Nerding out on internet purchases

Yeah, and they lose their carbonation when you do that. Every time you open them you lose carbonation. The tap dispensers, meanwhile, are "always closed" using the carbonation to propel the soda out of the tap, so they keep fresh and fizzy for weeks. Or at least, they SHOULD. It all comes down to whether this particular product does the job right (again, it was fricking cheap) and whether I use it right. Every version I checked on amazon had wildly negative reviews of people complaining "this thing sucks" so I dunno which is really the better product. I just based my purchase on my analysis of their functions and that the best reviews for one seemed to resonate with my thoughts more than the best reviews for others.

Also, I've run into something relatively new with the plastic "twisty caps". They seem to get increasingly "fused" with the bottle the more you open and reseal them, lately. I don't know why. I don't remember this ever being an issue before. Maybe it's a change in their production that I'm unfamiliar with? That's entirely possible, given the decades-long crusade against plastic in the U.S. So the less I open a bottle, the better.

I discovered Rose Pink Lemonade on my trip to the UK, it was delicious, butonly a specific brand, as I then bought it in a big bottle and it tasted like I was drinking perfume or floor cleaner, had a very nasty after taste, so now I am planning on buying a whole crate of the one I drank first.

SnapSlav,

do you keep the thing on the table (does it have it's own cooling system) or in the fridge? So that the soda stays cool?
I haven't gotten mine yet, so this isn't an answer on what I do, but what I'm planning to do.

The one I chose doesn't increase the height of the bottle more than the width of the base of it, so only about half a centimeter, so it would still fit in a refrigerated shelf that the bottle normally would. The ones I didn't choose were large tops that would increase the height of the bottle by about 3-5 centimeters, so those wouldn't fit. Right now I take from bottles that are kept in a cool place, but not refrigerated, simply because I don't drink from them all that often, but sometimes I refrigerate them. I prefer icing my beverages, though, because I don't mind "watered down" sodas, because I drink them when the ice is still there, and hasn't completely melted, but has cooled the soda to below refrigerated temperatures. Also, the only soda I'd have "something against" being watered down is Coca-Cola, anything else I wouldn't at all mind being slightly diluted.

But to sum up your answer, usually kept in a not-warm place, and I add ice, sometimes refrigerating the soda... but I'd still add ice.

Yeah, I'm extremely glad I could still get one. Although there's other collector's editions out there I'd like to have, this one tops them all.

I picked one up too. I like the graphic novel. I wish I had the one for Fallout 3, even though I don't care for the game that much.

For the Bobblehead or the Lunch Box?

Collector's editions are getting shittier recently, they made a special edition of Majora's Mask 3DS, and aparently no one in the marketing department ever tought about including a wearable Majora's Mask on it, that's like the first thing you think about from the game, the masks. Who care about a "metallic collector box" or a medal? Even Skyrim had that huge ass Paurthenax figurine. Step it up nintendo, you are already selling plastic keys to a feature included on the disc, I want to buy plastic crap, win me over.

Both. I really want the Bobblehead.

I've got the Collector's Edition of FO3. Eh, I was starved for Fallout content by that time. I had faith it would be amazing. I was wrong. So sue me. But the lunch box is pretty cool. I mostly love the bobblehead, which sits on my desk to this day. In the years since that I've grown to utterly despise pre-orders, this remains one of my most proud. At least when you know you want a collector's edition of a game in a franchise you love, it's considerably more justifiable to pre-order THAT. =)

Anyway, my most recent internet purchase which I'm quite giddy over is..... an unusual one.

I bought Vital Wheat Gluten. Yes, gluten. The whole "all natural", "organic", "gluten-free" craze going on in the states makes getting good quality flour really hard to come by, if you're not a restaurant with a regular supplier. Well I'm not. I'm just an average Joe with a fondness for cooking. And some years ago I tried my hand a couple times at my own ramen. I made the noodles, I made the broth, I liked the result. But I felt like I could do much better. Looking up various recipes, I kept reading about kansui and gluten, no eggs. The more I read about it, the more convinced that I hadn't really "experienced" making my own TRUE ramen noodles from scratch. So I've been endeavoring to try it again, ever since. And that's where that damn inconvenience of ZERO gluten comes in. The funny thing is, kansui, the other key ingredient, is the "essence" of a lake in Asia, which you'd think would be the hardest part to obtain. But it's just an alkaline, which you can make a suitable replacement for by removing the excess water from sodium bicarbonate; common Baking Soda.

So now I've got some sodium carbonate (kansui), I've got my flour, I've got my meat and bones and miso and soy sauce and veggies. All I'm waiting for is for my gluten to arrive! =D

I just backed Shadowrun Hong Kong with a 500 u$d pledge. I wanted to do a high reward pledge with other projects before and I couldn't, so I guess I totally nerded it out on this one. I guess it's one of the benefits of having no children to support and no wife to tell me "You've just spent 500 dollars on WHAT!!!".

I heard the Bobblehead is really poor quality, same with the Pip-boy alarm clock.

It could be made of shit for all I care. It looks good enough for me. I Just want to have something Fallout related in statue form.

"The Survival Edition!!! tm" came with a Pipboy 3000 alarm clock replica that apparently is a piece of junk.

Edit:
Look, my Deck, the Platinum chip, the casino chips and my ridiculous Arnie Head keychain

I've ordered a barbell bar (not really all that nerdish, I guess) because I need one and it's on it's way from Germany. It's strange how it's cheaper to order something from that far yonder because I haven't found any available in the nearby stores.

I know my purchase isn't really in the proper spirit of 'nerdage' but since I rarely buy stuff I wrote about getting this. Well it arrived last Monday. It's really nice, a real luxury bar, I'm happy. Then, today, another bar arrived at my door. I think my Teutonic cousins have made either a calculation or logistical mistake of some type. I checked, I only paid for one bar and the delivery. And now I have two. I feel like a kid who gets a really unexpected present. Since I already have the bar I needed I will have to think of what happens to bar no. 2.

Anyway, thank you Germany. Thank you Crni Vuk and Hassknecht.

Hardcover perfection. Except for the paper, which is quite thin. Still, it's got sketches and an article in the back, and some few other extras. I love it. I only wish I had an appetite to re-read it already, but I had read it digitally when I didn't know how to get it for a reasonable price yet.
