We need a Sci-Fi Space RPG! Fantasy is saturated.

Game companies naturally start pre-production on new games soon after the release of a new title, that way when everyone's tired of the old one they have something new to release.

Why OP, not satisfied with the robotic cameltoes of the Mass Effect franchise? Or the rich and totally not binary dialogue wheel?

Well they could still make a new series that uses the same gameplay mechanics, like BloodBorne.

Yeah, of course. But from what I've read/heard, they want to move away from these types of games for now. Miyazaki himself said he was worried gamers would grow fatigued, and that he would like to explore other ideas.

Either way, a sci fi game from FromSoftware sounds like an excellent concept. Their world-building is what makes the games so great, and a sci fi setting from them could be very interesting.

A Dune rpg is sorely needed, but due to current middle eastern events I can understand why that's a no go. I mean playing as a faction which advocates a galaxy wide crusade based messianic views of a desert peoples religion oh and suicide commandos to boot. All that aside if handled by a mature and adult company say Obsidian it could be something great. Bi la kaifa.

Currently Im working on a cyberpunk RPG. But probably will take 2 years or more to be ready.

I'd love an RPG set in medieval Japan. It's got samurai, ronin, priests, ninjas, castles, peasants, bandits, emperors, princesses and a fuck-ton of fantasy and weird-ass legends.

An RPG set in the Discworld would also be really cool.

You should take a look at Jade Empire then. It isn't Japan, but you won't find a lot of or any RPGs with a medieval asian setting made by western studios.

Not that I am proposing more fantasy RPGs as a I am a sci fi fan myself, but there are so many cultural and mythology rich cultures around the world that would reserve themselves so well for a RPG background.

The various Asian ones, or the ones in the Middle East before the spreading of Islam, or Africa and South America.
How much of East European or Russian mythology has actually been touched by RPG designers? (games such as the Witcher probably did use some of this)

Not only would this be something new and imaginative for players that are bored with Tolkien esque fantasy, but it would also might increase interest in cultures from around the world.

I think a Japanese feudal-meets-fantasy setting would work well for a CRPG. I know it has already inspired several source books and RPG campaigns.

There are actually quite a number of visual novels set in that sort of period that have RPG or base building or RTS or similar elements to them, though being VNs it does also mean a bulk of it will be reading. In Japanese. Which I admit could be a barrier to entry lol
