General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I've been running through Doom Complete (every OG Doom wad and their expansions) with Doom RLA and Monsters, Damage Numbers, Legendoom Lite, and HD textures. I'm at the 4th episode so far. After the Spider Mastermind in Inferno, I was nearly out of ammo and life. The first two levels in Thy Flesh Consumed start off with no health packs, no ammo, and hordes of bad guys up in your shit. Even with a Quad Shotgun and Uzi I was making every shot count. Picking the recon guy lets me double jump so I get to "cheat" through some levels. I call that a roguelike feature. I'm thinking by the time I get to TNT I will be begging for a class change though. I used some cybernetic armor that I can't take off and I keep running into high level armors. It's mainly hard due to the new monsters and the experience of going into each level one after another, as opposed to playing each episode individually.

Just finished Metroid Prime 2 Echoes again.

I don't recall some of the boss patterns, perhaps that is something unique to the trilogy. And that last boss, I remember that he was a bit of a pain but he was really strong now or my reflexes have deteriorated.

And the backtracking... the damn backtracking.
I am rather a stickler for 100 percent endings but I couldn't find that last damn missile expansion for hours until I consulted an item guide.
And then for some reason the damn screw attack didn't want to work.

Played a whole slew of games recently.

Borderlands 2

The game's balance is fucked. Do not do the DLC's before the main story, and don't go looking for golden Shift Key's either. The game never felt right after I did two headhunter DLC's and gained a few levels that I was not supposed to. I was always a few levels ahead of the games areas and none of the weapons ever felt useful so it ruined the looter aspect.

Darksiders

Fun hack and slashing game with puzzles. However the end of the game is nearly all puzzles and one of the puzzles was such a timeconsuming piece of shit and when I had to redo it combined with another puzzle I just quit the game. War, the player character, is scapegoated as responsible for breaking a pact that kept the balance at bay. Causing the war between heaven and hell to play out before it was supposed to, ground zero being modern earth. Now he has to go after big baddie while having to strike deals with demons who should not be trusted. War really doesn't seem to give a shit about anyone but his own self and really don't care who he offends with anything he says. Interesting character to play as.

Evil Within

If you want REvil 4 but without the cheese then this game is for you. Chapter 6 starts out with you having to defend a companion disarming explosive traps while being rushed by enemies who you have to kill and it is such a revoltingly badly designed event that is excessively difficult for where it is in the story that after failing half a dozen times I thought about just how many more times I would have to do this over and over again until pure luck would allow me to succeed and I put down the game. I don't need to play games that are badly designed and won't allow me to progress until I eat a plate of shit. It was fun up until that point though. But because I only made it to Chapter 6 out of 15 chapters I didn't get far enough into the story to really tell you what it is about. REvil 4 is pretty simple. You've arrived at a village where some form of mutation has kicked into make people monstruous and you're here to rescue the presidents daughter. There is a clear setting, a clear enemy, a clear motivation and destination to give you reason to move forward. Evil Within on the other hand is a mindfuck for the sake of being a mindfuck. All I got from it was that some patient zero got shared collective consciousnesses and got godlike powers that allow them to manipulate reality around you. But it's all so random. You're thrown from one setting to the next without any reason. There's no clear idea in mind for enemies and why they are the way they are. One moment they're tortured psychopaths. The next they're zombies. The next a lady with as many arms as a spider and can teleport hunts around for you. The next they're invisible. I just turned my brain off and enjoyed the survivalism aspect of it without paying much attention to it.

Darksiders 2 (currently playing)

Completely different from Darksiders 1. It's now an action RPG with a leveling up system, side quests and open world exploration and it takes place in a fantasy setting whereas its predecessor took place in a postapocalytic earth. It's puzzles are also far more oriented around orientation rather than puzzle solving. Death in contrast to War is a lot more personable. He's far more interested in just clearing his brother's name (War) but for being the horserider of death he's quite friendly. Blunt as fuck about what he feels, but there's a clear soft spot in him. Makes me wonder why he even cares about his brother who just seems like a moody dick.

Use the crossbolt to flash them when they bunch up. There is also barrles and suchs to use. It was a struggle on the 1hit kill difficulty but with some know how it should be a lot easier on the normal ones. I didn't use a lot of flashbolts and suchs the first time due to fockusing on headshots with pistol etc.

