Yeah...but isnt that just the way food acted in Fallout 1 and 2?
No. The only food that healed the player were the mutated fruits - I suspect that healing the player was the result of the mutation. On the other hand Iguanas, Nuca Cola and Jerky didn't heal the player.

Healing food appeared in Fallout Craptics.

Heh, I'm not buying it either. Except that it means that I'm not going to play it.

What radio stations?

I like the idea of there being radio singals, either leftovers, or rebuilt. Considering the numbers of things that do/did get built in the Fallout world, mostly related to combat, not to mention the fact that there were limited people transmitting signals in both of the original Fallouts, I see no reason why there couldn't be some radio signals.
Hmm...
Still, IMO holotapes would be better for 20 tracks of music. To me radio should have news, auditions, etc.

Also, the jumpsuits in the original game were Buck Rogers-style tight-to-the-skin jumpsuits. These seem to be loose, modern-day prisoner-outfits.

Well, about the only thing that I find pretty neat in those screenshots, are the jumpsuits. Sure, they lack the spandex quality of the previous ones, but they're pretty good in emulating most of the 50's space-pulp magazines.
To me, the problem isn't that it's not 50's clothing. To me the problem is that it's not the Vault Suit.

Meh, I can live with that. Just like I could live with the supermutants not looking like Fallout 1 supermutants, if only they actually looked like they fit the setting.

Change isn't bad, as long as it makes sense within the basic design. This jumpsuit makes sense, per Wooz' posts.

On topic: Yeah it looks like crap. Maybe, just maybe, it'll turn out to be a somewhat enjoyable waste of time, ala tactics... but I doubt it. :(

Off topic: I don't know if this might ruffle a few feathers, but is it me or does there seem to be a large number of new members with only 1 or 2 posts defending Fallout 3, and/or telling us our opinions don't matter/we should just shut up about it? This, too me at least, sounds like bullshit? Perhaps Bethseda trying to pull some strings? Or maybe there really are stupid people in this world, and I'm just imagining things.

Oh well, long live the real Fallouts.

I just got the same feeling...but mine went further. I think some old members changed their feelings toward the changes (seemed to be hard-core fan once, now are glad with what they saw  )

I disagree. Vault Suit isn't any 50s suit. Vault Suit is Vault Suit. I would rather say that change isn't bad as long as it's neccessary or improves the gameplay within the basic design. Weird supermutants and the clothing that isn't the iconic Vault Suit is neither of those.

Changing the basic elements of the setting is bad.

The reason I hadn't posted on this thread this entire time was because after reading the magazine, a vein in my head literarilly popped and I had to attend to it, which put me out of using my computer for quite a while.

I don't think I really want to comment on what Game Informer is reporting.

Wow. What a lame way of reasoning. Wooz' post doesn't proof jack-shit. He shows you two covers of some old magazine and you're: "Okay, it makes sense now."? Try a little harder and you might find a cover of an old magazine which features an abomination that resembles the Bethesda supermutant. The costimes on the magazine covers are space-costumes. AFAIK Vaultdwellers are sorta like earthbound, yes? The blue spandex Vaultsuit is canonical. Even the guys who worked on FOT got at least that right. The Vault suit is featured in enough ingame footage (the movie at the end of FO, the movie once you complete the temple of trials, the art), to call it canonical. You guys get all 'Awww no!" when they change the PA, but when they change the Vaultsuit into something that's obviously too modern to fit the setting, you're like "Well, we dug up some magzines that have nothing to do with the Fallout universe at all, but they kinda sorta look the same, so all's well."

NO.

No, no, no.

And a spandex wouldn't be too reminiscent of modern day superheroes, because modern day superheroes wear leather/rubber/latex crap suits now.

If Lynette saw this new Vaultsuit she'd go: "This proofs nothing, dipshit."

Details? I think not.

The new vault attire is 50's, it looks like what mechanics etc would wear... But FO as we all know wasn't 50's. The Jetson's style tight fitting spandex superhero outfits really fitted in with the whole cult of the vaults and their futuristic vision. You looked totally different to the surface dwellers - more advanced/civilized - and that was entirely intentional imo.

I personally could live with this change fine if this was the sum total of their meddling, but as everything else has changed or been wrecked it as others have said, should be sneered at and consigned to the vats.

Long time reader first time poster here. So far beth is letting me down with this and I agree with most of the NMA regulars on this disaster.

This thing is like a train wreck you can't take your eyes off it, you just have to see how bad it's really going to get and know there's nothing you can do.

The point of the Vault Uniforms is that they are all the same except the number - even the Enclave has the same Uniforms as vault dwellers from the mainland.

Now, the Bethesda starts changing these very characteristic appearances of things like The Vault Suit and The Supermutants and The Power Armor.

Some change is good. For example changing place is good. Improving the Turn Based game mode is good. Making better graphics is good.
But changing something so characteristic for the Fallout setting like the Vault Suit is so wrong that I never even thought about the possibility of it being changed.

I couldn't agree more. Not every change is bad = evolution. But some core elements shouldn't be fucked with. Even if they are stylistical elements, like the suit. The more of these elements are being changed, the less the game is Fallout. :s

my brain tumor just got 2kg heavier after reading this crap...

I just can't understand why they even bothered buying fallout? It can't be for the fans, because this preview just says "fuck you and your ideas about fallout. We don't care about you, we're just interested in what the console people have to say about it. We will use the things in fallout to make what we think is right." to me...
Didn't they have enough imagination to make their own franchise..? Did they really have to take fallout, say they were fans, and then make it into a console action rpg...

If this wasn't fallout i would be slightly happy about it, because it sounds like a fucked up version fallout... or even doom3 with rpgs elements and a pause button with special attacks...

Guys... Fall 2008, they have a lot of time to make changes like "more latex, less jeans".

Well, no opinion is set in stone. If Beth releases some material which will proves our (mine, at least) thought-train is on a wrong course, hell, no reason not to change it.

But, note, these are only comments concerning what we know, and what we see. I see what i see, and fuck me with a cattle prod, i don't like it. :/

Don't believe me? See for yourself here and here, for instance.

Those magazines are 50's sci-fi, but they have nothing to do with Fallout.

Its called community management.

Last time I pointed out I suspected there were plants on the Bethesda forums I got an official warning.

Coincidence?

Why are you guys so negative?! This is exactly what's wrong with the Fallout community. Instead of looking for reasons to hate this game, why won't you look at the positive?

I wrote this article about the Fallout 3, but I don't think that you are open-minded enough, to be honest.

STOP LIVING IN THE PAST!!!

Hah, very "I told you so" there, VDweller

But I suppose you've earned that right.

Rosh hasn't. He's an asshole.

PS: still, we told you guyz during Van Buren that this might be the last chance of a decent Fallout 3, we were right there.
