Fallout 76: E3 Trailer

I find it a little amusing that 76 is the first game Bethesda makes that uses the classic Fallout designs (or designs directly inspired by them anyway) for the cover art-featured power armor and the pip boy, yet the game itself is likely further from what 'classic' Fallout fans enjoy than ever before as far as being an actual rpg goes anyway.
Ironic if nothing else.

Aaand, Todd Howard memes - it was only a matter of time. Let's see which memes get strong enough to be featured at E3 next time Bethesda show up

HEY Don't Forget us Bigot!!

YASSSS SLAYY QUEENSSSSS!!!!!!
YEEESSSSS!!!

I really hope that new california and the frontier are great and give a true fallout experience. F76 is just sad.
I think it will be. I'm more excited for Fallout New California than I am 76. I really wish I could make a good Fallout mod that'd be its own story.

I'd rather have someone tell me they've pre-ordered 15 copies of Fo76, than try to convince me that Fallout 3 is a better game than Fallout 2.

Fallout 2? Eh, a lot of you NMA fanboys praise that game a lot even though it has its very own Kid n a Fridge (spooky ghost) and telepathic shamans transmitting you messages.

Fallout 1 is better than Fallout 2.

Full. Stop.

Fallout 3? Again you fanboys shit on the game too much. Fallout 3 was an alright game, Bethesda tried their best.

I'll say Fallout 4 is shit.

Fallout New Vegas is king.

Fallout 76 looks like fun for all of the trolling and nuking i'll be doing. I'll also be able to scream and REEEEEEEEE that Fallout: New Vegas is the best Fallout.

No, if anything we are too nice to the game. I don't even mention half of the shit i think Fallout 3 does terribly.

The spooky ghost didn't completely destroyed one of the most important decisions of Fallout 1, which is taking or not taking the water chip in the Necropolis. I can cut some slack to something that most likely was rushed because of deadlines.

Nah. Fallout 2's skeletons were minimal and the sum of its parts led to a consistent game.

Fallout 3 is just plain bad.

Also new noclip documentary talking about Fallout 76. More details:

Actually, it seems that this game isn't actually a "Bethesda team" game but a project spearheaded by Arkane's second office in Austin after Arkane's last project was cancelled.
It seems that it was them who came up with the idea of using already existing assets for a small Rust-like game and in order to keep their graphic designers and other "non essentials" (me loves corporate speak...) employed, they sicced them on the existing background material and told them to convert them into in game assets.

That's why we see a decent number of Van Bauren, F1, F2, F:T items and concept art pieces converted to 3D and included in the game after all this time, in addition to other logical variants like that constructor/loader looking power armour variant, good looking guns and so on.

Did I hear it right? Todd said in that IGN interview that players are marked on the map? So people can find each-other easily?
...Todd... You know that is a HUGE problem in a online game? Because that makes it super easy to stalk specific players. It's the perfect system for griefers...

I really think Fallout 76 will be full of vindictive griefers, making each other life hell, in the first couple of months after the launch.

I think traits being back in some form is one of the few highlights to this game. Even then, they're not true traits but "mutations". And considering Fallout 4's gameplay which they're just lifting, it'll probably only take about 2 days until I'm a PhD decorated field doctor who can trample enemies in my power armour with a minigun or some dumb shit.

A like rating for your avatar. Love it.

Well, that's both good news for TES fans and also a little depressing. I still kind've wish Van Buren had come out, even though New Vegas was great and the two are not compatible, I think I would've preferred Van Buren. Though it was never made so maybe that's just wishing for what's not there. I know I prefer Van Buren's general story though and I feel a little sad here with elements from it getting used in (seemingly) meaningless ways. Here's hoping I'm pleasantly surprised.

I also still wish Van Buren was made. Of course I would have wanted a Fallout 4 after it but Van Buren would have been a decent closure to the classic series (and if moddable could have been used to make fan expansions).

In terms of general campaign story I still prefer it over FNV even though I like FNV's general world setup.
FNV felt so small in scope compared to the setup of Van Buren. Issues such as as NCR in decline because they want to control as much as possible, the rise of the Caesar's Legion (and its rivals, the Daughters of Hecate), the conflict between the NCR and the BOS were there, but also plotlines such as assisting the Mormons of Jericho, saving a nature preservation Vault that could one day help restore the ecology of the world, meeting the Twin Mothers tribe, stopping the insane Ghoul leader of the Reservation or assisting him with his goal of achieving Ghoul dominance in the region, helping or destroying NCR prisoners on a work release program, and the major plot of stopping Dr Presper and his NCR army followers from causing a second nuclear holocaust.

I think you have raised your hopes to high for Fallout 76 to turn out to be good.

Just a reminder but doubleposts give Mods cancer and Fallout 76 is worse than licking Todd's nutsack after he has sex with Pipboy.

Yeah my hopes are pretty low, but then I may as well try to be a little optimistic for what it is. 76 will not be a good Fallout game and to be fair it's of a genre I don't personally get a lot out of but hey it might be good for what it is and for those who enjoy that kind of thing.

There are so may amazing concepts and ideas withing Van Buren, it really is unfortunate that it didn't come out. I know that there are trademark problems with Van Buren but was there any specific reason as to why Bethesda didn't use some of those ideas when making Fallout 3 or was it just that they wanted creative freedom?

1. van buren was meant to be a crpg in the style of the previous games, its ideas wouldn't work for what bethesda wanted to make. they were not experienced with this type of rpg and it would be less easily-available to the mass audience (thus making less money)
2. most people who were working on fallout 3 were new to the series and have never played the originals before so they weren't really able to work on van buren

No no, I understand that Bethesda obviously couldn't work on Van Buren, I was just unsure as to why general plot ideas were all scrapped. The scale could have been an issue but to be honest it wouldn't be that hard to keep the classic map screen system of long distance travel whilst also using the common Bethesda style for actual area gameplay. Not a big deal though I guess.
