Cyberpunk 2077

Looks fantastic. Love the massive 80s/90s futurism vibe with all the neon going on.
Yeah, I give the trailer 4 of 5 Buxbaums, just for the vibe.

If it has a bit of GTA, that would actually not even be the worst kind of thing to be honest, as long as the emphasis is still on role playing. I would love to see a good role playing game that acutally incorporates some kind of driving mechanic. It somehow reminds me also to apple seed.

I would really like to see a game that gives you a lot of chances for costmisation, from the brute cyborg that's looking like a tank on two legs and is barelly human anymore, to the stealthy cyber ninja or hacker king or what ever. It should kinda have also some effect on your choices as well, what kind of mission you can accept and how it shapes your story.

I found the trailer a bit lame, unexciting and generic. The dude who'll probably be our protagonist sounds awful and will be a pain to listen to through the game, and secondly it gave a pretty strong scifi GTA vibe.

That's already two things to check from my "I don't want to see" list... a voiced preset protagonist (whom we can slightly alter via character creation, but it's always him or a female counterpart... or so the trailer implies) and the GTA element.

On the plus side, there's also a slight implication for more open narrative than what Witcher had, though that might just be wishful interpretation on my part.

Need more info to fully get into this, a fair bit more.

One basic question that needs to be answered is this:

Will the game feature voiced protagonist? If so, pass. I am sick and tired of this trend in RPGs, where you can play as anyone you want.

Having a limited voice selection, will reduce replayability by huge amount, since I can only play as voiced protagonist number 1 (out of 4).

After shitout 4, Mass Effect, etc, I hate this more than anything else.

A friend of mine said that there were codes for Witcher 3 GOTY edition hidden in the trailer.

As much as I enjoyed old style RPG with silent protagonist I can understand why modern game designers do this, and frankly I like it when it's done right. For example Mass Effect 2 was fucking awesome, it had always few choices but the choices mattered and had weight, the whole ME trilogy was fantastic imo, fuck Andromeda, it's just a product of some dumbass mixed with SJW, plus the game was rushed af.
Fallout 4 sucked ass because it mainstreamed choices waaay too much, like a shit ton, Beth switched focus from RPG to building looting simulator with shooting.
On the other hand FO3 had silent protagonist and it still sucked ass, the writing in that game was horrible most of the times.
Witcher had no character creation and a voiced protagonist but it was arguably the best game released in recent years.
It's not the way you do it, but it's the quality of it that matters, imo.
I strongly believe Cyberpunk 2077 will have a character creation, because they said it will, and if they say it you can bet it's true. A voice would be great, most people don't like reading no matter what you may think, the technology allows for full voice cover so why not. Yes I agree reading allows you to immerse yourself much better in the role, but new generation don't like it when you have tons of text.
It's a compromise, not a terrible one. If the game is a good RPG, there's no excuse to pass it up.

Quality should be a given though, not an exception. So the issue of quality is not the most important question here. There are design decisions that play a huge role here as well and it goes much further than just 'immersion'.

Even if done 'right' with the correct quality the underlying issue of a voiced protagonist is that you simply can't express everything the same way like trough writing. It's like comparing a book and a movie where two people can read the same book but have completely different ideas about certain characters or landscapes and what they look like in their minds. A movie on the other hand, doesn't leave you any room for your own imagination. Writing can give you many options to display different situations with just a few lines of dialog and describtion, like a certain tone, accent, mood etc. Think about how easy it is to just describe your character having some heavy accent due to his herritage for example, or if he's intoxicated in some conversation. There is no way to do that one right, to speak so. Particularly accents are difficult to get right. You can express many different situaitons with just a few lines, where a voiced protagonist probably would need hundreds of different lines, recorded in different voices, tones and all that to express different moods and choices. Not to mention that it's already pretty easy to make changes with the game with just text, particularly in later stages of the development you'll have lot more options available to make changes on the fly. You will always have to deal with a ton of limitations when the protagonist is voiced.

The choice between a voiced protagonist and one that isn't isn't just purely technical limitation. I am not against a voiced protagonist, but it's not the holy grail of RPG development.

Also ME2 an 'RPG'? Good joke. It's a decent action game with a rich universe. But that's pretty much. Seriously, way to many 'action' games are passed as RPGs these days even though they offer you just the bare minimum of RPG mechanics.

