Fallout 4 "The Wanderer" trailer

So why make a GOOD and WELL-written RPG when we can have more explushans and shooting thingz?

Fallout 4 is going to be a good RPG, definitely not the best, but the other qualities will more than make up for it

If you have the time, watch it. It really takes only 30 min of your life and you might learn something. All you have to do is to imagine that it is about Fallout instead of the Elder Scrolls and that he is talking about Fallout 3. But 90% of what he says can be directly related to Beths version of Fallout. Again! Really. Watch the video if you REALLY want to know where we are coming from.

I would prefer they make sense and add some green. Like Last of Us. Someone made a mod for FO3 that added green and foliage/trees everywhere back in the day, you know, since Beth didn't. I can't imagine how long it would take to make something like that for FO4.

Anyways, as far as trailers go - it was 'ok' but just kind of shrugworthy.

Now these trailers made me pumped for Witcher 3. CD Projekt is good about building a story and a world, and showing you the kernels of an epic story to explore:

Also CD Projekt is masterful when it comes to treating source material with respect, as someone whom has read the Witcher books. Their games are the best 'extended universe' book-to-game stuff I've ever played. Beth on the otherand, I don't think treated their source that well.

Yeah, Bioware does this often with their products.

You know, Since Bethesda is dick riding Bioware so hard, Why don't they fucking take some lessons on how to make unique trailers that show case story or build up to it.

Bethesda, You stupid lazy fucks.

going on the general consensus that this game is Skyrim with guns, this live action cool-guy trailer roughly corresponds to the live action Dragonborn trailer in some ways

So, I decided to look at the comments on the video, Because i'm a masochist. This is the "gem" i found.

I QUOTE

"HONESTLY NOW, i loved the Witcher 3, but there was a point where i just started blasting through it because i wanted it to be completed so i could get to MGSV, same thing tried to blast through the story, didn't bother much with side missions. those games are both 3rd person action games where you take on the role of Geralt and Big boss, and i think that's the reason i want fallout 4 so badly, it's first person! I can feel like I am the character! You choose your appearance and personality! it's YOUR STORY! Those games are amazing and possibly GOTY material, BUT FALLOUT 4 it looks groundbreaking! holy shit! just forget about any other games releasing, this is THE game! the game to spend real time on, doing side missions taking my time, really enjoying the experience. I even ordered the pip boy edition, I can't wait! Thank you Bethesda! for a second there i thought you only cared about the elder scrolls series and was going to let fallout die."

End Quote

Yeah, This fucking shitty generic action trailer REALLY is ground breaking. I can just feel the faltering of amazing games in the past, Like Kotor 2, Bauldar's Gate, And Planescape Torment just fucking shock i awe at the ingenious trailer.

Man, All the people need to stop drinking the kool-aid.

Scream in frustration? No I just think you kids are morons. I'm pretty laid back about it.

:monocle:

Not all kids are morons. Sure most are but you know there are exceptions.

The kids who come to troll and state how great their shitty games are. If you aren't one of those then don't take offense. Frankly a lot of kids in the states are fucking morons; Glued to their fancy newfangled phones with a piss poor education system all the while shoveling Doritos and Mountain Dew down their gullets while they teabag away on CoD.

Hyperbole or not, this kind of speech comes across as generalized anger towards people who are probably not all that different from you.

I'm 35, I loved the original games, and I love the new games, different though they may be. Do you hate me for liking Fallout 1, 2, 3, and NV, and for pre-ordering Fallout 4? Do you hate me for liking Wasteland 2 and Skyrim; Jagged Alliance 2, and Far Cry 3?

What would happen if you let go of the anger and allowed everyone to like what they like without judgment from you?

Okay why does that woman in the Fallout 4 trailer look dead with those emotionless eyes and why are her lips flopping around like that in an uncanny manner?
That voice acting and animation look putrid, everyone in that trailer has punchable faces.

Shooting people in the face is fun, hth

Personally, I disagree. I have never found that sort of thing fun.

That I don't find "shootin' dudes and explosions" entertaining is why I play RPGs and not shooters to begin with.

