District 9 - Viral marketing that actually worked for me!

the fact that it resembels heavily the way how south africa dealt with many black people during the apartheid somewhat makes this all though pretty interesting.

Not that I expect to many of it inside the movie since they still probably try to go for "entertaiment" then "education".

It's a bit heavy-handed about it, what with being set in South Africa too

Also, I just saw a trailer on NBC that makes it look like one of the shitty CGI spectacles films. Hope that's just fragments, tho', and most of the film isn't like that.

BTW, I mentioned this in another thread. This movie started out as Halo. They were actually making a Halo movie for 6 months before the companies cut off the funding. PJ decided to continue making it but turn it into a standalone movie. What it means is that the plot came second...

Yeah, but that's my point:
so we decided to find a project for him and we decided to build a story around his Live in Joburg short film.
Which means maximaz' assertion that "the plot came second" is incorrect. The plot idea was already there, the collapse of Halo just created the opportunity.

I'm happy that they actually got some South African actors instead of forcing me to listen to horrible imitations, I still can't get over Leonardo DiCaprio's garbage accent.

based on that plot summary, i dont need to waste money for a movie ticket, maybe when it hits dvd

I am so glad to hear that Halo concept colapsed. Halo is probably some of the most overated things ever.

How can that be if it's based on a short film by Neill Blomkamp, maximaz?

I mean, as far as the movie development is concerned. 6-months worth of work had been done before the project turned into District 9. They were working on Halo, it got canned, they decided not to waste the assets and to turn it into an original movie instead, and then came the new story idea (make it a long version of the short film). You know what I mean?

Looks pretty great, love those "interview" clips on the website. No doubt this is going to be good, if jackson is heavily involved as a producer.

Just hope the budget was bigger, lets face it, 30mil isn't really huge, and probably makes visible limitations.

I'll watch this movie...

when it comes out on DVD.

Still, the premise looks interesting. Just not real sure if that translates to the entire movie being interesting.

Like I said, DVD.

Actually he is right in a way Ryback. Unless you are based on a development studio with some serious clout, the puplisher, or more precisely the market research, public relations and planning departments of the publisher can use a mixer on your creation with impunity (As a most basic example: Kotor 2)

The most enjoyable titles I played were (usually) titles with a decent budget but nothing more. Enough budget to let the devs polish the game but not large enough to lose control in other words.

If this movie had a budget of100 million it would star a-list actors and it would be PG-13, they would have probaby gotten a seasond director as well. D9 is a risky movie, a low budget means in case it bombs they don't lose a shit load money. “its simple economics man”.
