it used to snow around here but it doesn't really do it all that much in recent years and when it does it rarely sticks

I love snowy cloud cover at night, the city light + the snow on the ground reflect up into the crystal-saturated sky, and create this beautiful glow, pink and golden hues, sometimes enough to really brighten up the night

My portuguese girlfriend had actually never seen anything like it (and was in fact a bit freaked out by it), which was interesting to me, because I've sometimes wondered if other phenomena can manifest in similar ways. Apparently, it's unique to arctic weathers.

Googled, and found an example:

To hell with snow. Damn useless thing.

I used to share that sentiment for many years, but lately I am growing sentimental :0
A lot of winter days will be just crappy, sludgy half-melted snow, mixed with sand and dirt and layers of carbon dust from car exhausts, it's just sheer filth. It actually is one of the things I tend to look for, when judging if movie-winter is authentic: If the snow is shitty and disgusting, then it's filmed in real winter :V

Some lucky days however, it will look absolutely postcard. The conditions will be such that every car in kilometres radius all drive on top of snow, meaning all cars have clean tires, meaning the snow remains shiny white even in the middle of trafficked roads.

My favorite winter weather is dense snowfall though, especially in the evening, when it will create the glow described above. The heavy cloud cover and the saturation of the air increases overall air pressure, and makes the air feel mild, not outright warm, but oddly comfortable, warmer than painfully cold

We had like a few snowflakes that melted before they hit the ground two weeks ago, but now we're back to >10°C and some rain at most. Considering that we had barely any rain for the past 8 months or so, I'm fine with that. Autumn is now a bit later than it used to be.

Might as well jump right into posting things.

Forecast called for "light snow" overnight and now the ground is completely white. I'd hate to find out what these meteorologists predict as "heavy snow." Also, we've had 20 and 60 degree F weather, snow and rain all in the same week.

I've seen the similar effect around here - but it is obviously far weaker in comparison to this pic. Still pretty bright tho.
I love walking at nights like that. But moonlit snow with no artificial light is the best thing ever.

Ha ha! Surveillance equipment in a vacuum cleaner? Da Faq? I knew I disliked that Shop-Vac in the garage for a reason!

Maybe his country has simply turned really gay? I mean the literal country, not the people.

He's from Norway, the black metal capital of the world. His nation has finally become one with that Slayer record, "Raining Blood".

Btw we often have a blood red sky like that here. I thought it's a feature and not a bug.

I like metal, rap and country, and folk, and some pop, and jazz, oh and blues :v

I don't mean to come off as condescending though, you like what you like, but I've always tried to find quality in most genres. The vast majority of music I come across strikes me as low-to-medium effort, but if there is real effort, real talent, the actual genre no longer matters.
To be perfectly fair though, the number of country tunes I've genuinely liked are few and far between, but some are really good. I once came across an instrumental bluegrass tune I could not get enough of, but I've since lost it. Other unlikely super-favorites have been examples of Jewish klezmer music, Saami folk-pop, Hindu chants as well as Ulali (native american band specializing in pre-colombian tunes, in particular Mahk Jchi)

(edited, favorite version)

Mutantscalper, ever heard of Mari Boine?

I've always found fascinated the "tribal sound" that unites styles across continents. Well, instruments play a role, I guess, such as often resorting to drums made from available animal skins, as well as emulating heart-beat rythms

I like old rap, new stuff is just annoying for some reason. Old rap songs actually had messages, they meant something, commentaries on society and people. These days rap is just throwing swear words to the wind and how badass I am.

Metal is my favorite genre still. But I do enjoy music from very different genres.
I enjoy classical music, I enjoy some The Beatles songs, I enjoy Rock'n Roll (do not confuse with Rock), I enjoy Hard Rock, I even enjoy the Portuguese genre Fado. There are other stuff I enjoy, but I am in a hurry and I can't really remember it at the moment.

I even enjoy the Portuguese genre Fado.

Is that you getting old? :V
Haven't heard much, but there's some real passion in Fado that's not difficult to enjoy

In contrast, have a taste of some real Norwegian folk:

Talk about aquired taste :I There is an intensity there though, and the theme of the song (and title) refers to the devil enchanting a party with his epic fiddle-play.
Fan is still a cussword, to this day.

THIS however is pure gorgeousness, it's a "lokk", litterally a "lure" - it is the stylized form of milk-maid calling songs for the cows in the mountains
(the song's title is "come now")

(oh and, granted you are right about old vs new rap, with new rap being mostly just aggro posturing - but don't you just love Hit 'em up? :D Come on, admit it! :D)

I actually do like some rap and country, but those are also few and far between. Pink Floyd is probably at or near the top for me in favorite bands. I enjoy a bit of Eminem's older stuff and a couple of his newer songs, granted if I ever hear that Killshot song again it'll be too soon.

I think I have heard the name but haven't really listened to the music.

On a different note, here's a Sami rapper, Amoc. :D I like how he sounds pretty angry and raps in Sami language.

Edit. Ok this one has Sami lyrics.

And Zegh, about those folk-song, that's exactly the kind of music Norwegian and Swedes do really well, they are so technically good etc. They 'get it', us Finns are a little too much 'yokels' for that type of music. We try to make up for our technical deficiencies with pure animalistic rage. :D
