Well maybe he REALLY likes Bethesda games. How do we know? It just happens that he is following a different approach in making games with different priorities in design. Just how you can enjoy a painting done with water colours but you prefer to work with oil.

I always think that it's funny when someone says, look! This is one of the Fallout devs and even he likes Bethesdas Fallout! As like it would mean something big. Because the important part is, for me at least, he still continues to make games that are very different from what Bethesda is doing. And that probably for a reason.

I don't know, this might be projection going on, but he was just kind of talking in code. He mentioned all the things that "were never part of Fallout" very off handedly and focuses on keeping it neutral. Also we all know his personal philosophies with RPG design and C&C, so I doubt he likes FO3 that much.

Despite the huge number of people who fawn over Bethesda Game Studios and have been pulled toward their flawed interpretation of Fallout, there are still plenty of people who appreciate and understand the spirit of the series. So even if BGS is trying to satiate the former group, and Fallout 4 is the shallow sandbox game like Skyrim, there's still the possibility of an Obsidian Fallout game that'll satisfy the latter. At least there would be quest mods, while not officially canon of course, that would prove a great Fallout experience.

Lel, Obsidian will never make another Fallout for Bethesda because the Fallout 3 fans didn't like New Vegas so much. Probably because there was no perk every level and you couldn't max out all your SPECIALS. And that skill system was horrible amIrite? So glad they got rid of it in Fallout 4....

I think you forget that tim cain said he liked the Bethesda fallouts 3 "seeing a fallout 3"
He has stated that FEV was supposed to be localized on the west coast and that he would have done something different.
he says new vegas captured the world and lore of fallout...
he also hates the stupid no c&c and ending.

Leonard Boyarsky has expressed his hate for Bethesda/Fallout 3 many times on facebook.

josh sawyer expressed.. the need story c&c, his history in Pen & Paper in a cRPG
also noting how he/obsidian "made the game in 18 months kinda crazy if you think about it"
now if you read into what he means(the hidden message)..
josh is saying they are experts at what they do and Bethesda taking all these years to make a shitty fallout 4 is a joke.
he's saying LOL modders make Bethesda games tolerable...
Like Walpknut wrote.. he is basically cryptically saying Bethesda sucks

Let's NOT forget Josh also said Gamebryo and skyrim engine sucks..
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1303536-new-vegas-developer-comments-on-ps3-lag-issues/
Obsidian also only had that engine for a total of 18 months prior to F:NV being released, which is a relatively short time to understand all of the details of how the technology works.

It was a total DICK move by that interviewer to jump into a "Fallout discussion" on a POE promotion.

Hmm... on a different note I'm going through some old RPG classics. I already plan to get Baldur's Gate 1, Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape Torment. Any other suggestions for one of the great almost forgotten classics?

I thought he was talking in code when he was say "im excited to see what theyve done with actions and cosequences." Like, "come on guys, you can do it, you can make a world where your actions matter."

As for hating bethesda players, ive had the analogy lately where fallout 3 is kind of like the hacked celeb pics in the fappening. What happened to the fallout franchise is a disgrace, and while, yeah, you can like fallout 3, its a little like beating it to stolen pictures. You might not be directly culpable, but youre still tainted.

Arcanum is one. I'm playing Torment right now myself.

I really hope Tides of Numenera tops Torment in writing and quality.
Planescape Torment i think has like over 5,000 pages of script for the game..

Planescape Torment is the Masterpiece cRPG from Chris Avellone.
it's what you compare all other "crpg" games to story, c&c and world.
Instead of living you start as dead and not knowing who you are.
everything that Chris Avellone hates in cRPG games like ...dwarves, elves, halflings..
The game is a 180 on normal fantasy cRPG stuff.
it has lots and lots and lots of text to read.

"old RPG classics." BG1&2, IWD 1&2, Pool of radiance, TOEE, Arcanum
even Neverwinter nights 1&2 ..And still better than any BethesCrap game.
there are IWD, BG1, TOEE and Pool of Radiance Mods for Neverwinter Nights 2
Don't bother with those shitty "Enhanced Edition" games....
you can download patches, mods for all these games.

