Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 [shaking news and rumors!]

Man, austrialian government sucks more than germanys.

Funny.

Beat the campaign.

Had to kinda force myself through the last part, something absolutely retarded happens and you're forced to play as nearly the worst character in the game. Then after all this huge melodrama and build-up, the ending is not satisfying in the slightest and it ends on a fucking cliffhanger.

At least Spec-Ops is pretty fun after that steaming load.

so I played through the entire SP campaign today.

these games are feeling less like actual games and more like watching a long movie.

Haven't played through the entire campaign yet, but so far it feels much less 'realistic' than the previous installment. Everything is just so over the top and gimmicky it's insane.

I mean, really, undercover guy in terrorist network not just allows but participates in the murder of hundreds of people in an airfield? Russia *invades* the US? It feels more like a terrible Michael Bay movie, than the slightly more downscaled and 'realistic' storyline of the previous game.[/spoiler:33b95b0caf]

And last but not least, the infamous airport level. BE WARNED, IT IS VERY VIOLENT.

I was playing that level today, and I don't understand the fuss I've been hearing about it.

I've played games that were much worse as far as violence goes. Maybe I am already desensitized having seen bum fights and playing games like Postal, Carmageddon, GTA, and a few others.

And killing all the civilians like I did, just didn't seem to effect me at all. It just looks like a nice organization of pixels/polygons. The dead bodies just flow really. Its not realistic, and does not strike the emotional cord that I would get if I really did kill anyone.

Anyhow, only a bunch of douche bags would complain about such a thing. If the media makes a big deal about this, I recommend they take a look at all those gore porn films like Saw.

I can't stand gore porn. I don't understand how in America, cuss words and sex are censored but violence isn't. Its fucking stupid really.

I often question the principles of a person who watches Saw or any other gore porn film. Is there any logic to the film what so ever? Any point to it? Not really. People just love violence I guess.

The more I hear about these monthly subscriptions, the better I feel about "not paying, to play".

Really.... 60 dollars for a game? haha, I've only done that once and it was Fallout 2; it was well worth it.

Why the hell would I pay for a monthly subscription when I could host my own damn server? Oh wait, they got rid of that! And the modding support dropped off too. So in the end, its not worth it to buy it.

Call of duty multi-player is not even that good(its overrated). Its so simple and lame. I have much more fun with Battlefield 2. Its more realistic, and more tactical. It requires more strategy.

yeah, I agree.

sure, some of the over-the-top stuff is alright, but where the first game felt like an actual story that, although a bit exaggerated, could happen in the real world, this just felt like an orgie in "omg awesome!".

Are you talking about real and actual bum fights? Either videos of hooligans beating up homeless bums for fun and laughs, or videos of homeless bums forced/bribed to beat each other for other people's fun and laughs? If that's what you're talking about, and if that's what you watch for entertainment, then, yes, you have desensitized yourself. And it shouldn't surprise you that many people whose habitual entertainment is less exploitive and violent would be shocked/offended/etc. by the airport slaughter scene of civilians.

Douche bags != rational argument. Also, the media does indeed take a good look at films like Saw. Where do you think you learned the term "gore porn" (which you learned wrong, by the way, it's commonly bandied about as " torture porn")? Torture porn is all the rage for outraged discussions which are carried by the media all the time.

I hear this all the time, and I wish I could say it's clear what you mean, but it isn't. Hardcore pornography, which equals real people having actual sex, is censored only in the sense that it does not play at your local theater or on non-subscription TV stations. Entertainment programs featuring real violence between real people is likewise not shown in theaters.
Fake sex as well as fake violence are both quite readily available at the theater and TV.
If your complaint is simply that non-subscription TV features fake gunfights and faked deaths but doesn't feature bare breasts, then you're argument has nothing whatsoever to do with MW2's airport scene.

The first Saw movie actually was quite clever and intelligent, even if it was the one that spawned the phrase "torture porn." I maintain it's quite a good indie thriller/horror film.
And, unless I'm way off base on my understanding of what you meant by "bum fights," where do you get off watching those and complaining about people watching Saw?

