General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Can only find a mod that ports Doom 3 weapons to Doom 2 for some reason, machine gun looks pretty cool all pixelly.

Looks like yer stuck with the melted plastic machine gun for the duration.

Yeah, i really dislike how the assault rifle looks like a toy, but i suppose it cant be helped.

@ Mobucks, agreed, too bad my pc cant quite handle the parallax occlusion so i had to turn it down. Might have something to do with me having an ATI card, which apparently depending on the model might have trouble with the effect.

I bought a copy of Strider 2 of the PSX a couple of weeks ago and I have been playing that from time to time.

Don't let the simplicity of the game on Youtube make you think it's easy, it can be old school hard and if you are planning to finish it without using a continue it will require quite some skills.

Strider 1 that also came with it is sometimes even harder.

Well I managed to beat the first fighter in Score Attack Mode in Persona4 Arena twice, but the second one keeps wrecking my shit.

Been rocking Company of heroes for a few days now. Awesome game but the multiplayer part looks boring and i'm getting tired of the single player part . Not sure what i should play now :/

Trying to stay awake through Little Big Planet. The story mode feels like a hipster-made platformer and the loose controls are driving me fucking nuts. I really hope it gets better because I don't think I'll like building shit with a playstation controller either.

Finding a chum to team up with on multiplayer is pretty fun, even against armoured car rushing a.i.

Or you can always play Deus Ex (and at the moment of reading this some people feel like installing and play Deus Ex again)

Well if you like platformers you can always play Bionic Commando Rearmed.

I recommend what I'm playing: Jagged Alliance 2 (With your preference in mods, of course. I'm using one of the newer 1.13 versions with HAM5).

Looked into it early 2000 and during the steam sale but i never got an urge for it.

Finished Deus ex like 20 times

Really? it's pretty rad for squad based turnbased tactics. Potentially, it's the raddest. Especially with the continuously developed 1.13 mod. I've been playing with some of the new features like tripwire networks and explosives

It's the way of the genre to attract the worst fanbases. I'm just saying I saw more nice people in LoL than in DOTA, in which meeting anybody that wasn't a pixel-addled maniac was an even in itself. I got pretty bad feedback about HoN, so I never played it. I'm pretty casual when it comes to MOBAs anyway, just a couple of games from time to time. I'll definitely try out DOTA once (if? it's Valve after all) it comes out.
Don't give DotA 2 a try because it's Valve. Give DotA 2 a try because it's IceFrog. That man is THE reason DotA's interpretation of ARTS became a genre, and THE reason the bastards at Riot decided to invent their own genre and label it with the lamest acronym ever conceived.

Also you can't really say that DotA 2 HASN'T "come out" yet, because it's really only beta in name only. Yeah, you either have to "wait in line" to get in, or fork over $30 to skip the line and start playing now, but there's so many invites floating around, it really doesn't take long to get in. Granted, I'm not saying it ISN'T a barrier and I'm not blind that it isn't fully open, just saying it's not a true "closed beta" either. Not to mention the very nature of DotA is to forever be in a state of constant-progress. They'll wait a little while longer before they say it's finally "ready", but it'll always be changing, ever-so-slightly, on a regular basis. Always for the sake of perfection.

I play it very irregularly, where 3 times a day for more than 3 days a week is "high activity" for me, so not like your activity preference can't be accommodated by the present form of the game. =)

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I could give an honest shit about voice acting for quest mods in Bethesda games.

A talking head, here and there, is fine. The same basement dweller used for 3000 NPCs, like in the vanilla games, i'll pass.
Just making sure I'm not misinterpreting what you're saying... You mean you WOULD like to see such mods that actually provide colorful and distinct, well-acted voices to its added content? Or that the blandness of the base game's lack of variety has poisoned your desire to see ANY more voices added to it? I'm fairly certain the majority sides with the notion that "voices aren't important for the game, who cares about voices?" so it should be the former... But again, just making sure. <_<

Absolutely give it a chance. LBP was a title I picked up solely out of peer pressure and promises, and I felt let down at the start, as well. Yeah, the opening was cute, creative, and amusing, and the idea certainly seemed to have some promise. But it just didn't grab my attention like I thought I was promised it would, and I put it down after just a couple days. Then when I decided to dedicate myself to trophy hunting and I returned to LBP, after spending some quality time with it, and finally FINISHING the story, I was absolutely wowed. The platforming elements are top notch, the bosses range from mundane to quite thrillingly challenging, the mood is palpable, and as it's a PS3-exclusive, the visuals never disappoint. And that's not even saying anything of the user-made content! That game really provides INFINITE possibilities, and I had a blast making my own levels for a long time.

It takes some getting used to, but once you make it past that one and only genuine hurdle, it's nothing but awesome. And really, that's how all games used to be, "back in the day", and if it means reclaiming that sensation of playing a worthwhile title amidst a see of disappointing mediocrity at the cost of adjusting for a little while, then why the hell not??? That's an abysmally tiny price to pay for such an amazing ride! =D

Finished "Bully"
Quite a funny game, very similar to GTA, so much so, it's almost a clone, albeit much more light-hearted, but again, very similar, same kind of cut-scenes, dialogue, humor etc.
I find it refreshing to not kill people all the time, but merely beat them up, or give them wedgies.
I try to be a champion for the weak, but every now and then I have to assert myself, and beat the snot out of everyone within a certain radius.
But, to be honest, the more I play this, the more I wish I hadn't uninstalled GTA long ago.

All in all, a fun game.

I don't think it's fair to call a game made by the people who make GTA a GTA clone.

Why not?
It's not like I wasn't aware, the Rockstar logo appears a whole number of times during game startup.
If I make a clay sculpture, then make one exactly like it, I would gladly consider the 2nd sculpture a clone of the first, even if I created both.

Because it's only as much of a GTA clone as Red Dead Redemption is?

I haven't tried Red Dead. Why are you nitpicking about this? You know I didn't use the word "clone" litterally, look for yourself
almost a clone
You wanted to let me know Rockstar made both games, explaining why they are similar. I allready knew, but used the word "clone" to describe how staggeringly similar they were. That's all. Move on...

X-COM: Enemy Unknown. And it is glorious. I actually finished the game at Normal, which was pretty easy. Trying at Classic now, and if the battle in the field go pretty well (only lost 4 people so far), the panic management is a pain. I get one abduction mission after the other, not enough engineers to build satellite uplinks, and so at the end of the current months no less than 5 countries risk breaking away. Where are Terror and Council missions, you know, those that actually drop panic? Come on game!

Still, it's as fun as turn-based tactics get. Enemies are varied and pretty smart, none feel overpowered. Balance does get out of whack later on, Snipers especially enter godmode once they get Double Tap and plasma rifles, and in the early game nothing but the RNG can save you when you are lucky to get 50% hit chance, but still. Very fun.
