Chris Avellone leaves Obsidian

Use the dynamic Camera and the Enhanced Camera mods, you will be able to see the rest of your body in first person, and makes third person mode a lot less clunky.

I've looked those up but still, I feel this type of stuff should be done vanilla.

Yeah, but you can't really call it the same game either.

Gameplay, no. Lore, yes and no. New Vegas is better for that there than 3.

Still, I wasn't arguing if they're "true sequels" or not, I'm talking popularity. From a business standpoint, the more sales, the more money the company makes, and the more money it makes, the more "it works out well."

Fact is some types of gameplay have a larger appeal than others. For me, 3 and New Vegas is a lot more fun to play with if only for the real time (though 3 has problems), I was never a huge fan of turn based games. I find myself opening Fonline Reloaded a lot more than Fallout 1 or 2. And, honestly, I was never a huge isometric or 2D fan either, unless the games are really old. Personally, I'd prefer 3 and NV to have been third person, because I feel no sense in making a character to just go in first person the whole time. There IS a third person button for those but... eh, third person is clunky in those titles.

I'm not saying 1 and 2 aren't good titles, they certainly are, but other types of gameplay are a lot more popular depending on certain ages.

*shrugs*

Diablo 3 sold 15 million units. And I can remember how someone at Bethesda voiced his opinion how it was "sad" they didn't chose first person or such nonsense when Blizzard released the first informations about Diablo 3.

I have no clue what design choice for games is or isn't popular. How many people played Angry Birds for example?

Blizzard probably chose not to make it first person because Hellgate London was basically the same thing (made by a bunch of former Blizzard North employees who worked on D1/2) and that tanked. Which is really a shame, I absolutely loved that game.

Slightly off topic but I think the most hilarious part about Diablo 3 was all of the fans of Diablo 2 joking about how it played like a dumbed down console game when it first came out; and then Blizzard actually went and announced it for 360/PS3 like a year later. Honestly I'd say most of the stuff with Diablo 3's lore and story was actually fairly decent, in that respect it wasn't any better or worse than Diablo 2 was.
I just hated the actual game itself, it just felt shallow and there wasn't anywhere near as much player agency with character builds as there was in Diablo 2. Not to mention it was incredibly easy in comparison.

Edit: I also ran into a tooltip that made me ragequit in my most recent attempt at playing through it again. It said "DID YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR CHARACTER TAKES DAMAGE HIS HEALTH DECREASES?" and I pretty much quit and never looked back after I saw it.

Mobile market is kinda iffy, really. Practices there seem to have different rules in gaming.

As for Diablo, I don't know really. I just seen my sister and her boyfriend play it a few times. Think it's dungeon crawler?

Chris Avellone just tweeted. Apparently he decided to join Bethesda, to work on some new FO4, aliens DLC .. thoughts?

I actually wanted to post something with the image of Chris and Tim Christmas special stretch goal for pillars, but google image kept trolling me with pictures of gay men, so you should be thankful I didn't put that on you :ugly:

Or, they made it like that because it is simply closer to the Diablo franchise because forcing a third person or even first person persective on it isn't what fitts to Diablo as franchise. Just a guess of course.

Blizzard didn't make Diablo 3 first person because they are cowards, which explains the obsession with the cow level. Only a studio full of EXTREME TESTOSTERONE and MANLY MAN have the LITERAL BALLS to change something to first person. Did you know every Bethesda employee has to take at least 78 anti-testosterone pills per day otherwise their testosterone levels would reach CRITICAL MASS EXTREME NUCLEAR FISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah the real question is why any other high selling game isn't in first person -- as it's clearly the superior POV. Madden NFL? Smash Brothers? Angry birds? Pokemon? these companies are clearly failing to provide the market with what it wants.

At the time of Bethasda purchase of the fallout IP, many studios went down, the rest tried to be conservative and no one touched cRPG with a stick. Interplay sold the IP to Bethasda, who was best known for role-playing open world fantasy in FPP.

Do you really need an intelligence check here:
1. Bethasda bought FO, so they churn out titles every 1-2 years without diluting its IPs, using its strength\experience in both.
2. Something todo with testosterone.

Well of course it should, but on the absence of it we can just use mods. I mean some of the more popular mods for FO3 were integrated into FNV so if they see people like those 2 they might do a "proffesional" version of those mods into the next game.
Altho, it was Obsidian who did the work on New Vegas, they actually know how to receive fan feedback, Bethesda probably couldn't give a rat's ass.

If I had control over the Diablo games I would remake Diablo 1 with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare combat, and then 2. Fuck 3.

Yeah wow, holding your mouse over an enemy and holding it down till the hp reaches zero. Much exciting. OH and then you can throw fireworks everywhere, and you can ADD +1 TO IT. WOOOOAH.

Sorry, I just played Diablo 2 SOO much I really can't stand these types of games anymore.

That's understandable, but it's a bit like saying that for Fallout 3.

I think either we should never get a sequel at all or that sequel should at least stay somewhat true to the gameplay of the originals.

He says he is gone to be Teacher of Defense Against dark Arts, maybe this gig is temporary. You know, those always left at the end of the year and all //dork
