Morrowind thread!

Kotor is great, from a story perspective. The gameplay is a bit iffy. I wish that House Hlaalu and even House Redoran would get their Rise of ---- somehow.

Is there even an active modding community left for Morrowind? I mean, the game is fifteen years old and most modders have moved on to Skyrim, right?

Ive only really had a legitimate playthough of Morrowind on console. Ive been seriously considering a fully loaded fresh install and try to grin and bear it.

I think the MGSO Overhaul Mod is pretty much the ultimate mod (it aggregates all the great mods into one easy installer and adds features from Morrowind Graphics Extender). I really don't see how the game could be improved/modernized any better than what MGSO Overhaul has accomplished - for me it is the be all, end all Overhaul for Morrowind.

It's a nice mod, I have to agree, but it's only cosmetic. There are still lots of fixes, tweaks, gameplay changes and of course quest and companion mods out there that are definitely worth a shot.

By the way, I can't find the Morrowind mod hall of fame anywhere. On which site was that? That'd be a nice list to pick from.

I remember Darknut's Greater Dwemer Ruins being good. http://www.mikeniccum.com/qst.htm
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YOU HAVE TO HELP ME!

Vemynal is a total maze. I've made it to the Torque Tube Core, but I'm on the wrong side of the room, and I can't find a way to the other side to save my life. At one point I just gave up and used recall to get me home, but then the whole 'levitation magic doesn't work here' thing wouldn't end, so I guess I'll just have to try some more. Anyway, shit is tough. Those Torque Tube Access mazes seem to have no ending and I really don't know where to go. :(

Edit: I've been trying to find a solution in the editor, and I can't find anything there either. I've explored all the tube access areas, I've been in every cell, and I can't find a single doormarker leading to the other side of the Torque Tube Core, so I'm stumped. I must be missing something. Please don't tell me it's something painfully obvious.

I am sorry its been years since I played, so I don't remember how to get through it.

Did you use console commands, because I think those could break some scripts for the quest.

Scrolls of Icarian Flight to get over the thing, which seems a bit cheaty, but even in the editor I couldn't find any other way to get past it. I used my Boots of Blinding Speed to outrun the molten boulder that crashes down when you pick up Sunder. No way to outrun that thing without it, and I have 120 speed with Keening equipped. Seems pretty broken. Maybe it isn't even the way you're supposed to escape because it just seems like bad design. There's no way to get out of there without those boots or those scrolls of Icarian Flight or some other jump spell/potion/scroll. I may have missed something, though, because, like I said, it just seems like bad design if that's how it was intended. I expected to have to solve some sort of puzzle...

Sorry to hear that.

Like I said, it has been years since I played it. My standards might of been lower then they are now, for determining what is a good mod or not.

I am pretty sure you could enchant a exquisite ring or piece of clothing with constant effect levitate.

Levitation is disabled through scripts in Vemynal, so that's why I doubt I was supposed to just jump over the obstacle using Tarhiel's scrolls. Kind of a weird and specific solution to the puzzle... Same goes for the Boots of Blinding speed to outrun the boulder.

The console version of Morrowind was actually terrible aside from the fact you could use an xbox controller. Playing it on PC with the Morrowind Overhaul installed is like playing a brand new game entirely.

Yeah, I had installed it on PC once and played around with it.. The temptation to just use console commands every other minute was too strong and went back to playing it on the 360 after a while...I'm weak..

Kind of. There's always some graphical mods being released and every day you have new modders releasing their small house/town projects, but there's not much of a modding community anymore. I think part of that is because the Morrowind construction set is rather clunky compared to the tools newer games like Skyrim offer. Oblivion was the same, seeing as the CS worked very similarly to Morrowind, but scripting and setting up NPCs is a lot easier so it also has a semi-active modding community still.

The good thing, however, is that despite not getting much in the sense of new mods anymore, Morrowind is 14 year old game and thus almost all mods you'll ever need for the game have already been made! The Code Patch, Sound and Graphic Overhaul, Better Bodies, MGE, Better Heads are pretty much all you'll need to start with and then you have no lack of nice mods that add new buildings, equipment or characters to the game.

Gets the urge to play Morrowind and install it on Steam.

The game doesn't launch.

I think this is increasingly common with older games.
I tried to re-install M&B on this new computer - doesn't run.

Grim Fandango was known for it, and there were 3rd party adjustments to make it run, untill it was finally re-released

What's strange is that I'm pretty much using the same setup on which I played it in 2013 (same compuer, same Windows version, etc.).

Serves me right for trying to play an old game on Steam, I guess.

It's been like that for many many years. I'd say it's only gotten better over time, thanks to things like GOG, dosbox and larger communities figuring things out. But Win 10 might have turned things around.
