'Welcome to New Vegas, enjoy your stay.' How unfortunate.....

Fallout 5 will just be a collection of Fallout 3 and 4 mods (including quest mods) put together so they don't actually have to make the game. It will be the next logical step from them releasing paid DLC and "remasters" that already exist as free mods.

And it'll still take them several years to get it developed, and it'll still be riddled with dozens of bugs and glitches.
