Main enemy for F03....

I'd like the main boss to be something new, an alien is a good idea, maybe a shapeshifter like the kind in the X-files, possibly one that took the identity of a top government figure and ignited WIII...ooo conspiracy :) those are always fun haha.

Whatabout a really big tank holding someone really important to the enemy?

Or how about this: There's different last bosses depending on which path you take (Using the Karma system)?

Yes, the original vault dweller is now a criminal mastermind that has been kept alive in a tank of bio-gel, genius! :D

My GOD, I hope you are being sarcastic.

In any case, that is an awful idea.

I'd prefer something involving the BoS but with you as always the Outsider. Maybe a civil war that you have to take a side in?

I think we've established a factions idea isn't so great.

I don't think it should be as shallow as "Be on the bad side you face [insert the good guy bigg'n here] and if you're on the good side you face [whoever the main bad guy is here]."

It should be more deep than that. You have a variety of quests that effect your Karma. Depending on which one you do, not how much it effects your Karma, will judge which boss you'll meet. And if you take one path throughout the game but decide you don't want that path's boss, your actions can still effect which boss you get even if you're almost at the end.

But the thing is about this thread and why it isn't feasable to make an end boss is because of the fact that we don't know what FO3 is about. Where do we start? Why are we leaving our home? These are questions we need answered before we can guess anything on the game.

As for the Brotherhood, I believe they should be involved somehow, most definitely. They kick ass.

beginning of the game vault city redding and san fran vs all other towns from fallout 2 and 1 exept the hub thats destroyed and arroyo is nutral and then fallout tactics bos vs fallout1,1 boz

Although it could be terrible if done poorly, I think that the aliens from Fallout 2 could make a decent "bad guy" in Fallout 3.

They could originate from a planet with a highly radioactive atmosphere, therefore making post apocalyptic earth a perfect colony. Furthermore earth is largely lifeless and ready for new tenants to move right in!

Fallout 3 would take place just before the main invasion, your overall aim (though you do not discover it until later on in the game) being to prevent it.

They could remain largely in the backdrop until the latter stages of the game, the protagonist encountering them with increasing frequency.

Inside that framework, a multitude of things could be done.

Like I said, it could be terrible, but could work if well executed.

EDIT: forgot to mention that the aliens encountered in Fallout 2 would have been a scouting force. A nice touch would be for it to be explained to the protagnist near the end of the game that the invasion had been set back when the matriarch sent to lead the scout force was destroyed. This would explain the infestation of Wanamigo mine.

Ack.

No.

The aliens in Fo2 were the most bizarre fuckup in the entire game.

I agree in the sense that their presence wasn't explained at all.

Any further inclusion in the Fallout universe would be shaky territory I agree, I was just throwing out ideas.

Maybe they're not aliens at all but a subterranean creature that evolved that emerged into the world because of the radiationa nd from that point on could live on land?

A kind of a copy from my post to gamefaqs. Go ahead use it if you want.
Plot suggestion.
(after the intros and the ´war, war never changes´ thing,)
Start a new game: a movie.
You are in a vault resupply depot, you ether broke in or you were one of the rich ones you are leaded in the cryogenic wing (like in F2, Sierra Army Depot, Level 4 Bio Research Bay), but because of an accident, you can't use `your´ own cryogenic sustaining tube, it's broken so you have to use someone else's tube.

Now the game begins:
you won't get to make your char, you won't have even an inventory, there is 5 choices (you can read the tube sending addresses and you can swish them, changing some of the new worlds heroes, just like you)
-you can go to a empty, but damaged tube(and you will become a ghoul),
-or take one of the occupied tubes and kill the (wo)man inside,(the future's celebrities, which are adaptations of today's ones.
(ps: Michael Jackson))

(a movie based on your choice of tube)
you go to a sleep, the tubes are closed and frozen,
the tubes are transferred to 5 different vault's,
in 4 of the 5 vaults something horrible happens,
you are mutated, infected, and/or dissected and remade into 4 different races by the ultimate evil(you can see how the change happens, the one vault is attacked by mutated animals (the where you stay as a human), the tubes are opened something like 140-240 years after the great war.
(all in about the same time)
(the movies end)

So now you get to make your char, or take one of the pre-made ones(of each race have few) and after you ether escape or leave the place you have been bring into (5 different ones), you are given a mission to save the world for your race (only), all the races(humans, ghouls, super mutants, deathclaws(inserted whit your human brains), and a more modifiable humanoid robots (whit a human consciousness inserted into cyborg brain) have more than one base/city, so they each have their own and shared communities, and lots of quest's, although you can't solve them all in one play trough, some are, on the opposite sides, the ultimate evil side has many small bases including the ones the experiments are made in. (all the sides are nearly equal in playability, the ghouls can use power armor, the robots can bye perks from AI store; basically a computer, super mutants have more than a few armor types, deathclaws have their own way of doing things, stealth and blowing up some nukes etc.)

Middle: you can battle with and make peace treaties between the cities and the races, you get to meat the other `chosen´ones (they aren't called that, (ps: a ghoul or a super mutant Michael Jackson)), you can kill, join or ignore them according to the side you want to choice and you can even betray your own races side, like in F1, whit becoming a super mutant, but it don't change the race you are (and the game continues), you can even kill every one, and be happy for it. (and be the destroyer of world)

End: you solve some of your races missions, and some of the others, the last mission is to kill the ultimate evil, an enclave bishop, BOS general(from FT BOS, or the old ones in F1) or an alien mother in desgise, or some thing like that, that made it all starting things happen. Thought, if you don't want to kill the ultimate evil, you can join whit him/her and kill all the other faction leaders. (Ghouls, humans, super mutants, raiders, reavers, robots, NCR president, etc., taught some of them can to be killed already in sub missions), in the end you can even betray the ultimate evil. After the end cinematics, you can continue to play the game.

In the destroyer of the world end, once every one is dead, an enhanced random encounter happens,it's an ant, and if you
don't kill it at the first round it has only 1hp, it hits and kills you, and a end narration begins which says some thing like `just like dinosaur's reign of the world, the human's, ends in defeat and the new master races are insects. Let us belive it will be a better.´
If you kill it, it will re-happens again, again, again, etc. in the next random encounters.
The End.

What about a resurgent Chinese threat coming down from Canada? China certainly would still have people around, and as the Shi proved, they wouldn't necessarily be low-tech.

I think a Chinese remnant threat would be a cool idea for FOT3. They could have survived the war with their "Enclave" intact and could have continued R&D on technology to counter the powersuit. And then they would have come up with some sort of Death Ray (see old B movies) to destroy the US. First you would have to stop their invasion, and you would have to fly a jet which you fixed up to China and destroy it, along with their base of technology (all the computers and stuff).

Wow, that was long and drawn out...I guess i just spiralled out of control and the mind track  take all with a grain of salt.

Come to think of it, why should there be a final boss?

I mean, in Fallout 1 battling the Master and the Lieutenant was completely optional, you didnt have to do it, if you didnt want to.

Frank Horrigan was fun, as the final boss, but the lack of a peaceful way to end the game (no, recruiting Granite and turning the Autocannons on Horrigan is not what I call peaceful), like setting up the bomb and getting to the tanker around the main exit (like the air ducts or similiar), or following the villagers.