But you're forgetting, this guy is a veteran. With a low, emotionless voice and a dog too. You think someone like him would be scared of a wasteland?

It's sort of surprising they haven't done any trailers or the like where you're playing as this guy's wife, who is the other option for the player character. I thought we learned this from Mass Effect that when you can play as a male or a female character (as you generally should in an RPG), you shouldn't just put the dude in the marketing since at the very least it gives a misleading impression (i.e. that the game is about "this dude" rather than being about whoever you want it to be about, I mean after the first trailer came out Bethesda literally had people concerned that you always had to play as this one white dude instead of whoever it is that you want.)

No, you're getting this backwards. Fallout 3 and 4 are marketed and sold as Sequels, Bethesda made that statement a couple of times and they made that point pretty clear in their development. And you can not blame anyone now for treating them as such.

Now, we can talk about two things here.

We can talk about the quality Fallout 3 and 4 have as RPGs without ever talking about Fallout and we can talk about their quality as Fallout games with the design principles that are unique to Fallout - And yes, there is some.

In both cases though, at least with Fallout 3 you will find that it is lacking no matter what we are talking about. First it is a rather weak RPG. But I won't go over the points in detail because they have been talked to death and I feel everything that needs to be said has been already said thousands of times already. The topics are there for those who care to read them.

The other part is that neither Fallout 3 nor Fallout 4 can be and ever will be true Sequels to Fallout 1 and 2. Even if they would be perfect RPGs. Fallout 1 for example was defined by turn based combat as much as it was by it's story and the 50s-fision-of-the-future-blown-to-pieces apocalypse setting. Remove some parts and you don't have a Fallout game anymore. It simply was never meant to be a first person shooter. And I do NOT(!) say this as someone who hates FPS games, I LOVE(!) FPS games. I played Crysis, Doom, Half Life, Counter Strike and I love(ed) those. But a Fallout FPS simply can not be a sequel to Fallout 1 and 2.

Just as how I am sure you could use the gameplay from Candy Crush replace all of it's visual assets with those from Doom and start selling it as Sequel. While I am sure that SOME would have a lot of fun with it a large part of the original Doom player base would actually question the sanity of the developers and asking them if they are completely out of their mind - and rightfully so. Such a game simply can not be a Sequel to previous Doom games.

And that is what you have with Fallout 1/2 and Fallout 3/4. Fallout 3 and 4 are spiritual successors in design to Oblivion and Skyrim. That some people enjoy this is not the problem. But it still doesn't change the fact that it is only a Fallout game in name only. And it really is not hard to see why that is a problem for long time Fallout fans.

What would happen if you let go of the anger and allowed everyone to like what they like without judgment from you?
How does anyone here not allow you to like what you like?

Personally, I view the kind of gamer who you are making yourself out to sound like you are with contempt.
Because what it sounds like to me is that you are the kind of gamer that just don't care.

I'm a gamer that holds the position that games can be art, not are art, but can be art. Not every game has artistic merit behind it.
Fallout does though, and so I will judge it as an art-piece and will therefore judge any continuation of it based on their artistic integrity.
Fallout 3 and 4, has none.

Gamers that just don't care is what has allowed publishers and developers to get away with so much shit over the years and are the reason for why beloved franchises get mutated into abominations. Gamers that just don't care are the reason for why artistic integrity has been thrown out the window as you don't hold the developers and publishers accountable for their mistreatment of IP's. Gamers that just don't care are the reason for why games can't be art. Because with no artistic integrity how can there possibly be art?

I don't hate you as a person, I hate the way you approach gaming. But I don't mind it so long as you aren't taking a stance against people who don't approach gaming as just being for fun but who view gaming as an art-form.

(This next part isn't necessarily directed at you in particular, it's a broad point I'm trying to make)
I get it though. Some people out there are casuals who just want to have fun. They don't care about much else but what is enjoyable to them. And for them it doesn't matter how much an IP changes over the years to the point that it is no longer recognizable to its original. All they want is to have something to relax to and play. I totally understand where they're coming from. I just think that people like this don't have any kind of leverage when it comes to debates. Sorry, but if you didn't give a rats ass about the franchise prior to it changing then you really shouldn't be taking a position against it changing back. If someone wants to have some actual leverage then they need to have some fucking principles. And to any fan of FO1/2/T (and I mean fan, not just casual player or whatever) who got lulled by FO3 and ended up loving it and is now super-excited for FO4; You don't get to use your history of being a pre-Bethesda Fallout fan as leverage. You threw that leverage away when you became a sheep for an Oblivion-clone.

