Nerding out on internet purchases

Man, even I wouldn't be interested in a spanish copy of the game.

Internet purchases is a sad topic for me. Here not only you can't get things you buy online past customs, but in order to pevent internet purchases they don't even let regular non commercial personal shippings past them, no matter if it's an iPhone or the drawings of your nephew who is living abroad.

Spanish versions of games are pretty shittily dubbed most of the time.

Also I finally have my european PS3 with an European Persona 4 Ultimax, now I got the free dlc they gave away on release date on the sony account I made for my Vita, but it turns out that, even tho you can log in to an american account, and plaay the game, get achievements no problem, the DLC is region locked to the fucking Game disc so if I want to play with the 3 extra characters I have to get an american region disc.... Why do people prefer consoles again? good thing I bought it on the cheap...

Because in order to have a gaming computer you have to spend outrageous ammounts of money in purchasing and updating the hardware anyway, and consoles are gaining in the quality/cost balance, plus they're starting to offer more functionalities as an entertainment plataform. I can watch Netflix and Youtube on my living room TV with my console. Also I haven't yet had compatibility issues yet, neither in my 360 nor in my PS4. And I can buy games trough PS network on release as if it were Steam.

You are talking as if you have to update every piece of hardware every day, or if PCs only had use as game plataforms....

Nowdays I only use a laptop for PC functionalities wich is much more useful at that than a desktop one, and have my console as my entertainment platform. And I did looked into a gaming PC as my current one is way outdated, the PS4 was way cheaper.

This was much more true the last generation than the current one. PS3s pushed the boundaries of console possibilities, but the PS4 by comparison is rather lackluster. PS3 and 360 had 1080p standard, yet PS4 and XBone "have difficulty" reaching 720p (mostly XBone). Both consoles have sacrificed much in the ways of reaching that quality/cost balance just to pursue rather redundant peripheral functionalities. TVs nowadays can connect to the internet and have youtube and netflix and such already built in, so for consoles to sacrifice features and advances just so they can include those are simply shooting themselves in the foot.

They pushed the boundaries by making a bunch of the same exact games that sacrificed gameplay in favor of visuals. Now with the "next gen" it seems they'll be all about the open world sandbox games, even Uncharted is gonna have that.... Guess we'll have an entire world of collapsing platforms and rusted out pipes to explore.

What are you talking about? I don't know about you, but my PS4 with true HD looks waaay beter than my 360, heck even the Playable Teaser for Silent Hills looks almost lifelike, much better than anything I have seen, even on PC.

Most of PT's prowess is in the lighting, also helps the fact that the only map is a fairly simple hallway and most models are in less illuminated areas of the space, not to mention the low amount of actual high poly models they render at a time, same way Fighting games and racing games achieve to look beautiful when running on old hardware. Comparing a hallway with visual puzzles to a full game is like comparing a single Illustration to an animated movie and say the picture has more quality.

The PC I need to run it on ultra is about twice as expensive than the PS4, as I said before, and coinsidering the level of detail of the true HD on the big screen on my living room I seriously doubt the PC version was better. But I guess I'll never know.

PS4 and Xbone versions are the equivalent of High, so, really Ultra is by simple logic better, not to mention that you can play PC on a big tv too (my screen is a led TV conected with an HDMI cable), buying a good PC is more an investment than anything, not only for games, but you can also use it for work. mine is not a super high end PC, but I can still run games at better quality than a console and then use it to do 3d modeling and graphic design.

I would prefer coffee... and graphic novels... what, I like the art in them... don't judge me.

I've ordered a barbell bar (not really all that nerdish, I guess) because I need one and it's on it's way from Germany. It's strange how it's cheaper to order something from that far yonder because I haven't found any available in the nearby stores.

Don't have a console yet but I might be getting one since it seems like they are making good games console-only these days (Last of us etc.). Plus I like primo, high quality coffee. Well not really, regular dark coffee will do. We Finns are the biggest coffee drinkers in the world by a wide margin, I'm sucking down a big cup right now in fact. Good thing a high intake of caffeine doesn't affect me in any negative ways. :twitch:

So he's a genuine "internet purchase" I'm a tad giddy over: a soda tap dispenser. Sure, it cost 5 bucks, sure, I've never used it, sure, it could break. But damn it, I love when soda is freshly fizzy and I just can't stand when they go flat and bland, and I'm just not keen to devour an entire 2 liters of soda the moment I buy it. I'd rather keep it for a few weeks. So I've been looking for a tap dispenser for soda bottles for a while now. NO idea if this one's going to be worth while, but it's my first purchase of this particular product, so I'm looking forward to it in the coming mail. =D