Diablo 1&2 are good but more like IWD1&2 hack and slash or action rpg when "action rpg" actually meant something.
divine divinity is like a diablo clone.
wizardry 8 is okay.

there is a new D&D game called sword coast legends...might be good..not sure yet.

I decided to screw Baldur's gate for now and just get Fallout New Vegas (yeah... I don't have it) and Planescape Torment. The latter is what interests me... A LOT>

It kinda does, heh. It really is not your typical fantasy RPG.

Rats are some of the strongest enemies you face.

Undead creatures will be some of the friendliest creatures you will meet in Planescape.

An evil Demon will be you're biggest help.

And good isn't always good.

And evil is a matter of perspective.

Yeah, I really have to love the game.

No... skip New Vegas! it's a very good game..But
play Baldur's Gate 2(NOT the Enhanced Garbage)and you will understand why it's one of the best cRPG ever made
You will realize how every Bethesda game is just lifeless dull shitty world..And it's Bioware's best game.

Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate 2 are Top cRPG
Arcanum is like a steampunk/magic version of Fallout.
play..Temple of elemental evil if you're not a pussy and slightly masochistic.

I find it funny how Divinity 2 has better animations, story and world while using Gamebryo Engine with smaller budget then Bethesda Skyrim
and the game was not successful.

What changes the nature of a man? Chris Avellone says play with a high wisdom character for his answer

Double edged sword though... The player that loves Oblivion/Skyrim/FO3 risks poisoning their appreciation of them. Like someone whose idea of cheese is Kraft singles; who then has a taste of Blue Stilton.

Each is superb, and I agree (and have said the same) about Arcanum.

It's true; first thing I noticed about it.

I have to get Fallout New Vegas for my sibling...

So let me see... Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate 2 and Arcanum. That's for now. I played BG 1 for a while and it's kind of boring fetch-it and kill-it quests.

Baldurs Gate 2 is in almost every way an improvement over BG1. Though do your self a favour and get BG2 together with the expansion Throne of Bhaal. I wish they would had a chance to finish Baldurs Gate 3 because Throne of Bhaal is what's left of it. As far as I understand it, it was meant to be the third game in the series, but they had to cancel it - yeah we Fallout fans sure know that feeling don't we ... So, what was left of it was made in to an expansion. It really gives this whole Bhaal child some kind of closure. I can only recomend it.

Thanks! Hey at least they made it into an expansion.

I think that I have read it somewhere years ago that the idea of Throne of Bhaal was to be a direct Sequel to the story line of BG1 and BG2, where it seems that BG Baldur's Gate III: The Black Hound wasn't, at least that's what the Wiki page says about Black Hound - the story they describe really doesn't seem to have anything to do with previous BG games anyway, just saying. Or was it that stuff from Black Hound have been later used for Throne of Bhaal? I really don't remember all the details anymore. Like I said it has been years ago when I have read something about it. Anyway! Thx for the nice read.

I played all these games when they were released and don't remember much details about BG3 other than it was updated engine and stuff.
BG3 from my memory was different part of BG series.

Tob is a direct story that continues BG 1 & 2 it's part of the Bhaal story.
And it's a pretty big when games had "expansions"..i think it adds like 30-40hours.
Compare that most games,Bullshit DLC packs or even to Bethesda fallout 3 time to complete...is it even 30 hours to finish MQ in that shitty game??
I stopped at the stupidity of going indoors clearing out monsters for Daddy Neeson to do his water b.s. because he and his crew were pussies.

Some BG2 really good mods like the darkest day, unfinished business(cut content) shadows over soubar, ascension, com. and other i cant remember. I haven't played since 2004. Like I said I think the Enhanced Edition is well ..Shitty

Some Bethesda Hate!
I really HATE how Bethesda fans always use Bullshit excuse of be thankful because "Fallout was dead and needed reviving"
When BG2 was announced it was talked about everywhere...and BG3 was announced same thing
These games were sold at every store that sold games.
I don't understand the reasoning and logic behind the "it was dead and need reviving"
In what reality/dimension did this information come from??

I mean BG2 and Fallout Tactics and Neverwinter Nights were popular gamespy had rooms for them that always had people chatting in them and matching up games. and modders for those games were active as well. stayed alive for few years considering mod support back then is not what we have today.
