Top Ten Things That Should Be Illegal but Somehow Aren't

Why?

(Because of course... if they are driving the speed limit, one should not be able to catch up to them without breaking the law. ;) )

Speed limits are [usually posted] maximum speeds deemed safe for various locations, and road conditions. For decades 55mph (88.5 kph) was top speed on US interstate highways; it's now often higher then that, but not everywhere, and not more than 70mph. Side-streets in residential neighborhoods are typically 25mph or even 15mph. Commercial parking lots are often 10mph.

It's funny, but there are places in New Orleans (due to sloth/apathy/parsimony, or ignorance) where the posted speed limit is 15mph, but is raised to 20mph near schools zones, when kids are present.

Almost all states let you go 9, 10, even 15 mph over the speed limit on the highway no problem. Morons in the passing lane doing the speed limit cause people behind to pass them on the right which is way more dangerous for all nearby traffic. The passing lane or fast lane is for passing other cars. If you are in that lane and getting passed by traffic on your right, you are a fucking asshole.

People aren't supposed to drive [for extended periods] in the passing lane. As for the lax speed limit enforcement, that's the fault of the state/police; shame on them for that. Doubtless people have been killed because they allowed drivers the habit of speeding.

If the person in front of you is driving faster than you are, then you don't need to pass them... and can't even do so without breaking the speed limit.

Every driver should honor their oath, but unfortunately it means nothing to the GTA generation.

Try living up to that standard on the New Jersey turnpike at 6:30 am. If you have half a brain you’ll move over.

Move over? Do you mean to stop driving in the passing lane when not passing?

That's already illegal.

Edit:*...But apparently not illegal in most states. (!?)

It's illegal in Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and West Virginia.

Yeah. That’s basically what my original post stated. Maybe I don’t words too good. Let’s try this again...
To clarify: NJTPK at 6:30 am is full of cars in three lanes bumper to bumper going 70-80 mph.
If someone is in the fast lane going slower than anyone on their right, they are dangerous and an asshole and don’t know how to drive and should probably move to whatever country bumpkin state you live in.

I've been there, and it's worse here. I cannot drive two blocks from the house without getting cut-off, or seeing someone drive the wrong way down a one-way street, or make U-turns against oncoming traffic.

I had a guy pass me on the right, and then make a left U-turn closer than 16 feet to my bumper. I was going 35MPH on a single lane road. It's mind numbing to contemplate the mentality of a driver who thinks to pass the car ahead of them to take a U turn that is within 40 feet of them.... and risk a side-wall driver-side collision.

It's common here to see drivers make left or right turns from the center lane---in front of adjacent moving cars. Their only concern is where they want to go in the moment.

Nobody knows how to drive here, except tourists....and no one from here knows how to drive on icy roads... Many have never seen snow. I have seen a car with its back bumper wrapped around a street lamp post, with the ends nearly touching. AFAIK, one has to be driving about 50 mph +/- to do that.

People here drive their car wherever their nose is pointed irrespective of any traffic law. People here will leave their car idling in the lane [blocking traffic] to pop into a corner store for cigarettes----or to grab anything that looks like an Amazon package.

Even if it was illegal in most states, it's up to the police to enforce it (somehow) and the judges to deem it worthy of some sort of punishment. I've always been told it was illegal here (none of those states you listed) but it's never enforced or punished.
Legality or not, if traffic is moving that quickly on the left, get the fuck over especially if you're not passing. The traffic must flow.
Though, the only speeding ticket I got and had to appear in court for there was a lady in there who had hit a cop car on a snowy highway. The judge asked for her to describe what happened and she kept saying left lane and the judge kept asking her if she meant the passing lane.

Not sure why, didn't seem to matter in the end and it was more just pedantic. Like when a teacher makes you ask if you may go to the bathroom rather than can you.

Pretending to not understand colloquialisms should be illegal.

I don't agree with that one at all. That basically enslaves a person to their spouse and if they get into a bad relationship and the other one drags out the divorce procedure then it means you can't fuck anyone at all cause it's illegal. Cheating is bad and all but the law has no right to dictate that part of life. Give 'em an inch and they'll take the mile. They would not stop there and would start to meddle in other aspects of life, especially marriage. Then there's other issues such as rape by force, rape by being drugged, open relationships, he said she said and being on a "break" to name a few. But sure, give the government control of our love lives, nothing could go wrong with that.
Well it's a very simple matter of personal responsibility. Marraige is meaningless if you can just ignore your marriage with no consequences. What's more your word is now worthless. It's very simple Tho. If you dont want to be in that situation then simply do not get married. Kind of like how if you dont wanna get arrested you dont sell drugs. Choice and consequences is not oppression.

On the pragmatic side what a wonderful can of worms that would be to open for all the shitty marriages with shitty, paranoid people trying to create false narratives of cheating, no longer a personal issue but a legal one with jail-time. The amount of abuse and manipulation that would occur with a legal sword of damocles like that in place would far outweigh the benefit of "Cheating is shitty, don't do that". It'd just be horribly weaponized.

I think in most states your spouse isn’t entitled to alimony if you divorce because they were cheating.

Wait? You want to tell me in the US you guys can not drive as fast as you want? Like I said I am from Germany. We do not know what maximum speeds are. There are highways here in Germany were you can drive with 300mp/h. If your car was capable of doing so.

Yes by shitty people. Just don't marry shitty people. Pretty simple. People "commit" too quickly and with obviously horrible people with shit morals and then wanna act surprised when their retarded monkey brain has fucked them over.
