What's Your Favorite Drink?

Whisky! Laphroaig's the choice of brand for me.
It's mighty fine, and the scotch that got me really interested in whisky in the first place, but it doesn't beat Lagavulin, IMO...

Yeah, I've drank Lagavulin few times and I really have to say I like its taste a lot. One of my favourites.

Laphroaig was to me the whisky that made me realize how good whisky can be. So I think it's going to be my favourite for quite a time.

God, not another drinking thread.

Oh, look, here comes Sander with one of his endless beer posts...

If thats case I didn’t want to bring up redundant topics; I am fairly new to the NMA forms. Fallout and drinking are one of the few things I enjoy.

Jack an coke straight or the British army special, Vodka, whisky, gin, mixer of your choice served in a dirty pint glass.

I love soda of all kinds. Particularly clear soda's and root beer. Mug use to be my favorite until they changed the formula...now it tastes totally different. I can't decide now whether A&W or Barqs is better.

That said I strongly prefer plain old Coca-Cola or 7-Up.

One thing that they have in my current area (Northeast Pennsylvania) that I've never heard of until I moved here was Birch Beer. Its got a special flavor thats really good...can't describe it. It seems that each area has some distinct regional flavor that not only is made by only local companies, but only sold there. I remember Cactus Cooler in California...they don't have that here.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Hey alec, good to see you back in the mix! Not to push a potentially sensitive issue or anything, but are you serious about 'water' - you're off the sauce?

I'd wish. I still like whisky (and vodka), but I prefer water. Seriously. And soya milk is really good, especially if you are allergic to real milk (and I am).
I've totally given up beer, though. Beer is crap. Kind of ironic when you live in Belgium, I guess.

Water and coffee normally.

Alcoholic beverages: proper pilsners, good trappist beers (especially the St. Bernardus Abt 12) and my all-time favourite: the Geuze Boon Mariage Parfait. The most sour and most perfect beer I've ever tasted.

I envy the Middle European people, because you just have so much better beers than we. The Finnish beer is just the same piss with different names and logos on the bottle.

Of course, there are smaller breweries that make different kinds of beer and I can always buy imported goods.

Blasphemy! The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is NOT a trappist, it's an abbey beer. The only trappists in the world are the Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Westvleteren, Achel (my hometown near the Dutch border, close to Eindhoven by the way) and the Dutch Latrappe.

The Bernardus is a superior abbey beer though, when you compare it with the shit that's in that category, like the overly popular Leffe or Grimbergen...

In taste, it's as close as you can get to the Westvleteren, though.

Koningshoeve (La Trappe) is also close to the Belgian border and Eindhoven. I've been to both the Achelse Kluis and La Trappe, though.
Also somewhat close is the interesting 'castle' beer Ter Dolen in Houthalen-Helchteren.

That's mainly because one of the Westvleteren abts started brewing for St. Bernardus, taking a third of the recipe for Westvleteren (or so the rumour goes).

It's a shame that I still haven't had the opportunity to drink a Westy 12, they're hard to come by these days due to the hype and all... So far, my n°1 trappist is still the Rochefort 10. I'm sincerely trying to be chauvinistic by liking the Achel trappist, but it just doesn't do anything for me, it falls flat when compared to other trappists and abbey beers such as the Bernardus.

Can you recommend the La Trappe? Next time I'm in Eindhoven or Valkenswaard I might try it out.

I've heard that rumour before indeed. Both breweries are very close in proximity and the bernardus used to be called the "St. Sixtus", which is, I believe, also the name of the monastery where the monks of Westvleteren still live. It would be weird though for those monks, who've taken a vow of poverty and as a result can only brew to the extent that they don't make a profite, to give away their recipes to a brewery that is trying to make one. But I guess that's what they call a "divine" loophole.

La Trappe's pretty good, the white is excellent for a white beer. I dislike the double, though. The Triple and Quadruple are both pretty good.

Also, next time you're in Eindhoven, visit the bierprofessor. Great, but small, bar with a lot of different specialty beers, and a good host.
If you like Lambic beers (or any sour beers), it's also a great place to try some of the Geuzes. It's the host's favourite beer.

Well, they're allowed to donate the majority profits to a good cause as well. Westvleteren doesn't do that at all, though, which is why they brew so little.

Nice list, especially when it comes to the Geuzes, but also quite expensive (20-50% more expensive).

You seem to know quite a lot about beer (more than me I dare to say after just reading 3 of your posts regarding the matter. Quite embarrassing for a Belgian :) ). I don't know whether anyone else on these forums is a beer fan, but for a possible future comparison, I'll quickly write down my top 10 all time favourite beers from all categories.

1) Rochefort 10
2) Chimay Triple
3) Boerinneken
4) Braven Apostel
5) Chimay bleu 9°
6) Delirium Tremens
7) Duvel (a classic)
8 ) St. Bernardus Abt 12
9) Gouden Carolus
10) La Chouffe

You can always look these beers up on www.ratebeer.com

Oh, I will definetely start drinking some more Geuze, uptil now my experience with them has been limited to the popular Belle Vue variants, but I've heard many good things of the boon Geuzes too, especially, like you confirmed, the Marriage Parfait.

Re: Drink of Choice?

My, is Hot Chocolate and cup of Coffee mixed.

The reason for this is obvious, the bear isn't made to be tasted, is ment to be consumed. Ja lapin kulta on aina poronkusta parempaa.

I haven't actually tasted bear ever. I've heard about place that serves good bear burgers, though ;)

If there weren't any real legal alcohol going around in Finland, the Finns would drink anything to get drunk, I'm afraid. Like good old Mennen aftershave and so on.

I'm going to start off by explaining that I don't handle alcohol very well, so my quantities are usually what people would consider the first 3 drinks.

Beers: although Panamanian beer is considered pretty good for a local beer, I don't drink any of it. Quilmes from Argentina is a favorite, together with the Greek Mythos.

On the other drinks, whiskey is generally too strong for me although Jack Daniels is a common ingredient of my cooking. Sangria, wine with fruit on it, is good but only on certain restaurants and taverns, very sweet and it hits you like a sledgehammer as it is very sweet but it has a strong alcoholic content. Cider is pretty good but only if it's sweet.

For me drinks have to please my palate. I have never been drunk so becoming inebriated is not an appealing factor in any drink.
