What was the Funniest Argument You've had with a Bethesda Apologist?

I know, part of it was that for some reason I keep thinking being a vampire is worth it for all the stat bonuses but then I lose my patience and my save game is deleted.

Do what you gotta. Just for the love of all that’s holy don’t come back and say it’s a masterpiece. People will flip. Including me.

It’s the beginning of Beth’s downhill slide, to be blunt. It’s not a true RPG, rather the beginning of the casualization (is that a word?) of the genre. To put it simply.

Jesus CHRIIIIST.

I can forgive him for not playing F2, I GUESS, but then don’t fucking talk about it. Goddamn I’m not sure I have the mental fortitude to jump into that.

Not wrong though? Change is not always bad and neither is it even that far removed. The og Fallouts are not Shakespeare my dudes. Also, which games have inspired more mods and fostered those communities?
I disagree with the view that Fallout has to inherently be an Isometric CRPG. While yes, the OG games are masterpieces IMO, I certainly don't think that changing the genre and form was a bad thing either.

My view on what makes Fallout, Fallout, is more on theming and exploring civilization, culture, and economy in a post-nuclear society. Along with creating a world where players can interact and shape said world. (Arguably you could easily make an Immersive Sim Fallout, and I think that would be pretty badass).

Fallout New Vegas easily slips into this category, Fallout 3 somewhat succeeds, Fallout 4 tried but failed, and Fallout 76 was a disastrous mess that I will not delve into.

It's all up to interpretation and it's an interesting debate to see what Fallout means to different people.

Fallout to me means thought provoking storylines on the nature of man and government post apocalypse, and various themes of how humanity adapts, changes, or appeals to its better angels. 1 and 2, while very much typical “hero stories”, also left leeway for severe Machiavellian tendencies on the part of the player without it breaking the game. The Beth Fallouts don’t even get that right, with the Lone Wanderer being constantly berated if he’s bad rather than actually feared, and the Sole Survivor being another “blank slate” but one that isn’t even done well enough to have any actions, good or bad, have gravity.