Misteryo

The Australian government censored both L4D2 and Modern Warfare 2 = /

I feel violated.

I have seen no source for MW2 being censored(No Russian is fully playable).

God the level design is horrible. And that retarded ally AI. I'm playing on veteran and without the ability to lean or your comrades killing at least a couple of the bad guys it's a pain in the ass, especially since IW loves to make dudes fire at you from 4 diffrent directions. And appear behind you. Of course they fire straight at you the second they appear and always know where you try to flank them....Not that it's unbeatable, but designing your game on the base that your character WILL get hit every 5 seconds and only patch it up with a lame regeneration system is quite stupid.

It's all "look how cool our game is we got cool animations and America getting torned up by Russia". IW really needs to come up with something new, since they need to go way over the top now to beat previous CoDs.

Previous CoDs? There's only one other CoD that didn't have the whole World War 2 motif.

This one feels like it suffers from the 'rule of cool'. While the previous game had some of that stuff (killing a character with a nuke, then letting you crawl around while dying from radiation poisoning), it was less obvious and fit the story and setting better.

I keep thinking about Michael Bay while playing this game. It's like the first game was like The Rock - cool, enjoyable, great atmosphere, and a bit over the top. This one feels more like Bad Boys II.

hm, I kept thinking that the game was hard only because it's a long time since I played an fps and I just had to get back into it. but you're right, there are very many situations where enemies appear behind you, right next to you or somewhere out of sight and always manage to get a couple of shots off on you within a split second.

what makes CoD2 my favorite CoD game is (besides the setting) that you're much more reliant on your team mates and it's usually a set amount of enemies you need to kill in order to progress. sure, on some occassions you need to get from point A to point B and the enemies respawn infinitely. but even then the enemies are usually far off from you and you can rely on cover and picking targets off one by one as you move. in this game, it's not uncommon for enemies to pop up very close to you just as you move past them, meaning you will die and have to remember where exactly those enemies were to make it through next time. so in the end, your skill doesn't lie entirely in eye to hand coordination and fast reflexes as it should, but much more in knowing exactly where enemies appear at all time.

remember those side-scrolling shoot 'em up arcade games? well, the CoD games turn more and more into that.

I'm glad someone complains about something other than the short campaign.

And I completely agree, the ally AI ruins it. I've been killed so many times trying to use the Predator, in a place I deemed safe if I had one man protecting me, only to get shot by an enemy that SOMEHOW made his way around my ally.

Other than that I have no complaints. Other than the "oh it's kinda short"-kind. I still haven't played online, but I'll be buying LIVE sometime this week, so that I can play this weekend.

I am satisfied, absolutely.

It took me a while in the previous games to find out that enemies are, in fact, infinite. That kind of took away any strategy or realism the game had. I just don't get the fun of behaving like a complete moron, running towards the enemy while firing grenades in the vain hope that I can explode everything before I get hit in the head enough times, as someone charging wildly deserves to. But charging wildly is all you're supposed to do, up to the invisible safe-point that somehow stops the infinite spawn.

It's especially fun when they spawn behind you, in a closed room, in a dead-end hallway, and blast away at you with their shotgun while you are staring around confused, because hey, there wasn't any enemy a few sec ago.

The only thing I really liked about the previous Modern Warfare was the sniper mission. And that also ended in one hell of a stupid situation. The stuff they seem to have put in this latest installment of Modern Whackamole sounds like it is another step further on the ladder to infinite stupidity. Not just is the player not allowed to use his brains in combat, now they're even supposing he won't do so when spoonfeeding him a story that doesn't wish to make sense.

It doesn't make sense, no, but it still satisfy me. I mean, it's entertaining, absolutely, and even though it's not completely realistic, it's absolutely somewhat realistic. I didn't feel it all too realistic with the bombing and invasion and killing everyone and whatnot, but it still made me feel uneasy during the mission that has been so much talked about, just because the whole game felt too real. And it made me wonder, for a split second, if something like this could actually happen.

Played multiplayer a bit. Let's just say I am not impressed....it's just way over the top. I am also utterly uninterested in how the campaing ends - in other words, my copy's gonna get a new owner pretty soon.
