Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Felt more like flying a biplane into a flak storm than being a mighty dragon at times but it was still fun.
Gotta finish Div 2 sometime.

yes I remember now

Haven't played this game yet, but I have to give beths credits for changing the composer for ES V.
Jeremy Soule has done a decent job on this game(as well as many other games). Wise choice I say, because Inon Zur works were awful!

Jeremy Soule has always been the music guy for every Elderscrolls game since Morrowind. So you can be pretty sure Inon Zur will be the go to guy for every future Fallout game. :/

Yes, this game has wonderful music. Apart from the title screen music (which is awful IMO), the tracks are very inspired and soulful.

I probably listened to the track "Sovngarde" on loop for like 3 hours when I first heard it. Epic stuff.

I've noticed that as long as you ignore the lact of effect your actions have, the quests and their structure is pretty damn good in the game.

I particularly like the Thieves' Guild questline (save for the whole "must sell your soul to progress"part) as it relies on actually doing thievy stuff, the Winterhold College quests are also nice (and I like the bit of realpolitik shown by the Psijics, namely arbitrarily making the protagonist the Archmage of Winterhold not because of his deeds, but because he's been a good bitch and a useful pawn).

Shame about the anticlimatic main questline, though.

still I think the progress inside the questlines is way to fast. You turn around once and *POOF* you are archmage!

I wish the "training" would have took a bit more time. Skyrim is much better then Oblivion here. But I still think the quests and story should take a bit more time to finish.

Not to mention the quest error kills almost everything. But playing the game without it ? Thats not possible either ... to make quests without the error you need a much better worked out quest line (where you have a chance to find things with explanations). The "quest spell" was a good start in that direction. I think the next game should work more on that where you have to improve the spell.

I found the Nightingale questline quite good up until the selling your soul bit to Nocturnal. There isn't even an option to say "No". Your only option is "Yes, I'm ready". Rather weak and further proof (as if we needed any) that this is not an rpg.

A small trick I discovered (dunno if it's news, tho):

1. Kill bandit
2. Loot him
3. Raise him as a zombie
4. Sneak attack it from behind
5. Profit (sneak increases and you get xp)

Got two levels and 6 sneak increases in Embershine Mine. How easy.

There are also some friendly NPC's who you can constantly charm and they won't become hostile. Easy way to get Illusion to 100.

That is one of the reasons I don't care for Elder Scrolls anymore - It's easy to get everything to 100.

Try not using glitches so it's not "that" easy. I was playing this game for some time now, and haven't maxed any skill yet. I'm not training 'em with npc's tho'.

I don't use glitches. No worries though.

Those are not technicallyglitches, they are working the wat they programed it, Those are exploits. And sometimes using exploits is the only way to not get bored trying to level up a skill.

Well I personally found Jeremy Soules work on Icewind Dale better, the New Vegas music of Zur isn't that great either, I don't even remember the one from Tactics, only recall it being very bland.
He has no "soul" (no pun intended) in what he does in my humble opinion.

The Hans Zimmer of the music industry, so to say.

I really have to give credit to the Skyrim music, when it's not totally overboard "omg epic" I found the ambient approach very pleasing.

I would not call them all glitches though.

Sure stuff like the ogma book to raise your skills. Yes. Clearly glitch.

But raising a zobmie to sneak attack it ? Or "missusing" characters which never become hostile ? (like the fact that some NPCs are unkillable). I am not sure if that really is using some kind of exploit since its part of the game to say that - since Beth people think that their player base is way to "dump" to not konw what happens when you kill the major-plot guy which you need to get forward in the story. Though I remember Arcanum did it quite well. They made the quests in a way that you could finish them regardless if you killed the person you need or not.

I disagree about the New Vegas music. I loved the western themed ambient music. Some of it reminded me of Fallout 2 to be honest. It was much better than the F3 ambient music anyway. I hear a lot of complaints on New Vegas about the ambient music, but I think it was dead-on for the environment. Did anyone watch the Making of FNV that came with the Special Edition? I think they got the theme right personally. It didn't sound like Oblivion which was an improvement over F3....

I don't get the hate for Fallout 3 ambient stuff.

Songs like "Into the Wasteland" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JKVanqVvVw&feature=related )

work perfectly for setting up atmosphere during exploration. Just listening to that song now outside the game brings back the memories...

Fallout 3 was much worse than NV in terms of writing/quests/story, but damn was it fun exploring that world.
