I agree with a lot of what he is saying. But there is some good news. Playing Deus Ex:HR for example, which I think had pretty good/awesome level design and shooter mechanics for what I see as a modern game. So it can happen. There is hope!

dont take this as offense, but I have a very hard time to believe that someone "likes" Deus Ex 2.
Anyway, yeah I would say that Deus Ex HR has pretty decent level design. I liked pretty much all of the locations. Particularly Heng Sha and that Ocean-Platform-Hole or what ever the last level is called.

I agree that last level of HR is great but.. zombie apocalypese? seriously?
well.. it's not actually zombie but.. feel like it's genre changed into zombie apocalypse game for me.
it's waste of good level design.
but except for final stage, I feel like stages are not connected non-linearly.
lt feels like linearly ordered rooms are conected with mutiple linear way.
well.. memories are unrealiable sometimes so maybe I'm remeber wrong.
but I'm sure that I didn't feel much fun from this game and I haven't miss HR while I miss both Deus ex 1 and 2 a lot.
and for Deus ex 2, I really like level design of MAKO.
I really like idea of choices from previous map affects this maps start point
it's quest and subquests are interesting too.
sub quests from two coffee frachises are actually satire of game plot!
and it's choice and concequence is great.
and it has far much better story than De 1.
while I enjoyed De1, I never thought it's story was good.
but De2's story? it's interesting, complex and tricky.
*shrugs* cant remember the story from DE2 anymore. I think the game would have been much better if the PC was the lead platform, and not the console, because Deus Ex 2 was in the end really nothing more then a very bad console port, particularly a lot of the gameplay, like the idea to give all of the weapons the same amunition and the changes to the augmentation system. But yeah, that was years ago. Sorry to hear that you dont like Deus Ex 3, but well the rest of the world at least sees it as a very big success at least
Well, in the end, I don't have to use any weapon but dragon tooth at De1 and I don't even need weapon at HR because takedown is OP.
so, shooting doesn't matter for me much.
I didn't have much problem with console port with GOG version.
beside, De1's shooting and controling wasn't that good.
and does that matter for playing it now? I don't think so.
I played it 1 yeas ago and I'm satisfied with it.
beside, almost everything in Deus ex 1 was failed but level design.
removing most of failure and enhancing RP isn't that bad choice I think.
HR is success? maybe so.
but its publisher is Squre Enix.
the publisher of Thief 2014
I see it all the time from various English-second-language individuals from Europe, practically regardless of which country they're from or what their native tongue is. Hell, in a documentary I watched, a Singaporian did that, too, so it's not even a mistake restricted to caucasian languages! I dunno, I guess there's something about "doesn't" that's almost universally unique to English that makes it appropriate in other languages in place of "wasn't" or "aren't" except in English? XD
- The Fallout Series - Sure there are games called Fallout post-2001, but i mean actual Fallout games, not step in the right/wrong direction.
- The Jagged Alliance Series - Not a reboot, not the unity engine, the follow-up by Sir-Tech or being faithfull to their work.
- The Blood Series - Not sure if we could count Blood II since i wasn't able to finish it. (and i tried many times)
- The Witcher Series - If it stayed faithfull to the first one.
- The Myth Series - Same as Blood, i dunno if i can count Myth 3 since it crashes on start. But i miss so much that story/gameplay/engine...
- The Metal Slug Series - By continuing improving it after MS3, not going backward.
- The Half-Life Series - My favourite FPS during a full decade.
- Arcanum - I am still very early into the game, but i am amazed in how much the first few dialogs change according your stats. You could be the totally ultimate morons or the parangon of beauty and the NPC notice it. How of the rare games that really emphasis the "R" in "RPG".
hell yeah, I would LOVE (!) a new Blood game. All those sweet child hood memories of kicking zombie heads around and electrifying shark-mutants. Though I think Blood 2 had the better music.
I would also not mind a proper Duke Nukem Game, as long it doesnt take another 15 years to make.
I tought Naossano said Metal Slug wit ha typo, but he was referring to MGS.
In any case, we need more Metal Slug games, and also more games with such an excellent Sprite work as those games had, not this dumb "retro" fad that implies that old games had shitty art assets just because they were 2D.

well I would be already happy with someone making a remake of Blood with new graphic. Albeit ... I have to admit any new remake would probably loose the charm of the old visuals and engine.

It probably would... But the remake of Shadow Warrior was quite nice and worked well, I think.
Reminds me, again, that I really want more Kingpin: Life of Crime. Sequel, proper remake, spin-offs... I just like that setting
Yeah, I saw some videos, it really looks funn and in the spirit of the original game. I am glad that some of those old games seem to get a new renaissance, I guess that is one of the good things about Steam, GoG and such. The more access players have to such old titles the more people might realize what they are missing when playing some modern games.
