RAGE: The Thread

The fact that he has any popping on his system, which is about as ideal as you can get, is kind of ridiculous.

Indeed

Are you the one who keeps posting Total Biscuit here btw, or is that multiple people? In any case, thanks, he's quite enjoyable.

You're welcome, I like the way he looks at games (and his accent  ) and have posted some of his "WTF is" videos on NMA before 8-)

I much agree with his general tastes/perspective, looking at indie games on PC especially. Quite a few WTF is... games have gone on my wishlist on Steam.

I have bought several games I had never heard of before right after watching his "WTF is" on them.

Reading or watching a single professional review seldom has that effect on me.

In RAGE news: bethesda is blaming gpu drivers for technical issues:

http://www.bethblog.com/index.php/2011/10/04/playing-rage-on-pc/

I don't understand how nobody at id noticed these problems during beta testing, it seems obvious they must have tested the game on hardware using drivers available to the public?

testing ? And Bethesda ?

When will people learn ... its not a bug. its a feature. If you don't appreciate it. You have no right to complain. That simple.

- Yes I am fully aware that it was done by ID.

I'm Very disapointed in the added DLC. It took 10 minutes. 10 MINUTES to complete, what kind of bulls---- is that?!

You know, I wonder how journalists who complained about the size of the DLCs for FNV will judge this DLC.

I guess I understand why it was included for free in the Anarchy edition.

I dont understand why they added something that's one small area and has two missions. I'm hoping for more from the next DLC.

It was added as a deterant to get the game second hand. Buy it second hand and you don't get the mystical magical awesome sewer DLC.
Which is 10 minutes long.

Man the link C2B posted is interesting.

I'm halfway through now and there's been at least three different sewer locations to explore and I've returned to each of them two or three times for "kill all mutants" missions. With the various fixes and tweaks applied the game is turning out really good (for me, at least). It's the complete opposite reaction I had to Fallout 3, which felt more like work than playing a game. And Borderlands was mostly grinding. If you can take the gameplay mechanics and tech of Rage, give it the coop of Borderlands, and a dash of Fallout 3 player choice, you'd have pretty much the perfect post apocalyptic game.

Even with the "fixes", most of the textures look awful. You can clearly see how they wanted you to be able to read certain signs while everything around them is a huge blurry pile of poo. Thank the consoles, kids!

There's more than just that;

[spoiler:c1054e69a2]During the mission to clear out the Ghost Hideout there is a collectible that if you do not grab it at the time you will never be able to grab it again.

During the scene when you discover the defiblitor, look to the left and you will see a goblet on the fountain.

It's from Wolfenstein. [/spoiler:c1054e69a2]

Better use spoiler tags around those easter eggs ;)

I'm playing the game at a friends place, I must say that I'm starting to enjoy some parts of the actual gameplay.

The weapons feel and sound solid (especially the shotguns)

The art design is pretty strong, it's a shame some of it gets overshadowed by the much lamented low-resolution textures.

Character design is more than adequate.

Not pure popamole gameplay, enemies attack you in groups and can mess you up.

There are no medkits but you do have bandages you can use during combat, still regenerating health sucks and I often died because there is no way to know exactly how much health you have.

The defibrillator mini game/ mechanic feels useless and looks (and sounds) retarded.

No weapon limit.

The enemy AI can be surprisingly good at times, though they certainly don't always act in an intelligent manner.

The architecture is good and even impressive in places.

The overall voice acting is nice so far (except the gutter British sounding punks wtf is up with that)

The world isn't open or huge and invisible walls are everywhere. At its core it's a linear game that tries to create (and in part succeeds) the illusion of "openworldliness".

The driving works but it's not challenging or really exciting (might just be me though)

Didn't care about the mini games so I didn't try them out. (Same with crafting)

Halek Hager, the shopkeeper in the first town gives me the creeps.

I'm interested in this game, but this thread has me thinking of waiting to buy it when it goes down in price, don't really care about DLC (the only games i Did care about were F3/NV), so I don't care about not getting the "extra-superduper-anarchy (loligetittheresananarchyAinthename)-edition"

But I heard a comparison to borderlands, which I didn't like one bit, too grind heavy and not even a fun grindfest. So if it's like that I might just skip it or play it over a friends house before i even contemplate getting it.

It's not really grindy IMO, you just walk/ drive from one mission to the next. Which seldom took more than 30 seconds.
It's really very linear. (not necessarily a bad thing)

There are side missions but so far they all revolved around going to a place and killing bandits/ mutants/... (exactly like what you do in the main missions)

The racing seems to be optional for the most part. So far I had to win a couple of mandatory (very easy) races in order to advance the storyline.

The only thing that I would miss in the "regular" edition is the double barrelled shotgun. (Lame move id)

I don't think it's fair to compare Borderlands with this game, ultimately RAGE is "just" a linear shooter with much better combat and some "RPG" light elements like (optional) crafting and small hub areas with merchants and npc. There really is no point in exploring outside missions since you can't even pick up weapons from fallen enemies or find other interesting loot.

It's interesting enough to keep playing or at least it is for me.

Story and atmosphere remind me of certain post apocalyptic movies, and not of the deep philosophical ones like Stalker or Dead Man's Letters but Mad Max and the Running Man, there even is an arena of death where you can compete in front of the cameras :)

Apart from the somewhat disappointing graphics this really isn't a bad FPS/ game.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll give it a shot regardless of the graphic issues once it hit's the bargain bin.

Can't play single player due to crashing after the intro but multiplayer is pretty fun.
Only tried the driving game so far but it's pretty fast and responsive and the texture pop in isn't that noticible when your hitting 80mph. Managed to cream my opponents but I'm not sure they knew what they were doing or how to change to rockets. :V
