Can we honestly say Fallout 4 is better than Fallout 3?

I am trying to think of what I liked about Fallout 4, well the androids I guess (the non type 3 ones).
Okay they don't fit the setting completely but I could have lived with the androids had their origins and purpose been more interesting. (I personally would have written the type 3's as terminator like, a mechanical endoskeleton with cloned flesh around it)
What's likable about them though?

Like Gen 1 and 2 Synths are basically the same as every other robot we see in every other game, except with even less personality and even less ability to follow commands.

The only thing even vaguely remarkable about them is that they are humanoid in shape.

Occasionally I am tempted to buy Fallout 4

Don't do it. Save your cash for something else.

Or buy it second hand. Don't get it new.

That's what I thought the Fallout 3 androids actually were (minus cloned flesh, I assumed it was just synthetic skin), I was somewhat thrown off by the fact the synths in 4 are just humans but artificially made. They're too human I think, they should either be Terminator-like as you said or like Ash from Alien.

Still at least they aren't as bad as the Assaultrons.

What's wrong with Assualtrons? They fit in the universe, and I think their absence is readily explained by almost all of them being shipped to China before the bombs dropped.

I think they're too mobile and powerful for the size they are. If they were an Institute creation I would be more likely to accept them, but Pre-War I don't think they fit. Sentry bots and Protectrons (as well as other robots aside from the Eyebot) are rather large and clunky.

@RangerBoo ARE YOU BACK!?

latest

We've missed you so much! You know, despite our diametrically opposed politics and opinions on Fallout!

@The Dutch Ghost I remembered you tried to write your own version of Fallout 4, like the Institute being some kind of a city replacing Diamond City or something like that. Or was it someone else? Where did it go?

@Black Angel. Indeed, I had this idea for the Institute being this city of tomorrow built on the ruins of old Boston, a city as people imagined the future to be based on depiction in magazines and movies.

Well I did not do much with the topic or the text as I felt it would not lead to anything, just more fan wishing on how we would like a Fallout game to turn out.

Best to spend that time and energy on actually learning how to make a game.

IMO, it's actually fine to keep the topic on the back of your head, though. Might help a lot if you finally get down to making your own game. Probably the closest step to that direction is making a mod, or maybe even quest mods.

Well I haven't played Fallout 3 nor do I ever plan to but from all of the critique it sounds like shit, the dialogue choices for skill checks make me laugh. Having first hand experience with Fallout 4, I don't think I could say it was better. Pretty boring and anything to do with skills felt like an afterthought behind all of the shooting and running around which is bland after some time. Guess it's a sort of "pick your poison" sort of situation.
