I'm 35, I loved the original games, and I love the new games, different though they may be. Do you hate me for liking Fallout 1, 2, 3, and NV, and for pre-ordering Fallout 4?
Personally, I view the kind of gamer who you are making yourself out to sound like you are with contempt.
Because what it sounds like to me is that you are the kind of gamer that
just don't care.
I'm a gamer that holds the position that games can be art, not are art, but can be art. Not every game has artistic merit behind it.
Fallout does though, and so I will judge it as an art-piece and will therefore judge any continuation of it based on their artistic integrity.
Fallout 3 and 4, has none.
Gamers that
just don't care is what has allowed publishers and developers to get away with so much shit over the years and are the reason for why beloved franchises get mutated into abominations. Gamers that
just don't care are the reason for why artistic integrity has been thrown out the window as you don't hold the developers and publishers accountable for their mistreatment of IP's. Gamers that
just don't care are the reason for why games can't be art. Because with no artistic integrity how can there possibly be art?
I don't hate you as a person, I hate the way you approach gaming. But I don't mind it so long as you aren't taking a stance against people who don't approach gaming as just being for fun but who view gaming as an art-form.
(This next part isn't necessarily directed at you in particular, it's a broad point I'm trying to make)
I get it though. Some people out there are casuals who just want to have fun. They don't care about much else but what is enjoyable to them. And for them it doesn't matter how much an IP changes over the years to the point that it is no longer recognizable to its original. All they want is to have something to relax to and play. I totally understand where they're coming from. I just think that people like this don't have any kind of leverage when it comes to debates. Sorry, but if you didn't give a rats ass about the franchise prior to it changing then you really shouldn't be taking a position against it changing back. If someone wants to have some actual leverage then they need to have some fucking principles. And to any fan of FO1/2/T (and I mean fan, not just casual player or whatever) who got lulled by FO3 and ended up loving it and is now super-excited for FO4; You don't get to use your history of being a pre-Bethesda Fallout fan as leverage. You threw that leverage away when you became a sheep for an Oblivion-clone.
You can like whatever the fuck you want to like, man.
You just wanna have fun and play whatever the hell type of sequel a publisher releases? Go ahead. I ain't gonna judge you for that.
What
I will judge you for is when you take position against people with legitimate grievances with how an IP is transforming.
