Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

Actually, I Think I will enjoy both. Different games, different concepts. It might be fun.
Good for you. A lot of people think you enjoying it in any way shape or form is sacrilege.

Heck yesterday I was very excited with the launch of the RE2 remake only to find people whining about it not being classic Fixed camera angle/Tank control scheme.
People calling each other faggots for preferring one control scheme over the other. You're back in 2004 flame wars with the exact same participants well into their late 20s and 30s now behaving like like 12 year old CSGO players.

NOT saying Beth didn't fk up with lore and RPG elements in general actively investing time and energy in hating things is unproductive and I fail to see how going through the same arguments. that have been discussed in every corner of the internet is "entertaining."
Would be great if it were kept in the same thread but when the hate spills over into other unrelated topics it just gets exhausting.

Well, I don't think anyone here has a problem if someone is enjoying or even excited about turd games like Fallout 69. The problem most of us just have, is when someone wants to explain to us how wrong we are for finding the old games better or how the new stuff is like 12532534325342344236325345 times better, cuz it's new! And shiny! And new! Calling people old fashioned and nostalgic isn't exactly the best way to conect with them. - I am talking only for NMA right now.

I really don't get from where people find this impression about NMA. Maybe the Codex, but even then they're mostly trolling and shitposting all day long, to the point some of them get tagged for all to see.
In fact, on the contrary of the statement above, people more often than not get really defensive whenever the things they like gets criticized, where the criticizers most of the time get called 'haters'.

They don't really deserve the franchise if there is no intention to carry on the gameplay style of the originals.
Hell, the very least wider audience would ask of them would definitely keep on going by the style of New Vegas. Keep the supposed improved shooting mechanics, add them on top of the system of New Vegas, and that's it! That's it, really....

What do you expect me to do? Stay quiet? Of course i'm not gonna stay quiet and not say how i feel about this game. Even if i just make someone aware how much Bethesda has fucked up this franchise, i'm good.

People can be excited for this game all they want, i don't care, but i'm not gonna sit here and not say how i feel about the game. Even if it means repeating arguments that have been repeated for literally a decade.

The problem is implementing good systems like that costs more money than it makes. Bethesda is slowly coming to the realization that the only necessary feature to sell a Fallout game at this point is Vault Boy, which is why we are getting cheap to develop garbage like Fallout 76 instead of another New Vegas. It's the classic battle of "art versus product". What sucks the big one in this case is the fact that we are legally not allowed to have a new piece of art because somebody purchased intellectual property and has to decided to sell it as a product.

It's no real question why Bethesda is ripping off FoT. It's probably my fave(heh heh) Fallout of the "Great Bunch"(most of Interplay relative titles - for the PC - before their.. ahem, "Fall") aesthetically and has some ideas with FO value if reworked slightly. And that(ripping off), they have been good at, or even excelled at(resulting in their graphics representations). Dunno why they don't get the rest part properly(especially the "observant player view - NOT FIRST PERSON, YOU SMUCKS!" and the setting).

FO/FO2 destroyed those cities and they could have build something new and original(after all those years they're managing the franchise - twice as many as Interplay has btw.)over them, like was done in initial games. But no, they had to apply it to existing world etc. using even actual location data and architecture (Why? I believe they took the easy way cause they lacked an actual vision cause yes, they don't really know what FO is afterall. They tried to fix what wasn't broken and left as it was what was broken). Ofcourse they messed it up like an upset stomach in the end.

P.S. Going back at an earlier period, is usually when you know a franchise is dying or in decline. They often do a prequel(as has happened with ENT before Trek cancellation, or even in the case of FO with FoT Timeline in a different place as is much the case with V76 apparently.)

Hate is fun man nothing wrong with hate, though it does get annoying when you get tired of the subject I suppose.

It's been roughly 10 years of waiting for sophisticated concepts and, with the exception of FNV, everything else has been mediocre or below average. FNV tried and it's regarded as being too boring by general audiences because they aren't hearing ka-ching every 30 seconds.

I'm actually glad Fallout 76 is happening. It's high-time people realize what the IP actually means to management. No more playing charades and trying to convince yourself that helping a woman date rape a guy for good karma is the creme de la creme of choices and consequences.

True, that is a questionable design decision - but only in that the reward is positive karma.

I don't think people understand just how stupid Fallout 3's main story is. Some may think is a dumb but no, it's really stupid. such stupidity is even known to cause those who played Fallout 2 to pull their eyebrow muscles from furrowing so hard after witnessing the stupidiness of Fallout 3. A game that has you break a device capable of recreating the environment to be lush and viable so the people can rebuild civilization again to make a water filter that won't work. the main characters father kills himself when he doesn't need to. the main villain kills himself when he doesn't need to. the main character kills them self when they don't need to. Every thing in the game is Dumb Dumb Dumb.

Now admittedly, I never finished Fallout 4. I never even got to the Institute. I was so bored I just moved on but what I did see was pretty fucking dumb. Just saw the world end in nuclear flame, not to mention watching my spouse get murdered and my child kidnapped while looking on helpless behind frozen glass in the span of what appeared to be 15 minutes and you can just make snark comments to your robot like nothing happened. Fuck Shawn I got me a fucking fort to build.

