its obvious that we cant return to the traditional isometric , the society changes.

Jesus Christ , under what bolder have I been sleeping these past few years...I have heard that interplay is planing a fallout 3, it's gonna be freaking rad dude. I am tiered now gonna go back to bed .

I had hopes, i must admit.... first from DaC's interview with Todd Howard where he stressed things like "take Fallout back to RPG prominence" and "doing the series justice", then the teaser which, while not really showing anything, had a nice feel to it.

Then the scans of the preview, and that was pretty much that for me. While i feel one cannot make any definite judgement without more information than what we've gotten, everything that has been shown has been very depressing :(

Actually, believe it or not, but my attempt at humor on Todd Howard's interview turned out to be amazingly accurate, which sort of dissapoints me - where as I was just poking fun, it backfired.

Hello Placid,

Welcome to the forum.
A lot of people were pretty positive in the beginning, some still are.
However the people who really wanted something like Van Buren which really seemed to recreate the classic Fallout feel in 3D were already disappointed when they heard that Bethesda, a developer not known for developing anything like the original Fallouts, are now running the project.

This is not Fallout.

"Drinking out of a toilet" to regain health if needed?

"A nuclear catapault"?

Yay. BoS is back. Originality soars.

V.A.T.S should have been vatted. Horrible idea IMO.

That supermutant just doesn't work for me.

The portion of the character creation where they have the "You're Special!" cardboard book.

Then you get a BB Gun at 10!!!

Looks like they modeled Clint Eastwood on page 55 of the scan.

I'm sorry. This looks like Oblivion with guns.

the supermutant ist just wrong... Just wrong.

It's damned Oblivion with guns, like so many predicted, now it's gotten the horrible truth...

Hi The Dutch Ghost, thank you for the welcome :)

I have been lurking here and on DaC for as long as i can remember, for any Fallout related news.

I was also very disappointed when Bethesda secured the rights for Fallout instead of Troika, but Troika could never realistically financially challenge a big company i guess.

For the longest time, things were relatively quiet, then all hell broke loose as they say, hehe. I find the latest revelations of the game to be rather disturbing (FPS view, etc, the screenshots scream "action"), but try to withhold judgement until we get a little more info. That hopefully wont be long in coming, but im not going to hold my breath :D

After getting home from work and reading the rest of these replies I find myself abit more pessimistic. Graphics infatuation has never been my main motivation for getting any game, esp. when it comes to RPGs, mainly because I value the story, combat system, and setting way more then "l33t" uber "graphix".

Its a nice layer of icing on the cake if the graphics are pleasant and realistic but that shouldn't replace the soul of the game a developer is trying to create.

I should have known from the instant they announced Gears of Falloblivionwar 3 for multi-platform that this wouldn't be the series I remembered. The teaser made me cautiously optimistic. But now I find myself stuck on the fence.

I dont mind ports of console games to the computer if they are reworked with a mouse and keyboard in mind (like KOTOR 1 or even Jade Empire). With Bioware I know those particular games had the console in mind when they were originally conceived.

I know the control setup is going to be somewhat awkward no matter how much you tweak it to a PC playstyle so I don't usually deem the control functions to the level of horrid unless they are truly beyond hope.

What I worry about is when developers take formerly known PC only games and port them or construct them with the limits placed on the Xbox 360s of the world.

Well, the Xbox 360 uses pretty much identical APIs as a mid range PC. That's one of it's biggest strengths and weaknesses.

Lets look at this another way. What about the new information DO you like?

Myself, the VATS system, what little we do know, is probably the most welcome information. It shows they're at least making an effort to bring Fallout 1 and 2's battle engine to their system. If I was going to add the tactical combat of the AP system to a modern real time RPG, I can't imagine any other way to do it, really.

It's time to just face it, Fallout as we know it is dead.

PC gaming has basically been dead since the biggest software company decided to make thier own console. (Microsoft sucks)

So the only thing that's going on here is Beth is just trying to cash in on an old title's popularity while recycling thier pre-existing software.

That's all there is to it. At least we can look forward to this project failing as so many other console based sequels to pc games already have. Anyone remember Microsoft and thier MSN Gaming Zone? Most of those pc titles got one sequel on the xbox and died.

Maybe someday the software companies other than Blizzard will understand that what works on a pc won't neccessarily work on a console, but until then...

Are you somehow trying to imply that I don't have to pay my rent, tax, electricity & gas, clothes, PC parts, holiday costs (China and France this year), games, various trips & dinner with the GF, sports, presents for my quite big family and whatnot?
We all have to make choices.
I'm just reminding it. Sometimes I just have a distinct impression that buying games became a compulsion these days. Boycotting games that have wrong design decisions, may sound like some kind of masochism or extremed when viewed outside the situation of choice among many, many, many, many, many alternatives.

Not mentioning Within Temptation: Why the heck are they between that list??
Because listening to it makes me feel better than looking at Fallout 3 screens ;) ?

Fight against piracy, then we've got a REAL representation of who plays what. Then no one will think "I've bought Fallout/ Baldur"s Gate / JA2 very long ago, but can't find the CD/CD is broken, I'll just down it". They'll have to buy it, and this will show in sales.
Yeah, and let's like, advocate making discs impossible to copy, so that people would have to pay many times for the same thing instead of making backups.

Where did I advocate making discs impossible to copy? That's useless, and I love having the right and possibility to copy optical media - it's obsolete, I use NAS.
Is this a hobby of yours, taking little undetailed information about a subject, then ranting about what you envision it represents?
You were talking about people who already paid for the licence but couldn't find their CD or their CDs got broken and you said that fighting piracy would force them to buy the game again. Preventing people from making backups would have the same effect.