Also the monsters
are pretty much in your head. You are connected to the stem thingy after all

I removed the game from my Steam so I won't be finishing it. :V

I've realized that one thing that serves to fuel my constant anxiety is my backlog. So anything I play I ask myself "Would I play this again?" and if the answer is no then I'd rather lighten a fraction of my anxiety than to keep a game around that I will never play again because I paid for it.

Also, it's a strange thing to explain but I have a very very low tolerance for bullshit in video games at this point. I've played so many over 2 decades that if a game throws some bullshit my way then I'd rather just get rid of it. I got tons of awesome games that I want to replay but can't because I've made up my mind to get through the damn backlog. And for me, that moment was a load of shit. I had used up most of my parts on other arrows for previous things so I wouldn't have been able to craft a whole lot of flash arrows anyway, so I doubt it would have made much of a difference.

The reason I think it is bullshit is because the game never forced this kind of situation on you before. Learning curve and all that. It also didn't try to tell me that this was a thing that was going to happen so save resources or at the very least offer a bunch of items at the burning house so a player can survive the thing. They had already decided that enemies on Survival was going to take a couple of headshots to take down and that a power arrow or explosive arrow might not be enough to kill one and shotguns at point blank range at what is essentially starting enemies will not instakill. And that's fine. Just don't spawn enemies like crazy. As far as I saw in youtube videos the C4 deactivation is based on time, not number of bdsm fetishists killed. So even if you perform well it is irrelevant as the more ammo you waste the less you have to last you. If it had been based on time OR number killed it might have been fairer. And the level design for the thing is just too claustrophobic. It did not have to be that tiny of an area. If these things can run, hurt like a motherfucker, can initiate cutscene kills on you that you have no chance of escape and then spawn 5 of them in a claustrophobic space; That's when I call bullshit. When I die half a dozen times over because the game is quite frankly horribly designed at this area then that's my breaking point. I will not die half a dozen times more. I'm done. This is bullshit, and I'm done. I'm moving on to a game that hopefully will not throw bullshit in my face.

Maybe if I had more parts to create flash arrows it wouldn't have been so bad, but how was I supposed to know that my chance of survival was based on one specific weapon's alternate ammo?

Besides, the game up until that point had just been nice. Not great or anything above, just nice. So did I want to push through this hold your ground scene for that? For a game that is just nice and nothing else? Nah. The game's not worth it.

And yeah it wasn't a ragequit. I sat there for a good whole calculating things in my head as to whether or not it was worth it. In the end I decided to quit and remove the game. It wasn't a spur of the moment decision. I just really really hated that part of the game and wish a plague upon its lands and the death of its firstborn son. And now I never have to look at the thing and wonder "should I?" It's a load off my mind.

I've been going through my steam and deleting a ton of stuff from my account. I wish I could just do something else with them. Like in days of old when you could put your console games or whatever in a bundle and sell them online. Or hell, just 'give' them to someone else. Look at my friends list and see who wishlisted it and give it to them instead. But, yknow, can't. So deleting is the only option. I tried creating a trash category and chuck everything in there but it didn't work. Still giving me anxiety.

I get what you mean, I also have a shitload of games that I will probably never get back to or even start on in the first place.
And currently I am looking at new games to buy and the question pops up in my mind again "Will I actually be playing these games?"

I can't even look at new games to buy or even browse sales anymore. That's how I got this backlog to begin with.

Oh and at the moment I'm replaying Fallout 4 (casually, just when I'm bored, not planning to invest into it) with naughty mods because why not? And the more serious game is Dishonored 2 and... Does it, does it fuck with anybody elses eyes? Cause I have a hard time looking at the game. I played Prey, nu-DOOM and Borderlands 2 + PreSequel just recently and I had no problems with those games but with Dishonored 2 my eyes feel sick looking at it. It's like my eyes can't focus on anything on the screen. Like when I turn around and check through the scenery then my eyes feel fixated on a point and having to tear it off of that point is disorienting. I have no idea what's going on with it. I'm feeling a slight bit of this in Fallout 4 when I first started it up again two days ago but my eyes are adjusting to it. Dishonored 2 it... I don't think I can play it. There's something wrong with it. My eyes don't feel like they're spinning room drunk with any of the other first person games.