I didn't say ME is an RPG, I said it was fantastic, and RPG elements in that game surpassed full blown RPG title FO3 because of the quality. Story, writing and the core of ME, the characters, especially ME2 were truly amazing.
Also I agree on what you say about limitations of a voiced protagonist, and im all for it, but it isn't as appealing as it used to be, reading I mean.
Voice doesn't necessarily kill an RPG, it makes it less diverse sure, but you can still make damn good RPG with it.

Also good luck reading subtitles sitting behind a TV screen on a couch. Aliased/Blurry subtitles on a screen with apple-sized pixels. A Fallout: Nevada-sized text of subtitles. On a TV screen. Yeah.
Wasteland 2 on PS4 sucks enough already.

It does, I bought in my PS4 back when my PC was older than my grama.
Those were the dark ages of my life.

Game is FPP RPG with TPP cutscenes

FP perspective made to feel more personal

RPG with Shooter Elements not a Shooter with RPG elements

Multiple different progression systems (Skills, Perks, etc.)

V, protagonist - urban merc/hired gun.

Full character creation system (Gender, Looks, Lifepath/Backstory)

You DO NOT pick classes in the beginning, class system is fluid based on choices

Dystopian Cyberpunk future shown in sunlight on purpose. Full Day/Night Cycle. Noir themes bleed through environment and aesthetic

Characters from Cyberpunk 2020 lore will appear

Netrunner, Techie and Solo are main focused classes You can combine classes

Optional classes exist (like Rockerboy and Corporate) and you can pull perks from them to add into your own custom class classes are represented by characters throughout the game (via G4ge)

Story and quest system from Witcher 3 is implemented into Cyberpunk similarly. Choice and consequence is HUGE. Emphasized that the game is an RPG first and foremost Story is personalized by player choice.

Combat - Ranged combat and Melee combat. Learned lessons from Witcher 3. FPS Melee combat.

Weapons - 3 branches - Power Weapons (heavy hitting/stagger), Tech Weapons (penetrating through cover), Smart Weapons (tracking/following)

Vehicles - Motorcycles, Cars, hinted at flying cars.

V is a fully voiced character. Both Male and Female completely voiced. V's personality is shaped by player. Backstory and interactions shape V's personality. Cyberpunk is a dark dystopia in the same vein as Witcher 3 being Dark Fantasy Details of the world - everything has a purpose. World design was a huge focus in setting the tone.

Night City - in between SF and LA (fictional city). Inspired by both cities. 6 unique districts in the city. Each area has its own feel on top of the base Noir feel Exploration is encouraged.

Witcher was horizontally huge, Cyberpunk is vertically huge.

You can enter buildings, Mega Buildings exist as well with multiple floors and multiple areas to explore within a single building.

No level scaling. 2 forms of XP - Core XP - Main Missions and Street Cred - Side missions Higher Street Cred opens new exclusive vendors and fixers (new jobs) EDIT: Also there’s full frontal nudity and you can take people back to your apartment for a one night stand, if you fancy it

I had that same thought. We see him taking shots to the face and barely flinch due to his cybernetic implants, but then he sounds like an annoying wimp or something.

About voice protagonist. If you're going to give the protagonist a voice, and it is a game where you make your own character (or to be honest, any other game). Just do the same as most games these days do with subtitles. Put an option to disable the voice of the main character.
Problem solved.

Wow the huge backlash the game got because of the rumor of first person perspective only.
Wait for the gameplay people..

Cyberpunk 2077 may be the best video game ever made. That may seem like a meaningless statement considering it’s nowhere near release yet, but what we saw of the game at E3 is probably the single most impressive preview we’ve ever been witness to."

"CD Projekt has alluded to the fact before and trying to clarify exactly what formats the game will be released on involved a series of nervous questions between CD Projekt staff, unsure of what exactly they should be saying. Eventually we got them to admit it would be coming out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with a nervous little laugh making it clear that also appearing on next gen consoles was very much the plan (which also gives a hint as to when the game will be released)."

"The demo was running on the sort of PC that would make SkyNet blush but the fact that it was running at all, on any hardware that currently exists, was frankly astonishing."

"We’ve no idea what Cyberpunk 2077 will look like on current gen consoles but even if it’s a significant downgrade the underlying mechanics of gameplay and narrative choice are still hugely impressive. The demo alone was one of the most entertaining video game experiences of the year and we weren’t even playing it."

"From everything we’ve seen of Cyberpunk 2077 it seems like the hype is not only real but if anything understated."

Hype

Will have to buy it for console since my PC is garbage. Thankfully the mod support should be minimal.
