Bethesda's Lore Recons

Er.... So... I take it that the people in the Fallout universe never figured out how to take sperm samples and how to artificially inseminate?

Is specialized equipment needed for that? Because if it is the Vault might not have it.

The real issue with the 999 of one, 1 of the other Vaults is that they aren't good experiments since we pretty much know what would happen. The Vault with 1 woman would be empty within a generation, and the Vault with 1 man would return to normal after a single generation (you'd have to keep track of who your mom and grandmother are, but half of the children of those 999 women are going to be male.)

The point, I think, isn't what would happen in terms of breeding but how would such a lopsided population would react to the situation.

Apparently there are "female" Mr Handies, despite Handies being robotic orbs with eyes, and thus genderless.... They are called Mrs Nanies.

Do you find it strange? :eyebrow: "Mr" Handies are comfort goods, why does it surprise you that they have a female sounding version to appeal to a certain section of the market? How many sci-fi universes have gendered genderless artificial intelligences and robots?

I have no problem with Female handies. It's perfectly reasonable and logical to have two versions, depending on customer preferences. It would be odd if RobCo and General Atomics *didn't* produce different variants. In the same spirit I like the different versions of protectrons we have now. Makes sense.

But is there a demon Gutsy that sounds like satan?

That....is a rediculously cool idea. A Mr. Gutsy painted red, with flames, and flamers, with a "demon" voice, either balder gate style "I shall rip your soul through your shit hole...." or, a, "ah, Mr. McCormick, so very good that you could join me. Please, make yourself at home, would you like a crumpet? They are quite good. Now, if you would like to discuss page 612 on the user agreement, you will clearly see.......", might just have to make that mod, though I would need someones help with the textures

I just think is kind of a pointless retcon, specially since they made it so they could have a "female" robot companion that you can romance, for all those people who always wanted a romance story with their vaccum cleaners....

It's not really a lore retcon, it's an addition... Unless there is some pre-established General Atomics memo forbidding feelmale models so neck beards don't stick their dicks in them?

They also have french accents and apparently AI advanced enough to fall in love. There is another one in the Diamond City schoolhouse that is in love with the teacher there...

The Mr Handy robots have had AI advanced enough to actually hate tier jobs, as they often made snide remarks in both Fallout 3 and NV about having to work for humans, and that's no more complex of an emotion then love.

There is a mission, called kid in the fridge, you come across a kid who has been stuck in a fridge for 200 years. The kid asks you to take him home, when you get there his parents are also ghouls and the father said "Most people died of radiation, but we didn't. Must be something in our genes." So they changed how people become ghouls to a genetic thing BUT a companion called Handcock said that he knew the drugs he was taking would turn him into a ghoul but he did it anyway. So becoming a ghoul is genetic and there are drugs that turn you into a ghoul.

They didn't have AI. Those were simulated personalities. Like the Sink in Big MT says, there is no Intelligence in there.

Ghoulifciation has been a genetic thing for quite awhile.

The whole "genetic X factor" explanation was made up before even Fallout 3, to explain why some people died due to radiation expose, instead of turning into ghouls, after Tim Cain said ghouls and mutant animals were the result of radiation only, and not radiation + FEV as Chris Taylor had said previously. I know Avellone originally agreed with Taylor, but then switched to agreeing with Cain.

I was under the impression that it was radiation and whether you lived or died was just up to chance, no genetics involved, my mistake. What about turning into a ghoul through drugs?

Hancock says the drug was radiation based, its still the same thing, inflicting a massive dose of radiation on yourself to turn into a ghoul.