I dont think I ever said 3 had a particularly intelligent story. But its writing did shine in some areas in some quests and of course the pitt. 4 was certainly an upgrade in the writing department as the companions and overall plot felt like it had more choice to it. Again I do want to emphasize this doesn't even come close to the quality of writing we have seen by Obsidian or Black Isle but im honestly not gonna give a video game too much shit for not being the most meaningful and in depth plot the world has ever seen. Sure its unfair to imply games cant have great plots and characters but that doesnt mean they solely have to excel in traditional story telling always. Its not that bad and I think people confuse mediocre or average writing for actually terrible writing. Which I would argue there is so so much worse you can do than Bethesda. I mean certainly the environmental writing fleshes out the world and is actually somewhat interesting.

To each his own I suppose but I just think its rather unfair to over emphasize a games writing simply because it doesn't live up to its isometric predecessor which was heavily based on writing. I mean I suppose you could argue new vegas is evidence of great writing using the gameplay format but then you have to admit there was nothing actually wrong with Bethesdas gameplay loops or mechanical RPG systems. Sure you could talk about minor changes as much as you want but it doesnt change the fact its virtually the same game.

EDIT: Also lets be real if your gonna hate it for rather explicitly being not what you wanted then why play it? Bethesda isnt forcing you to part with your cash just to hate whatever they make. Yes its unfortunate 3 didn't have stronger writing chops and 4 was a step back in a lot of ways but I still think they are enjoyable. Them changing how a franchise I like works doesn't equate to life sucking and all video games being bad or whatever. Idk I just think its an unhealthy and frankly useless pessimism and anger to possess. Especially considering this time they're very explicit in the idea this isn't much like any of their other projects either. (this isn't directed at anyone in particular just a general observation and comment)

I don't even compare Fallout 3 and 4 writing to the previous games, it's just god awful in general when just looking at its basic core. Plot holes, characters making nonsensical decisions, characters having no personality and so on.

And nothing wrong with RPG mechanical systems? Are you serious? It's easily one of the worst aspects in the Bethesda Fallout games. Removal of traits, removal of skill points, removal of several perks, there's so much more removed from the previous games.

And again, you are objectively wrong when you say Fallout 3 and NV are virtually the same gameplay wise. Being FPS doesn't make them "virtually the same".

A little bit offtopic, but I was searching MisterCaption's Reddit history a few days ago and some guy in one of the threads was obsessing over how people were saying how F3 has bad story, gameplay, etc. He was insisting that nothing about F3 was "objectively bad" because concepts like "bad and good" are subjective and he kept "correcting" them. Why do the terms even exist then?

Edit: Found it.

mothman is a cool idea

having watched the latest gameplay footage i actually think the game looks fun. it's just, as i said earlier, that it doesn't look or feel like fallout in the slightest and is breaking the lore
and it will probably turn out to be a pile of shit because bethesda is just not good at making games

Then objectivity might as well not exist.

Here's the thing: there's a big difference between liking something and looking at it from an objective standpoint. Fallout 3's story is filled with plot holes, characters making stupid decisions and several characters having very basic personalities or none at all. These aren't opinions, these are facts. This is what happens in the story, this is what Bethesda gave us in terms of story. People can like this story but if they can't refute none of these criticisms with ingame examples, then these are objective truths.

I love Sonic Adventure 1, but i'm not gonna pretend that the game is good because it's not. It's mediocre at best with camera issues, glitches galore, terrible lip synching, music being way too loud in cutscenes. Big's fishing gameplay doesn't fit the franchise's main gimmick and several other things.

This "it's just your opinion" has a limit to how much it can be used. Liking something is definitely subjective though.

How do people feel about criptids like mothman and aliens like the flatwoods monster being in the game.
Not enthused. Anything monstrous in the game (other than human behavior) should directly originate from the war, or be plausible hallucination. If the Mothman were real, in the sense of an immortal intelligence affecting the world... then that's more a theme for Ravenloft than for Fallout.

I agree removal of skill points in 4 was a terrible terrible idea. Though the perk system as (tiering it made skill checks make more sense) had potential albeit it was wasted on level caps for skills and unlimited levels (mods could change that sure but vanilla experience is what matters) also perks differ from game to game based on the type of RPG it is. the removal of a handful of perks and OPTIONAL starting traits do not suddenly break or ruin a system. Thats so minor its like me complaining that bioshock doesnt have weapon degradation instead of addressing its real problems as a successor to system shock 2. Trivial systems is not whats wrong with fallout 3 and 4, I have to question if a bunch of random stats is what makes fallout and not the broader themes and style of mechanics. Also controversial but correct fallout 3 did a good job of stream lining the unnecessary two medicine skills and removing gambling (a skill I abused to no end for free money)

Also there not just an FPS, I know its kinda of hard to grasp that your basically playing the same bloody game albeit one with the benefit of having come later with a few tweaks and changes as you know practically every sequel have. Sure thief 1 and 2 may not be the EXACT same game but they bloody play similar. I know its hard admitting maybe just maybe bethesda didn't do something so terribly wrong it ruined fallout forever and now your never allowed to play fallout 1,2 or new vegas again...oh wait.

same engine, same skill system, same gunplay, same vats, same pip boy, same exploration, same style of dungeons and etc etc.

Also give me a break there no such thing as objectivity in game criticism.

EDIT: Oh yeah before you ask im an original fan of the series, played 1,2 and new vegas before I played 3 and 4. I like all the main line games and new vegas. I am completely fine with someone not liking a video game I like because it doesnt affect my enjoyment of said game nor do I think someone is stupid for doing so.