You can like whatever the fuck you want to like, man.
You just wanna have fun and play whatever the hell type of sequel a publisher releases? Go ahead. I ain't gonna judge you for that.
What I will judge you for is when you take position against people with legitimate grievances with how an IP is transforming.

Oh man that video. Hating on quest markers? The utter contempt for casual gamers, delicious. Personally I'm glad more people played and enjoyed stuff like Skyrim/Fallout 3. The fact that this upsets people enough to make a video like that is hilarious.

I even agree on some of his stuff (particularly about the factions in Skyrim), but that didn't affect my enjoyment of the game THAT much. If the changes Bethesda make on the game (and they can do whatever they want since they do own the IP lol) means more people enjoy it, so be it. I'm 100% it's gonna be a fun game to explore and fuck around.

Do you actually understood any of the points?

So if they make Fallout 5 a clone to Candy Crush with micro transactions selling it as the only Sequel to Fallout that would be also OK with you? I mean if it sells more units. And if it means more people enjoy it, so be it, right?

If we are at it why don't we also collect all books, movies, paintings, music and games that we can find throwing it on a pile except for Twillight, 50 shades of Gray, Transformers, Justin Biber and Oblivion/Skyrim and replacing everything in libraries with those declaring it the fun-zone. And after that we can set the pille we collected on fire and start to dance around it naked while throwing feces at each other while tying to sound and move like apes.

It works for the intended audience, as un-Fallout as it is. That's what matters most to Bethesda. It tries so hard to seem Fallout, but it actually ends up being contrived (that's an understatement); the Welcome Home billboard at the end with the PC dressed in power armor walking alongside his dog pal is a testament to that.

Some r/Fallout user or Bethesda apologist is probably going to read this post and think I'm arguing only for the sake of arguing. This trailer, similar to what Mr Fish said, is bastardizing the artistic integrity of Fallout. The game might care more for the integrity of Fallout, but the marketing isn't.

Jesus stop putting words in my mouth. I know you're being hyperbolic about, well pretty much everything but anyway, I don't need to worry about Fallout 5 being candy crush because Bethesda knows what they're good at (making fun open-world RPGs)

Wow that's hilarious and true, lets not forget that a ton of those Bethesda fans are wanking each other off in a circle jerk over the trailer because OMGZITZFALLOUT!!! Is there a way to like posts from the mobile version of the site? I'm not at my computer at the moment.

Guys, why do you even worry? The industry is gonna implode in the near future with all their over inflated budgets and narrow genre range. PC is quickly overtaking consoles in sales so we'll just have to wait a while for the age of Big Publishers to come to an end.

That might or might not happen, but if you ask me, that's not really important anyway. The future looks pretty awesome either way!

More and more games are made with the spirit of Fallout 1 and/or 2. Great writing, dialog, Role Playing options, story telling, turn based combat etc. Like Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, Divinity:Original Sin, the just recently released Age of Decandence. And many of those games have also already plans for sequels not to mention the projects that are STILL in the works like Torment Numenera. Crowdfounding is going pretty strong. It did so for quite a while now. And there is no sign of it slowing down. It shows that there is still a relatively huge market and demand for games like Fallout 1. And as long as that is satisfied one way or another, everything is fine in my book.

You're kinda dense ...

I am putting words in your mouth? Seriously. Why are you even here? Do you feel we need people like you to enlighten us to save our souls or something? You said it by your self, just here, no phuns, no hyperbole jokes. Beth can do what ever they want, it's their IP. No shit Sherlock! That is EXACTLY what we criticize. And even YOU agree that Beth made changes to the game. Again, ANOTHER one of the points that we critize because, god forbid! We compare the SEQUEL to it's predecessors.
