Morrowind thread!

My Morrowind doesn't work even with no mods installed. Steam is shitty when it comes to old games.

If my game start working, what mods do you recommend for a first (kinda) playthrough?

Just a few mods to correct the biggest flaws of the game and give me a better experience in general while staying close to the original experience. I'm not really looking for quest mods.

I was thinking about the graphic overhaul and the Less Generic NPCs ones for now. I also remember hearing about an overhaul to the leveling system, but I don't know much about it.

There's still a lot... Look up top mods to improve Morrowind. Pick and choose from there.

Probably, but there's more charm in derailing a thread that is not talking about Morrowind. This one has been left in peace for a while now.

Why not bring it back?

Favourite faction?
Out of the Great Houses, Redoran. Sure they were traditionalists who tend to be more directly violent at times but at least I could trust them to not stab me in the back. They'd pay the Morag Tong to stab me in the front instead. Hlaalu would bankrupt me and Telvanni would be far more creative in making life a living hell. Plus their player home was a small village rather than some large house. I wish more could have been done with it.

As for guilds, Morag Tong. It's nice to play an assassin guild with an official license to kill though Mages Guild is a strong contender for good guild.

My favourite faction is a tossup between the Hlaalu (massive hypocrites who rely on trade, spying and politics? Yes please.) and the Tribunal (alien religion based off the worship of three living gods? Yes please.)

willing to work with the Imperials
Then again, Morrowind is a lot like a British Empire colony from what I recall so it would be far more profitable to cooperate with the people in charge.

Tribunal (alien religion based off the worship of three living gods? Yes please.)
And let's not forget the religious indoctrination and persecution! :ok:

Telvanni all the way, they have the most interesting counsel imo. And I enjoy the quest structure as well.
One thing I found interesting about the Telvanni is how open they are to schemes, manipulation and conspiracies to murder as long as you can get away with it. They don't actually begrudge you for outright murdering faction leaders as long as you can pull it off.

The way they value capability is unique to say the least.

Another reason I like Haalu is because they're willing to work with the Imperials and they're the rightful rules of Vvardenfell.
But all they care about is money and being homoerotic. I would rather be in the old people group who are the most powerful wisards. Something about men kissing men turned me off of them, but, to each their own.

homoerotic
That's ONE guy... a very... beautiful... guy...

But seriously, they hold the strings of power. They hold control of most of the plantations, they own the throne and they have the best trading relationships with the Empire. The Empire outright ignored House Redoran with the Caldera mining contract, yet what Hlaalu says goes.

They also have the Fighter's Guild in their grip.

Who is also the least corrupt member of the House Hlaalu. His quests often involve defeating corruption in some form or another.

As an aside, it seems that three of the Great Houses all have representatives here at the moment. 1 Hlaau, 1 Redoran, 1 Telvanni.

We need someone to represent House Indoril and House Dres here.