Does anyone have problems with their eyes when playing Dishonored 2? Not necessarily the same problems I do, just, does your eyes feel weird? It's so hard to explain how it feels so I guess the clearest and simplest way is to say that I find it disorienting. Does anyone else find it disorienting?

Out of curiosity I decided to tally the games I have left to play in my Steam list alone:

I just want to play Fallout 1 and 2 again... God I hate this fucking anxiety. I might just purge some of these without even playing them. 45 games, 45 fucking games. If each game took around 10 hours to complete then that would be 450 hours. If I play 6 hours a day then it'd take me 75 days straight. And that's if the games average to 10 hours a game (which they won't, it'll likely be way higher) and if I play for straight 6 hours and do nothing else with my time.

Are any of these games absolute trash that I could probably remove without even playing them?
/SPOILER]

Go and play the KOTOR games. Get the unofficial patches and "The Sith Lords Restored Content" for KOTOR II.
They are a bit clunky but who cares. :V

Now I feel like playing them, but I already played them many times before.

I have a decent sized backlog too but I don't feel the urge to play every single thing on there. I just pick whatever seems to be the most interesting to me at the time and go with it. And repeat.

I know I'm seeing it differently than you. But maybe it'll help to just play what currently interests you? I've owned some games for years but only recently played them because they finally interested me enough. Now, I only buy games at full price/near full price if I fully intend on playing it all the way through now. Otherwise, I wait for a sale and even then I consider how soon I will play the game.

I get the idea of, "Oh I want this and this and I always wanted to check out this. Oh, I heard this is really good." and before you know it you've spent like 50 bucks on 10+ games or something. But if you think about it, the sale you're spending money on is you buying it now when it could go even cheaper later on. The worst thing that can happen is the game being delisted and no longer sold but that's fairly uncommon/rare to happen anyway. Steam and GOG both have numerous sales throughout the year and at least two huge ones (summer and winter) so it's not like a sale won't come back around for most titles.

It's not trash. It's simply Star Wars schlock. If that is your thing, go for it. If you expect some very sophisticated writing and intricating plot lines? Then stay away from it. Yes Kotor 2 did a much better job here when it comes to some of the characters. But Kotor 2 also feels like a game with a lot of cut and unfinished content and Kotor 1 is maybe not a very deep experience but one with a clear start and ending. So there is that.

That's what I've always heard as well but I believe what Crni's saying.
From what I understand KOTOR 1 is Star Wars in a new setting. KOTOR 2 is Star Wars norms/tropes being challenged and discussed. That doesn't make KOTOR 1 bad, it just makes KOTOR 2 exciting.

I plan on playing these after DS II and waiting for another sale on DS III (and having expendable money myself).

KOTOR1 is fine. Not the best written RPG for sure, but far from bad. It has a couple of great twists to it.

Kotor 1 is a Star Wars game with RPG elements that's what it is. It offers you alternatives between being a good Jedi or playing a bad one, basically becoming a Sith lord of sorts sometimes really hitting you over the head with it. And it is really doing a decent job in satisfying the power fantasy of playing those roles. Like what it is to be a powerful force user in a Star Wars setting. But that's really it. It will not offer you anything else really. And I have to say if you can accept that you will have a ton of fun playing around with that premise because considering the setting it is well written. You can turn evil in a few cases, betray and even kill some of your companions and there are a few neat plot twists around that part. Like Atom said, yeah it's not Arcanum or Fallout 1 level of role playing and moral dilemmas. But if you like Star Wars chances are very high you will enjoy playing it. And you can get probably both games dirt cheap right now. So there is nothing to lose really.

Only way to get rid of this part of my anxiety is to get this over with. This backlog started tallying up back in 2011. I have to work on it. And some of these games I bought on a whim or because they were on sale or because at the moment I was in the right kind of mood as the planets had aligned just perfectly. I can't play what I want because that means going back to older games and that will put off the backlog even longer. Which means I'll keep feeling this high tension anxiety that I'm putting something off. If I want to keep gaming (and I do) then I have to get through this.

Besides, Most of the games I play I either decide to call quits on relatively early so I don't waste too much time on them or I have a grand time all the way through. So it's not like I'm not enjoying myself at all. I don't mean to blow it out of proportion or anything, my life isn't in constant panic-mode. But it's bad enough that I want to get rid of the source of it as soon as possible.
