Youtube and Fox are slaves to their advertisers like most media companies. The problem people have with censorship on the youtube front is that the tools they use to take down videos can be easily abused.
It's still not >cencorship< though. It's companies making use of their rights. Is it always fair? Is it always good? No. Don't assume that I am on their side with all what they do. I am very crititical about Youtube and particularly Facebook. Which is also something that's currecntly getting more attention by the authorities when you consider that some of the big tech companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon had to be present in a hearing. They have a monopoly on the market right now and it could happen at some point that they will be split up like Standard Oil once. But that's a whole different discussion.
Simply screaming on top of your lungs cencorship! Makes you look kinda foolish in my opinion. Not only because it's factually wrong but it also doesn't help in resolving the issue.
These companies have taken money from the government to build these sites and being classified as platforms should mean that they have no responsibility for what's posted on the site. However they act more like publishers editing, hiding, and deleting things they don't like. They only say they are platforms so that they are protected legally.
.
Again I criticise their practise. But still it's not cencorship. It just means that those companies have very huge leverage and a very strong position due to their status and size. It sure sucks. But it's not cencorship.
What you can see much more these days with media companies is manipulation. And that should be a much bigger concern to us. Because it is not only more difficult to recognize it's also much harder to combat by regulations.
Also the whole "Dude just make your own site, internet provider, bank, etc." isn't a good argument because their are many examples of people doing this and having their web hosts shut them down, banks decline to work with them, and master card blacklisting them.
Which isn't what I said. Please read it again, carefully! The point was to show what actuall cencorship looks like. For example a Gestapo run by the government busting your door open and throwing you in a camp for opening a news paper that criticises the authorities. That's cencorship.
Your content being flagged on youtube or demonetised because it violates their user terms or because someone else found it offensive? Is not cencorship. It might still be a big problem though. But that is a different discussion. You will find many people in the government actually agreeing with your position that it is a problem. But how to fix it isn't that easy answered because at the end of the day those companies do have rights. What ever if we like it or not.
But as long as this issue isn't solved there are ways in how you can work around some issues. For example if you're a content creator try to diversify. Don't just show your stuff on youtube. There are alternatives out there.
I know it's not ideal but that's all you can do at the moment. Oh and of course voice your opinion about it. The more people show their concerns and dislike the larger will the pressure be on those companies to change something.
