Have you tried the installer tool from the website? It should work independently of the readiness status in your reservation. Worked for me:

Does this tool work for strict update? I.e., installed apps remain installed and such?
I recall 8.1 update worked flawlessly in this regard, but it was through Windows Update, I don't know if installing from media allows config to remain intact.

Yes, it does. It gives you all the options as normal - clean install, keep everything, etc. I used it and all my files and settings were left intact.

It's not an iso, it's an installation program. Don't download it to a flash drive, just download it to your PC and run the executable.

Either the link is wrong (which coming from you, I certainly doubt it) or it redirects me to download the iso when I open the link from Linux.

Update: I am LOVING Windows 10! I have a new nickname for it - Windows Gamer. For the longest time, I couldn't install BG 2 Shadows of Amn on Windows 7, because the installer was incompatible with Win 7. (Yes, I tried legacy compatibility mode to no avail.)
Problem solved by Win 10. I now have BG 1 & BG 2 installed with all the expansions, WeiDu, G3 widescreen mods you name it! I did have to reinstall Temple of Elemental Evil & Circle of 8 mod pack. For some reason I can't get anti-aliasing to work. Hell, a minor issue not worth mentioning when running at 1440 x 900 anyways. I even got an unpolished turd like Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor to work flawlessly on it.
Sorry to wax poetic on ye but I'm really jazzed here. If you're a guy like me with lots of old games you haven't been able to play in a while, give Windows 10 a test drive and tell me what you think!
