Reactions to the GI scans

Still, they're too far in development now to make any radical changes, should they even want to.

This is one of the most dangerous and wrong arguments in software development. I hope Bethesda is aware of this.

Maybe so, but doing so now means Beth can scrap almost everything they've been doing for the last 3 years, since what we would want as fallout fans is the exact opposite of what they have created.
It would push back the realease date by 2 years or even more, can Beth really afford that?

I know my company has just blown 20 million on a new customer registration that turned out to be shit, so now they are starting over. Good, but I doubt Beth has that kind of financial power, being a small independent developer with only 1 flagship title.

If they do decide to do so, they could end up like 3DRealms, working forever on 1 title and selling their IPs just to keep from going under.

I'm just not seeing it happen.

Are you serious?
Really? Because Bethesda is owned by Zenimax Media. You know, a huge company with a shitload of resources.

Huge company? What more do they offer beside Beth? Those few shitty cellphone games sure won't bring in the big money.

Yes, they will. Really. Zenimax media is pretty damn wealthy.
The point is that Bethesda and Zenimax also publish a lot of games, and do make a shitload of profit. To call Bethesda a small indy developer is ridiculous.

Well I couldn't find any sales figures, but I strongly doubt Zenimax is making huge profits of Star Trek games that are mediocre at best and IHRA Racing games or damn Horse Breeder games that are downright terrible.

Without their TES cashcow they would have been bankrupt years ago.

Bethesda has been pretty much bankrupt years ago, when it was bought by Zenimax.

I don't mean to interrupt the "my company has better looking toilets than yours" discussion, but I want to mention to anybody on this site that thinks the reputation of NMA is because of Rosh, or just because it's NMA, or just because it's Fallout, is wrong.

The only way this reputation got sour is because NMA mods and admins (even regulars) bash every new guy that comes along. They get either flamed, vatted, ignored, or get constant warnings to stop trolling when they are just stating their point. I have the same opinions about a tb/special/choice and consequence/retro future Fallout, but I DON'T call anybody that thinks diffrent a troll or ban-bait or any of the shit that flies around here as threats.

The rebel attitude of this site or that of the people who manage it is not a problem, everybody praised NMA for putting up the scans, and that's what it's all about, and for that, good job people.

But the mod attitude against new posters or people with a small number of posts is what makes it go "nuclear". Change can only come when this shit stops happening so often.

We bash every new moron that comes along. It's different.

Change can only come when this shit stops happening so often.

Or when magically, people stop posting stupid posts. Which is never.

Say, dude. If you don't like the way this place is run, don't post here. Nobody's forcing you to stay and share the company of those obnoxious, vulgar and stupid moderators.

Don't sidestep my argument. You bash every new guy, period. I assure you that my love for Fallout made me come here, and surely it made me stay. It's not like someone never left you, is it Wooz? Girls are shit sometimes but guys stay.

EDIT - I was explaining my thoughts on the situation regarding the reputation of NMA, remember we love choice and consequence, right guys?

And Sander, stop proving me right. It's annoying.

We don't bash every new guy, Smoke, stop trolling.

We bash a lot of new guys, tho'.

Why Smoke thinks there's some kind of "community expectations" lever to push that'd chance this is beyond me. We're a community with a set expectation patterns, it's considered common netiquette to understand this expectation pattern before posting. If you don't, you shouldn't post. If you don't like our *expletive-deleted* usage of English than, hey, nobody will force you to post there.

Want to make people feel more welcome, do so. Nobody can change the community but *you* :ok:

I like to think of NMA heartfelt welcoming towards newcomers as "constructive criticism". But to say that the new guys are always targeted is untrue, Mods enjoy poking at each other from time to time.

Virgin poster can easily be scared, offended and be tempted to leave. My advise is to stay & try to blend in even if your ego has been badly bruised, in time you will learn not to take things to personal & by the time you realize it you will actually enjoy being mentally & emotionally abused.

Woot? How did you escape "ze grinder" ?

I'm talking about posters going to other sites and bashing NMA's already tainted reputation. I wasn't claiming Sander or Wooz "mentally & emotionally abused" anyone.

Yet, if this site can find no good in the teaser, or the pictures, or what has been reported for Fallout 3, this site will cease to exist as a factor in Fallout 3 development -- which is too bad.

Congratulations yours has to be the most stupid post of the day.

Gee, its rare that I'm considered "the most stupid" -- nice complement :)

Anyhow, as you well know, comments such as yours make my point for me. So, I need not pursue this line of thought any further. Thanks for your help :P

Exactly, look at Time Shift, they were 99% done but they took a look at the game and decided that it was crap, so they took another year to make it better.

Thre's a big difference however, Timeshift was shunted to make it more friendly for the Xbox crowd. Instead of being a campy retro-futuristic FPS, it's been turned into a DARK AND FORBODING tale of going back in time to save the future from an evil empire. They also completely ruined the idea of being able to use time as a tool, now it's contextual (as in only being able to do it in certain areas, like when the big green arrow says you can).

Hello generalissimofurioso,

They really did that with Timeshift?
I wasn't really interested in it but this is very cheap, pretty much cutting what made the game somewhat interesting and turning it from a tactical tool in some puzzle device.

The nuclear grenade launcher and cars running off nuclear engines have to be the two stupidest ideas in the history game development.

So, let me get this straight. It's a semi-turn based, real time, third person shooter? Sounds like a mess to me. I don't understand. Why not make just a straight third person shooter or a straight RPG?

I had really high hopes that Bethsoft would make a decent game. They continue to dissapoint.

Sadly, they did...

the biggest problem is we want a successor to fallout 1 and 2. not a successor to BOS that looks and plays like oblivious.

and the problem is that all they can seem to do is morrowind and oblivious.

we want 50's stylized future, we want vaults, we want tribals, we want isolated settlements, we want quests, we want perks, we want traits, we want our actions to have meaning, we want turn-based, we want isometric, we want 3D, we want important chars to have talking heads, we want multiple ways for our different chars to do quests and important events, we want a sandbox to play in, we want the special system, we want something that stays true to cannon, we want something that looks and feels like post-apoc, we want deep story, and we want the jokes and the easter eggs.

thats what fallout as a rpg is. if it doesnt have those features, then its not really a fallout but something else. there is nothing wrong with them doing a whole about face and not call it fallout 3, because so far it isnt, and rather call it a self-titled release with a sub-title. something like Fallout: Escape from DC or something and then they can do whatever they want as long as they keep the setting right. but without the above things, its not really a fallout 3.

Ummm, I don't know about dumbing down for the consoles or whatnot, but that second screenshot is a hundred times better than the first one...

Anyway, that wasn't the point, the point was that if something sucks ass, you should fix it.
