Megamod 2.35 technical issues and suggestions

Crash

Played the previous version of the megamod with no issues but since then I've replaced a hard drive and figured it'd be a good time to start it up again. Installed the megamod onto a fresh copy of F2, ran the .bat, created a character and after the opening videos the screen pulls up my character standing in front of the Temple and then crashes to desktop with the following:
"A privledged insturction was executed at address 1000399d
Click on OK to terminate the application"

Advice?

Well... that's new. Never heard of that one before. Maybe there is something in sfall disagreeing with your setup. Open up your ddraw.ini file and find this:

;Set to 0 for 8 bit fullscreen
;Set to 4 for dx9 fullscreen
;Set to 5 for dx9 windowed
;A dx9 mode is required for any graphics related script extender functions to work (i.e. fullscreen shaders)
;Modes 1, 2 and 3 are no longer supported
Mode=4

and change that Mode=4 to Mode=0 to make sure it isn't fighting with the weather mod.

This error happens even before you step into the temple? Just out of curiosity, are you running Windows Vista?

Before I can even move my mouse within the game it crashes, and no. I use XP on this PC due to the issues vista's given me in the past.

I honestly don't know what is going on, then. Try removing both the ddraw.dll and ddraw.ini file. Move them to a different folder temporarily, just to see if it is something else in those files. I really am guessing here. There is nothing else I can think of.

That actually did it, though is removing the ddraw going to have any drastic effect on gameplay or just make it less pretty?

Sounds to me like an sfall bug somewhere in one of the fallout<->sfall interfaces. Something like that should effect everyone though, not just one person...

Have you modified ddraw.ini at all from the defaults? Does replacing ddraw.dll with the newest copy from sfall fix it?

Edit: The biggest effect of removing ddraw.dll is that any scripts that use the extended script functions wont run. I've no idea how extensive a use the megamod makes of them though. You'll also lose some bugfixes, the mouse wheel and middle mouse button, but they aren't vital.

I hadn't modified at all no, and I just tried the newest version of ddraw.dll and it popped up with the same message.

I haven't made much use of the extended functions that Timeslip mentioned... not yet, that is. Basically, if you want to see what effects it will have on your game by not having those files, just take a look at the .ini file to see what fixes/options were enabled.

Then if no-one else is having the same problem, maybe there's something else interfering. Anti-virus or very badly written firewall maybe? I'm not really sure what else to suggest.

Yeah, it's the first time I ever heard of an error like this. That's what I was guessing: that there is something else interfering with your work. Odd, though, that this hasn't come up before given all the other times it's been downloaded.

Guess I'll work on it when I have the time, thanks for the help guys, didn't expect to get that much assistance that quickly.

I'v got that error before. You must change in ddraw render mode to 0 (8bit) it works for me.

My question: is there any possibility tu run weather mod in " mode 0 "?. Changin to mode 4 or 5 five crashes the game (tried on multiple installs and configurations in ddraw.ini)

That exact error, about the privileged instruction, or just a generic crash? Modes 4 and 5 rely on the presence of a DX9 capable graphics card, among other things, so there's plenty of extra reasons why you might not be able to use them. (Edit: The most common being that your DirectX installation is out of date. You need one that includes d3dx9_30.dll)

Nope. Mode 0 turns off sfall's graphics functions, which makes using a mod that relies entirely on sfall's graphics functions rather difficult. :P

I think that might just be a general error message. Also, he said earlier that he tried that.

Just tried it, unfortunately it popped up with the same error.

Timeslip is the expert on helping you to get that weather mod working. I hope she can help.

Oh snapz! :D Thats weird my Gf 9600 is capable to DX 10 (so 9 too). Tried fev nvidia drivers, still no effect. (using win xp 32bit).
HiRez patch, can turn 16bit mode on, but DX9 mode also hangs the game... dunno.
Tomorrow I will try reinstall DirectX :>

Hey Timeslip: Did you see my suggestion earlier in this thread? About adding an option in sfall to make critters drop their weapons when killed? Is it possible??
