Fallout 76

I was fine with Fallout 3, maybe because it was the first game I played and I just have fond memories of it.
It didn't feel like a money grab, to me anyway. Fallout 4 however felt a lot more like they just wanted more money out of the Fallout brand.

Fallout 3 was my first too but going back after all the other games, my best opinion of it is that they tried. They tried to make something Fallout yet something in their own style that sold well. They didn't just throw away all the Fallout material that wasn't eye catching right off the bat.
I'd rather play Fallout 3 than Fallout 4 any day. Unless I have to play Mothership Zeta.

Beth will not do anything with Fallout 76.

They don't bet on it too heavily for it to matter. People all over have basically said it now--It doesn't look good at all at to this point, and probably won't get much improvement on release. But that's exactly what Beth is betting on, or rather not at all. They can afford it. To make them change their ways, it will take the same mixed reaction to their next bigger project. Fallout 76 is not cost-intensive enough for them to bat an eye. And if it sees enough player interest, they probably will commit relatively well to it. Maybe five years down the line there will be something to talk about in F76... but I want no part in it from the before the get go.

Oh yes, in retrospect, one gotta admit that Fallout 3 had atmosphere. The problem was its writing.
When it comes to the more recent titles, I have trouble finding a particular atmosphere in it. It's in Boston, but there's nothing quite original about it. Places have the names of real places, but in the end, you could make the title take place in Delaware, and it wouldn't change much of its atmosphere.

I have the same feeling for F76. It's West Virginia, it's a lush place with mountains. But... From what we have seen, I can have the same exploration atmosphere with google maps. It lacks the distinct atmosphere that clearly, Fallout 3 had. I'm also very disappointed by the soundtrack, from what we have heard so far. Compare that to Inon Zur's work for Fallout Tactics, it had something unique in it. Here, it's just generic OST that could fit any kind of game.

I agree @Squadcar , while I personally didn't "enjoy" Fallout 3 as much as I would have liked. I do sincerely consider Fallout 3 an "attempt" as a Fallout game. I gave the title the benefit of the doubt, and while I did criticize; I still hoped for a better quality product in the future once they got into the groove.

After Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas I was honestly hoping that Bethesda would actually put some real effort into the franchise. We all know how that ended up...

There was such great potential there... Yet we are now watching the still birth of Fallout 76 while cringing. We can keep telling them they killed their franchise, but they don't care.

I think that even if the reception is poor for 76, they'll still make their money back and then some. All that pre-order, special edition, overpriced survival guide shit is only half the equation. 76 would be a good excuse to keep Fallout merch on everyone's mind. All they have to do is string people along and the cash keeps flowing.

If they get that whole aesthetic-only microtransaction thing going it's just the icing on their cake. The whole thing is designed to make money. That's what gets me the most. Their approach to game design is now the same as their approach to merchandise. The game is not even a game anymore.

And BoS to shown up in Fallout 76?
How will Beth retcons the entire universe?

BoS was the first to leave any bomb shelter and emerged as a faction. but how did they come ALL THE WAY EAST from Cali to WV?

They just called on their SatPhone and told people what logo to use, horde all the loot, and left the rest real vague so they could have a Civil War one day.

So, is anyone even gonna buy this thing? Gotta say, I feel so dettached from this one now, I even bought the 4th one supposedly to make a review of it but I even failed to have enough attachment to even do that. Also it's not even gonna be on steam so you will have to pay it with Bethesda bucks.

Some folks are quite attached to the whole thing.

I saw one channel with 900 subs, directly debunking some of the points made by Beth top executives, or lack thereof, actually, and the particular video had nearly 800 comments with like/dislike almost 50/50.

So while the community does seem quite divided, there are still those who will slurp this stuff up, buy the loot boxes and ask where's the dlc.

Still, this has to be the most backlash I've seen to date. Mind you, just till recently I was completely not involved with any of it. Now I'm actually interested to see how far this farce will go. Unfortunately for the mindful consumer, Beth is not that invested in 76. Even if it is a colossal failure, it won't mean much to them.

In the end it will not matter. This implies BoS in all games no matter what. Forever.

This has great meme potential. BoS everywhere. BoS where they should not be. BoS under the ocean. BoS in space. BoS rule Israel in 2315 and the Muslim Enclave are the only ones that can stop them. But on the horizon a new faction rises. The Knight's Templar ruled by pre-war Ghouls that were once Freemasons. Then the Aliens come down and shit really shifts to the next level.

Mr. House fulfills his dream of colonizing the stars, only to find out BoS already done it. :lmao:

I tell you man, Alien BOS will be a thing.

"These are the continuing missions of the BOS Starship Maxson, her continuing mission; to fight Super Mutants and the Enclave across the galaxy, to help the downtrodden and keep advanced technology out of their hands."

Starfield will be about the Space BOS fighting the Space Enclave on the planet where FEV came from!
