What are people's thoughts on how the Brotherhood is depicted in 3 and 4?

Nope, the Institute took over the East totally after defeating the BoS in Fallout 4. Now the BoS are dead again. Until they aren't dead.

Bah, the canon ending is everyone lives but the Institute! You know, despite the countless scientific and amazing advancements they could have brought

Didn't the Institute not want for the synths to have free will and yet gave them the capacity for free will? I recall something like that and if it's true, the Institute is retarded.

Doubtful.

If NCR was fighting a full-scale war with BoS at that time, there would most likely be no Mojave Campaign. California is, well, home, higher priority assets are endangered, brahmin barons and other major economy movers wouldn't stand for war on their doorstep, and public opinion would ruin the regime which decided to divert their resources to the war with Legion instead of dealing with a much more immediate threat.

No, the war is over. NCR won. They pillaged BoS bunkers, took their power armors and re-purposed them for their own units, took their tech, took their weapons, destroyed everything that could not be salvaged.
There are probably stragglers here and there, remnants still engaging in an occasional skirmish or guerrilla action, but nothing of great importance or dangerous enough that NCR would bother with a major military operation. Perhaps, as someone pointed out, there are couple of active bunkers in lock down that NCR keeps in check, but doesn't take immediate action because they are afraid of the dangers of the nuke self-destruction. There might be a bunker here or there that is still hidden, where BoS is relatively safe, but it's nothing that could endanger the Bear, not in short term and most likely not in long term either.

BoS is old, spent, decayed and stagnant. They are without fresh blood, fresh resources, surrounded and heavily outnumbered by the best equipped military force on the West of US, maybe even the whole US. Everything is working against them, their way of life, philosophy and religion more than anything. Sure, NCR is not at their best shape at the moment, but the Brotherhood... it's taking its last breaths. Delaying the inevitable.

Brotherhood is gone.

If the franchise wasn't in the state it was, I would argue some points. But seeing as New Vegas is the last of the West Coast we will ever see, I'll agree with you.

Actually, not apparently the case.

I suspect the Mojave Peace Treaty was a basis for a larger one because the Lost Hills elders are active in helping Arthur Maxson become his best dictator self.

They're alive and kicking again and apparently supported his efforts to rebuild the BOS on the East Coast.

As a certain someone around here likes to do...

We will all boo you out of this fucking thread.

You just reminded me of the master plan the INSTITUTE had. The brains at BIG MT had better thoughts in their brain sacks.

OWB Cut Ending: "In the decades following the Battle of Hoover Dam, the Big Empty remained a desolate stretch of wasteland, where few travelers dared venture.

In time, however, a strange blue field began to grow, slowly spreading across the Big Empty.

Lightning-blue fields of force danced on the horizon, like electrical storms.

People whispered of "floating spheres," flickering like a rainbow of torches in the desert like Old World wisps.

Then communities began to vanish.

Goodsprings was crushed beneath bizarre hexcrete blocks that stacked to the sky. The inhabitants of Primm winked out, flesh-fried into x-ray silhouettes, their arms raised in surrender.

A satellite fell on Jacobstown, beaming a kaleidoscope of bright blue equations into the deranged Nightkin minds, driving some berserk, paralyzing others.

Black Mountain Radio began broadcasting a strange staccato static as hordes of giant man-eating battle Brahmin began to swarm from its peak.

Camp Searchlight became a garden of giant carnivorous plants, and the Colorado river... "shrugged" one day, drowning several communities as its contours adjusted themselves.

The Gomorrah became home to a particularly virulent vegetation-based STD that grew like a fungus within victim's genitalia until their bodies burst open like pods.

The Legion East were systematically brain-scrubbed and rebuilt so that all the inhabitants believed they were in ancient Rome... on the moon.

...And the human cattle of NCR were re-educated into believing they existed in perpetuity in a nation-wide version of someplace called "Tranquility Lane."

In the end, no one was sure who had cracked the Dome of the Big Empty, although it was clear someone had been playing with forces they did not understand.

Throughout all this, the Think Tank was industrious, confident these experiments were all for the best, the results of the data they obtained - incredible.

They marveled that all of this had been waiting for them to come along and experiment since the war.

Humanity certainly was persistent, no matter what experiments, nuclear holocaust or otherwise, it inflicted on itself."

I feel like there was no plan.

But it's weird because I actually think they didn't need a big plan to sell the mediocore one they had because it's Boring But Practical.

"We're going to build a self-sustaining civilization underground where it's safe and free from radiation with inexhaustable nuclear power."

Answer:

1. Your solution is....building new Vaults?
2. Sarcastic
3. YOU'RE INSANE
4. Building new vaults is your solution?

A fellow troper. It doesn't count if you wrote the Fallout 4 entry for their website.

^This was all that was needed. Again no need to go through every irrelevant detail.

No they didn't. They saw BoS and applied their skin to their STOCK TEMPLATE FACTIONS.
No, sorry, that is not true. Fallout 3 BOS is a well developed and logical faction. They actually make a lot of sense and are well explained in game. Blind bethesda hate is not an excuse to bash them because fallout 3 is a excellent and lore friednly game. I still cant understand why thefe re people who still go out of their way to whine after 10 years.

Agreed; which is why the various reasons and points raised in this thread on why the Brotherhood's depiction was a poor one are far better reasons to bash Bethesda's way of depicting the Brotherhood.

people who still go out of their way to whine after 10 years.
As opposed to people whining and moaning about people who express their opinions over an established faction that was re-written and brought over to a region miles away from their point of origin in order to use their name as a form of brand recognition rather than to create a new faction that is functionally similar but would not run over the established faction?

These points are stupid. Replay fallout 3 sometimes it has great writing and reasons

The literally retarded, lobotomized, crazy, decomposing brains in fishbowls were more rational and driven than the main villain faction of FO4. You know, the mark of great writing.

I think you are getting trolled, CerberusGate.
Yeah, as soon i read this i knew it was trolling. No one in their right mind would call Fallout 3 "lore friendly" when it breaks so much lore. Or that person hasn't actually played Fallout 1 and 2.
Well duh... I'm surprised the troll would even bother to reply to me.

I thought it was one of those low-effort trolls that logs in once to say their piece and runs off. But since it bothered to reply...

These points are stupid.
'Great' reply. Anything else? No?

Then let me redirect you to every other post in this thread that have directly refutes your post completely (I can't be bothered to quote each so have fun going through it all).

Plus, do enlighten us on how the BOS in 3 is logical and well-developed. I'm sure you can change all of our minds in an instant if you try to explain rather than sticking to cheap blanket statements.

If you argue with a low effort troll, you are the one who is losing.
True. I'll probably just ignore it like any other troll on this site even if it does reply.

As for the original thread topic, I wouldn't know what to add that hasn't already been. Plus my sentiments are already said.

Okay, listen here dude Just because somebody doesn't think like you doesnt mean that person is trolling I played fallout 1,2,tactics,3,4 and new vegas. While you may think I am a moron for not thinking like you, I am serious. Name me one thing fallout 3 did wrong about the lore. Vault 87 is explained, BOS is explained, like literaly everything. Maybe you can complain about the caps, drugs and running ghouls but those are all gameplay elements that also appear in new vegas and are not meant to be taken very seriously. Fallout 3 is a great game that Bethesda actually cared about, unlike their other games. It is weird how none of you can see that. Don't get triggered, because honestly its sad that grown men can get so mad becausea game franchise changed. It is sad to getmadabout things like that.
