Minigun doesn't look too bad either, but it's really hard to fuck up minigun. Even if they tried to.
Gotta disagree on that one. Poor computer game minis are ten a penny! Rare that they're pulled off well.

All right, but you hafta admit- that Ghoul is reaching for the VD like he's going to eat his brains out.

Right. Like what several other people already mentioned, there were mindless ghouls in the original Fallouts. What makes you say that this isn't what the ghouls in Fallout2 looked like when they came right at you in Metropolis? The ghoul in the shot looks like a perfectly typical enraged mindless ghoul.
Now if this type of ghouls is the only type to be found in Fallout 3 then its a whole different story...

Ahh... what else would you have me to say? Seems like the appropriate response. Would have been developed to pointless argument otherwise...

Fallout 3 FAQ:

Will they be NPCs you can interact with or monsters?

Both, actually. Most are used as NPCs you talk and interact with, but there are also other ghouls, the Feral Ghouls, these are more “creature” like, and are aggressive.

All is good then, right?
basically this means that there are *other* ghouls (besides the non-aggressive ones), which has been referred to as "Feral ghouls", that are aggressive.

Or am I reading this wrong?

im suprised how amazing are some of these sreenshots

bravo for bethesda, first time, hope not last

Is this the Fallout's signature 10mm SMG? It's probably some other gun.

I think it might well be. The SMG is actually mentioned in the preview.

Some of you have (duly) noted Pagliarulo's comments

'Is it Oblivion with guns?' my main answer is, 'in all the best ways.'"

as unsettling. This statement is pretty contradictory to the recent impromptu responses he gave, and assurances to the fallout fans. Either way, I think this is mainly media-hype fluff, catered to the OMG PWN'd NOOBs!!!1!1! crowd, who need a simple, digestible, few-word phrase to let them grasp why they should be excited.

Notwithstanding, the Bethesda media monolith of a machine is a well oiled engine, prowling on full steam ahead! If only some more worthy games got a similar treatment.

So we're all FREAKING THE FUCK OUT over nothing at all, really?

Whew, glad we sidestepped THAT landmine.

But it is weird that he starts off generally talking about NPCs, and then explicitly mentions ghouls as non-interactive. That's not to say there can't be ghouls that are interactive, but it's a weird way to formulate the sentence (if indeed there are interactive ghouls).

Because of just one screen? Don't you think that you're being a little unfair here? The game is not even ready yet for god's sake!!
Every piece of information they show is official information and supposed to represent their game. It's pretty fair to judge by the information *they* think is ready to be seen.
That might be true, but this is just one dialog with one NPC from the hundreds Bethesda promised, you can't expect every conversation to be witty or full of choices.

Notice the general first reaction to the OP, you'll see that the heat was at 100 degrees and if you read every following post you'll see the temperature dropping. That post I responded to was hot, I was simply trying to cool the environment a bit, extremist reactions do not help anyone.

So now when someone asks, 'Is it Oblivion with guns?' my main answer is, 'in all the best ways.'"

"It's so depressing that you have to see the humor in it," says Pagliarulo

Fixed that for you, Emil.
You see, back in the day when you were trying to reassure us you used to tell us how you guys at Bethesda knew Oblivion's flaws, how different Sellout 3 would turn out and how "Oblivion with Guns" was not appopriate. Now we know you don't, it didn't and it is so very much that your own leading man says it proudly. THAT's some dark humour for you, right there.

It's also funny how they, and a lot of people in fact, still think that Oblivion had any strong points. Now, I don't mean to say "it wasn't as deep as Fallout", because I also play consoles and can appreciate every type of game, but Oblivion is, simply put, Diablo in first-person for the pretty and without variety or any of the things that make a roguelike good. And be assured it IS a roguelike, since every quest (except maybe for the often mentioned Dark Brotherhood, I could never be bothered to buy an expansion for that) has only two outcomes: either you do it, or you don't. Plus, combat has to be fun for a roguelike to be any good, and melee combat in FPP was only ever good in a handful of games (Dark Messiah owns Oblivion here).

Do you buy that? That they have a shitload of examples of great dialogue but decided not to show them?

I thought we were talking about ghouls? Don't mix topics, mister!

That's because the question he was answering was specifically about ghouls, which he answered were INDEED interactive as NPCs for the most part.

Will they[<-----"THEY" = GHOULS] be NPCs you can interact with or monsters?

The hostile ghouls in Necropolis behave exactly like hostile (unarmed) humans. They swagger in for a bit of fisticuffs. They don't flail around like something out of a George Romero film. They've also got a bit more meat on them. That thing looks more like a wight than a zombie.

Also, what the fuck is going on in the backflip screenshot? They player character is shooting at about head level, and it somehow severs the mutants leg? What the fuck was the mutant doing prior to that shot?

I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation, like you can use VATS to dismember enemies even after they're already dead and ragdolling about from something else, but it's hard to make sense of.

Since you 'obviously' can't have a dialogue with a supermutant, why could you with ghouls?

Maybe these ghouls were mutated in a different way? Remember the mutated Vault Dwellers from Gecko?

Remember than the first ghouls that the players meets in Necropolis are mindless and hostile. When the player descends into sewers, ey meets a group of ghouls whose leader shouts: "Don't shoot!" so that the player wouldn't confuse them with mindless zombies.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Set

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Necropolis

Hmm, I don't remember them to be feral. If I remember correctly, Set was in charge of the above ghouls and he was a dick. A dick that also had a kill first ask questions later policy. Also it says Set LEADS. That means the ghouls have the ability to comprehend and carry out specific orders.

Also, anyone ever notice that the ghouls in Necropolis don't attack you when your wearing PA or otherwise outgun them. I have been to Necropolis a many time where the ghouls do nothing because they know attacking me in PA is pretty much suicide.

This implies reasoning and thought. Just goes to show how far beth would go to make F3 more like their other past projects (oblivion and morrowind had zombies, so must F3).

The dark humor of talking to an old lady who's really nice to you, and then blow her head off, put her head on a counter, and pretend to talk to her...there's a certain charm to that."

They totally got that part of fallout wrong. I certainly won't 'laugh my ass off' when i see a leg getting blown apart. How sick do you have to be to find that funny? And the example with the old lady? What the fuck? I totally fail to see the 'charm' in exercising such horrific and meaningless violence. Together with the new zombie design (glowing in the dark..) it seems like they want to target the fans of those great movies like 'saw', 'the hills have eyes' and 'resident evil' altogether..
Dude, this game is being made by and for the Halo generation. These are douchebags who teabag each other in online matches and call the guy who just fragged them racial and sexual slurs. To them, this sort of bullshit is funny. This game is not being made for you or me. Beth, or maybe in particular Emil, seems to have completely missed the concept of Fallout's black humor.

Anyway, the graphics look nice overall...and I like the screen with the vault dweller and Dogmeat walking away. Other than that, I don't really have anything nice to say. The supermutants still look like the Strogg to me (nice comparison to Nemesis, whoever it was that posted that). I despise the stupid 60's retro font Beth is using for that retarded book you read during the tutorial (it's the same damn font they used for some of their crappy FO3 wallpapers). And you gotta love that deep, complex dialogue system. Phew, I might strain my brain contemplating all the options while interacting with NPCs.

No, they are a different kind of ghouls - all of them have crippled limbs and can only say things like "Arrrr!" or "Ugh".
