Fallout 4 gameplay videos leaked, Bethesda starts taking them down

They are super mutants, they could use those things as some kind of "grenade" if they have to ... suicide mutants makes zero sense in such a situation. The blast radius of the nuke isn't really THAAAT huge in Fallout 3/4 to begin with ...

Also, if the super mutants can actually afford to field suicide bombers, where do new mutants come from? Are they all remnants from Vault 87? Is there ANOTHER FEV source?
Or are Vault 87 super mutants just so incredibly stupid that they don't care?

Or is Bethesda just so stupid that they don't care?

I mean... theoretically, wouldn't pacifying a dumb super mutant be easier than one that retained it's intelligence but still has malicious intent? Most of the dumb super mutants on both coasts just do what they're told by the mutants who they are following. Maybe there could be a questline that is about pacifying the super mutants in the Boston area, and integrating them into human society as guards or...

Who am I kidding, there's no way it would be an entire questline. At best, it would be a single quest in a line about gathering allies to storm the institute or something.

You fail to understand the problem. Nuance is the word here, Smart mutants need to be more than Tokens and Mutants can't be this level of stupid brute. It's all about actually writting factions properly, not just littering the wasteland with orcs who are compeltely dumbed down versions of a much more nuanced Faction of the Original Fallout games and New Vegas.

Exactly. The stupid ones are so stupid they lack basic self-preservation instincts and, for some reason, are always aggressive. The intelligent ones are more intelligent than most people.

It would be nice to see some kind of society with the stupid ones, and not always aggressive (maybe like neathderthals or something), and some mutants of "normal" human intelligence to fill in the gaps.

Wel lI wouldn't call Strong smarter than most people, he just quotes Shakespeare because that's what Emil seems to think makes a character smart. He also has no issue just killing all his "brothers" on the ride down... So even to him the other Super Mutants are just mindless Brutes. You also don't get any chances to talk to this "Fist" character he is just a named Super Mutant that is instantly agressive.

It seems like this is exactly what these two are, not smarter than most people but smarter than the usual idiots.

I'm trying to work with what is available, and the presence of behemoths suggests that these are still the Vault 87 mutants. Since those mutants seem to grow bigger, and become dumber with age, there's only so much to work with. So unless that's been retconned (please) to avoid the intelligence dampening of age there's not a lot of options in that regard. Then again there was Fawkes and he seems to be a couple hundred years old if the torn vault suit is anything to go by...

God I forgot what a mess they were.

Why are the others just mindless idiots? they also have no organization and no goals. Why write the Super Mutants in that fashion?

And they needed to make them mindless orcs with no nuance or interesting dynamics? This is just terrible writting all over, they retconned shit just to add a faction of mindless orcs...

They didn't really retcon, they added to it without changing the originals. I like the idea that the FEV wasn't just in one spot considering how crazy an experiment it was, but different strokes. Had they made the Super Mutants in DC the Master's former army that made their way across or something it would've been idiotic.

Because they want a relatively formidable enemy that isn't regular size human enemies?

That's totally fine for them to have. The problem is that they have some basic intelligence (e.g. they can use tools such as guns, they can speak), so it would be really nice to see some background of how they live when they are not fighting. They must be as intelligent as early humans at least, if (for some reason) excessively aggressive. But you would expect some basic settlements / shelters, maybe a basic religion, internal struggles, respect for the dead?

Even with that level of intelligence, they must have some primitive kind of society or culture. That would be really interesting (we kind of get that in New Vegas with Marcus, Tabitha, and the one who worships the cow skull). Instead Bethesda creates mindless orcs that don't really make sense (even if we exclude the lore).
