Who will win the UEFA Euro Championship 2008?

The matches put aside, UEFA should conduct an investigation to find out whose idea it was to play that retarded "Samba" song every time someone scores, and banish him to Antartica after a parody-trial.

Well Germany won over Austria, so Germany will be the next opponent of Portugal.
So, next Thursday I'll be waiting for a great and close game, but a game that Portugal can win!
At least that's what I want :D

our defense sucked baaad today. portugal will be very hard. what i really liked, were the short and fast passes, but... only 1 good defender wont be enough against the portugese.

ESPN put it well: "Germany staggers through"

You ain't winning from nobody playing like that.

Defense is far from the only problem, too. It's like miracle hour in Germany when one of your strikers is reached, and when they are - they miss.

That, or the game Croatia played against the Germans was just a lucky fluke.

If they can play the opening game horribly, they can also play the quarter final horribly. Yeah, Croatia is the favourite, but Turkey isn't without a shot.

Nobody is ever without a shot, don't be asinine.

That said, did Cro-Ger look like a lucky fluke? Looked more like Germany biting dirt and trying to hand the game to Croatia, and Croatia accepting. Mayhap this next match will be the same.

Assman again said:
Most people would say that that's exactly what the Dutch team is missing, exactly. In fact, that's what I've heard a lot before this tournament.

What, fouls? Heck no. People say the Dutch miss that certain sense of bloodthirstiness. But that's not the same thing as fouls. The best, most bloodthirsty defenders usually get by without any fouls, because they're just that good. Like Mertesacker.

'cor, fouls are a part of that, but that's more a sense of knowing when to make a foul, to tip a psychological balance or whatever. De Zeeuw knows that, I think, no one else does in our team, 's true.

<hr>

Wonder what san Marco is going to do v Romania. Obviously de Jong and Ooijer are right out, best to avoid risk for those two key players. It'd make sense to put Heitinga in the D, move van Bronckhorst up a line and put de Cler on left wingback.

Other than that...give van Persie a full match to enable him to get some more game fitness? Let Kuijt rest his weary little legs?

In any case, really going for the win is still an imperative. Don't want to lose no tournament form.

very bouncy and uplifting news. giev moer!
That was even on the Portuguese TV news :D

About the Thursday match, we never know, like we say in Portugal: "The ball is round and both teams have 11 players...", until the last whistle anything can happen!

But I really hope that Portugal can play another 3 games, that meaning that we will leave Germany behind 8-)

Yeah what to say about (our team) germany?
No good defence, no good passes, no good attacks. At least i didn't see any of this in the last two games.. so either they thought of playing dump and trusted in still getting through this stage, or there's something terribly wrong.
And i believe it's the second, so i would bet in Portugal.

For today i hope Romania will beat the Netherlands, just that France and Italy are out (i still somewhat dislike Italy and would somewhat prefer Romania about France) ;)
But aside this i think the Netherlands will win this tournament.

I don't think Turkey will do that that easily, really.
I think the fact that Croatia is being so highly estimated is largely due to Germany's poor performance.

More like people willing to commit a foul and play rough. I'd say Heitinga has that quality, too, and Boulahrouz. De Jong can be a mean fucker, too I think.

De Zeeuw is more tactical about it, sure, but he's not that good at committing fouls either.

Not that committing fouls should be the goal of any team, by the way.

He's probably going to rest almost everyone, and give a lot of the benched players their shot. Both for morale and fitness reasons, I suppose. De Telegraaf (yuck) reported that only Van der Sar and Engelaar would start, giving this line-up:
Van der Sar: Melchiot, Heitinga, Bouma, De Cler: De Zeeuw, Engelaar: Van Persie, Afellay, Robben: Huntelaar

Of course, it's De Telegraaf and you never know how reliably that paper is.

EDIT: Haha. According to the BBC if Romania wins and Italy and France draw, then Italy and France would have to shoot penalties to determine who gets third place.
I'd almost cheer on Romania to see that.

I don't think so.

Did you see them against Poland? Not that Poland is a very good team, but even Croatia's B-team looked pretty good out there.

Better than Germany, in any case.

Van der Sar: Melchiot, Heitinga, Bouma, De Cler: De Zeeuw, Engelaar: Van Persie, Afellay, Robben: Huntelaar

Of course, it's De Telegraaf and you never know how reliably that paper is.

Pure speculation, van Basten never spreads word of who gets to play, not even to players, until game day.

AD had this:
Van der Sar - van Bronckhorst, Heitinga, Mathijssen, Boulahrouz - van der Vaart, de Zeeuw - Robben, Sneijder, van Persie/Kuijt - van Nistelrooy

Which I think is a lot more likely. Van Basten has absolutely no reason to take out any starters except de Jong and Ooijer.

...Why? Who cares who gets third place?

Seriously, who on earth is that sigged fan-pussy, Brother Tulip?

A Latvian who has lived in Holland for these past 10 years. Those wings were her boyfriend's idea, and yes, since then she's being photographed everywhere.

And AD did a special report on her.

[half time]

oh god this is annoying

i'm starting to think that Holland will have to score an own goal so that we should win ...

i'm so pissed at the Romanian team.

Is every Lativan girl so pretty and chesty? If so, I'm moving to Latvia ASAP.

I really wonder why the best right back of the year in PL this last year Sagna, Flamini, Frey, Mexes etc... are not in the squad while the likes Govou, Sagnol, Coupet (All 3 has been injured a long time this year) are. They are all performing so rubbish. What a joke it was to play Abidal at CB which backfired badly. Look at the balls Toni is getting behind French defence, with proper finishing it could have been 3,4-0 by now.
France can't go through for nuts. Not in the same group with Italy or even The Netherlands (powered by the winged ex-soviet femme fatale).

Ehm, yeah, my point: better than Germany in very poor form.

Turns out De Telegraaf was right 'cept for Melchiot/Boulahrouz and Stekelenburg/Sar.

And yer, he had one very good reason to take out players that played two full matches: give them some rest.

Would've been funny to see two teams shoot penalties about something they don't care about.
Of course, UEFA revealed that this wouldn't happen since the penalty shooting tie break only happens when it's to continue beyond the group.

Anyway, pretty solid game, this was. 2-0 was about what was deserved, play was pretty decent although it wasn't as good as it was the past two matches. Just a few too many passes back and missed openings on the wings. But still, decent match by what was essentially a reserve squad while Romania looked pretty weak and, especially in the second half, couldn't really get much going.

Someone should shoot that Dutch commentator, though. Could he stop going on about how incredibly briliant that failed pass was and get back to the bloody game for once? Yeesh.

As for Italy, well, deserved win. Everything that could go wrong for the French did go wrong, but they looked like absolute rubbish out there. Italy, though, looked pretty powerless too, having to score from a penalty and a deflected free kick that really could only be called an own goal.

That was Evert ten Napel, wasn't it? He's supposed to be our best commentator.

Anyway, weak game from some of our "subs". Robben was in bad form, Huntelaar was invisible but y'know...did what he had to do.

Good game from Afellay, but he's not exactly going to replace anyone. Stellar game from Heitinga. I think van Basten is going to have to think about Ooijer-Heitinga in the backfield, odd as that may sound.

Engelaar again looked weak. 'member how I mentioned he looks slow? He lost the ball because of slow reaction speed a few times, and notice that biggest chance in the first half Romania got? It was because Engelaar actually slowed down when racing the Romanian to the ball. That guy needs to go.

All Slavs tend to be pretty and chesty (she looks like she has Russian blood).

All Slavs also tend to look like this once they turn 40.
