X-Com being made into an FPS (Again?)

On a related note a new MMO called UFO Online: Fight For Earth was announced at E3.

http://ufo-online.gamigo.com/

Not much to go on yet other than it looks more X-Com than the new X-Com. Well it actually looks more like UFO Aftershock but still.
Shame the trailer didn't start of with "In a world where no one wears shirts..."

Edit: Also the comments saying it's crap 'cause it nicked the Starcraft scream... :V .

It's a bit ridiculous comparing Jagged Alliance real-time with Commandos and X-Com.

You can hardly call that mainstream pandering, it was just really mean of them to call it a remake.

Heh, the future of gaming my friends.

Man, Escapist is all up in their shit. I didn't know they had it left in em.

I like how it's considered that much more unambiguous for X-Com to XCOM compared to Fallout to Fallout 3. Part of that is what I talked about last page, but a big chunk of it is just convenient genre labels.

Heh, the future of gaming my friends.

I read today the US Army is planning to deploy an operational destructive laser weapon (a laser beam, actually) to be used on the battlefield.
Someone can find one for me, so I can erase this motherfucker and do Earth a favor, please?

Saying that Ray Charles would sound like Kenny West if still alive "because he need to sell music" stunned me a whole minute.
Seriouslly, WTF?

This comparison is the reason for raping X-Com and saying that TB games won't sell?
And the whole "happy middle ground" bores me.

Ok, rant ended.

Don't you fidn it funny that he is giving such a bullshit, ignorant dumbass explanation for the change/destruction sayign "it's not contemporary" while his game uses a 50's setting?

You know the "I am happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but blah blah" meme? it's that guy.

Wow, I didn't know there was a fourth/fifth Commando. I also didn't know it sucked that hard oO
Anyway, I don't care about a FPS XCOM. I have UFO: Alien Invasion, that's enough for me :D

If Mozart would be alive today and if he would create music, it would be like Justin Biber. :smug:

^ Well, he WAS a young popular musician, and probably all the rage among pre-teen girls of his time... So your analogy actually makes a bit of sense, in a scary way.

Shitty music, funny lyrics. :)

On topic; I really do wish they'd let the Jagged Alliance and XCOM-games die with some dignity, I have a hard time imagining that these games will do anything but flop.

2K saying that Turn-Based is'nt contemporary is a far cry from what they were saying when they released frickin' Civilization 5 though. I wonder if Civ 6 will be played out in a style similar to the Fable games then...

Ah dammit, you're ahead of me, I just found out.

Already had a great title for the thread "This just came in; 2K games is full of crap"

Honestly, if its about making fucking money by appealing to the larger action obsessed mainstream audience, be truthful about that and don't make up stupid excuses in order to sound more intelligent than you truly are Mr Hartmann.

Also, before it became way to commercial I thought music artists and composers were into music as they want to give expression to their thoughts and feelings.

I still think that this is what drives a real artist.

Andy Warhol also proved that you can bottle shit in tin cans and they will sell well for 15 minutes, making lots of money.

You know what I don't get?

It's not like X-com had a set universe or good setting behind it to justify it expanding to other areas. I mean if they made a 4x game in the Fallout universe (not saying they should) it could make sense given that fallout's setting has room for that kind of stuff. X-com on the other hand was only good for it's gameplay. I mean who bought X-com for it's story or aesthetic? so making it an FPS is shooting it in the foot from the get go because you pissed off all the old fans. Hell I never played X-com And I see the stupidity of making it an FPS, are you telling me a multi-million dollar company can't?

It's just so dumb.

It's looks were quite a selling point actually, well to me anyway because it looked so cool.
Unlike the remake the aliens actually looked interesting and well designed.

*X-Com being made into an FPS* - has this donkey even been released yet...imagine how much money they are going to piss down the sink with this rubbish. No wonder gaming companies are going out of business left, right, and center.