Take it easy pals

What I see here is an article, some graphics and a lot of comments based on that material. Cool down pals (fans) and take a breath. If you want to make a difference then you need to organise your thoughts and actions. There are a few facts that we must take for granted:

1.) Bethesda does "elderscrolls-oblivion" kind of games mostly. Their past experience WILL show on the forthcoming F3. It's like the style of an artist - it's very hard to change.
2.) Whatever their background is, they will make an effort to make the game as good as it gets - take the best from both worlds (oblivion and fallout) if possible.
3.) Whatever they come up with ... Will you buy the game nevertheless? I know that I will.

I just have one humble request for bethesda - PLEASE please please don't create a game that doesn't run on modest hardware. Fallout has never been about graphics quality and I guess you know it well enough. If the graphics are demanding then also please add an option to downgrade the graphical detail enough to get the game running smoothly on an old PC or laptop as well.

Seriously, I am surprised that nobody picked this up. This is similar to the ATB system in the FF series, and if you take location into consideration, maybe the Grandia series as well. Throw in the "stylistic" action fights from RE 4 and we get this game.

ATB is basically Real time with pause. You are given a choice in the menu asking if you want the pause option or not. The order of the battle is calculated by AGL or SPD, and if you choose the pause option, the "timer" will stop when you choose a super move/use an item/heal/change weapons, etc. The only thing turn based about this is that people take "turns" shooting at each other.

You can't expect to be posting here for very long if you keep making retarded and very false statements like this one. The crowd for a game like the first two games is a lot bigger than just this forum.

I think that the point that is being made here is that they're not going to make a game for the hundred or so people who post HERE. Which is pretty much what it said.
In the same way that not all of the fans of Fallout post here, not all of them are crying themselves to sleep because the super mutants are big, ugly, people.
Which I think means that there are more of them than there are of you, since if they did care they'd be signing up and crying right here.

And thanks for *yet again* ignoring an argument.

I really cannot see why Bethesda making a Fallout game is the worst thing they could do. Oblivion with guns, yeah, right. All I can see is a cool looking game with guns and mutants and stuff. I can't see any mages fireballing two-headed cows, I can't see any elves shooting big scorpions with their guns. So why the Oblivion with guns deal? Oh yeah, same company. Besides, it's not as if Oblivion was the biggest pile of shit to every get played, as a matter of fact it's pretty much the opposite. Sure it got boring eventually, but that's when you made your own fun.

Way to be fans, I thought that with a sequel coming you guys would be stoked, evidently I was wrong. Would you feel better if they just copied the game? No, because they wouldn't be doing anything new with your precious fallout. So they do something new and BAM!, all of a sudden your precious fallout is weeping because it isn't a top-down game about a messed up world.
Do you know what made Fallout for me? It was the characters, the locations and the crazy encounters. I couldn't care less about how the game played because it wasn't the important part. If this game is nothing more than a glorified shooter then I'll be annoyed, but as far as I can tell that is exactly what they're trying not to do. As long as they keep the history and the style (I mean story-wise) it will be awesome.
So until someone actually gets to play the game can't we all just turn the pissing and moaning down a notch?

The alternative to Bethesda buying it was to let the license end up in one of 3 hands:

1. EA. We would have gotten Fallout Tactics 2, only with hookers. Or some mutated PA-Sports style game. You know, like Crazy Taxi with guns.
2. Microsoft. We would have gotten Fallout Arena, a Xbox 360 only FPS that takes place in a desert.
3. Take Two. We would have gotten Grand Theft Fallout. The entire game would have taken place inside one huge, barely damaged town, where you run around dealing with mutated street thugs as you try and make money for your mom's Jet habit, or something.

Despite the fact that nearly everyone here is furious about what Bethsoft is doing to our dearly beloved franchise, has anyone said anything that we'd prefer those 3 companies to do it? But don't forget that EA did redeem itself a little with CnC3. Microsoft, don't be fucking silly.

The thing is, why buy a niche franchise just to make it mass-marketable? And don't give me the "the devs are fans" argument, because that is utter crap, you don't spend over 1.5 million dollars to pretty much butcher it, why not just plagiarize, at least that would save them some money.

And just because you like to bend over and take it up the ass when a developer changes a franchise doesn't mean we have to.

And Jimminny, you're saying that because we're fans of fallout we have waived the rights to be critical of sequals? Don't be fucking ridiculous. So all the Star Wars fans which hated JarJar are not true Star Wars fans? Seems to be the same logic you apply. New is not always better, face it.

It's been said before and I'll say it again, the only way we are going to get a true sequel is if we make it ourselves.

Hey I did, but not here probably. The new AP system takes into account char stats, which makes it a bit more engaging, but you can play the game in Oblivion style too, just with guns. Really sounds FFXII.

It's a game, how can the gameplay not be the important part? Oh yeah you're another troll how fun.

Was there any way for anyone to tell that JarJar was going to be a complete retard before the movie came out? No there wasn't, but once it did everybody knew he was.

THAT'S my logic. Once the game comes out we can say, "oh boy that was crap, what the hell were they smoking?". Until then I don't see how we can proclaim it to be the biggest waste of money this side of a chocolate kettle. Since like I said, we don't actually know that much about the important side of things, like the way it actually plays, or the story.

EDIT: Just because I care more about the story, and not how well I can shoot a scorpion in the groin doesn't mean I'm a troll. It means that I didn't care that much about how I did it, just as long as I got there. The best part about the gameplay was that it didn't matter that much in the same way that good lighting in movies doesn't get noticed. It isn't there to blow you away, it's there to help you get into the story.
