Russian-Ukrainian war

What did they refuse and why? I thought it was far less of a moral dilemma to shoot at ISIS than at Ukrainian conscripts.

And I take that it's from some kind of opposition source since it's Russian and they admit military presence in the Donbass?

The first immage ... since when are Russian troops using German MG3s?

Also, the next one who's posting a Russian speaking website without any translation gets the hose again :V

Hm, so what is Vova planning in Syria? It seems some troops are being redirected from Ukraine to Syria, but everything is done under a hushed tone.

Russia wants ground troops in Syria, mainly to work directly with Assad and directly take out ISIS rather then bomb them and hope for the best. From what I can see Russia doesn't want another Iraq where America justifies an invasion of Syria. Probably to ensure America does not have a strong grip in the middle east because that would be counter-productive to Russia's interests, good or not.

If they dedicate enough troops to it it's going to be more like Iraq 2003. Afghanistan has a much more difficult landscape, most of the ISIS-controlled regions in Syria are desert. And Assad has Hezbollah on his side in the parts of the country where the landscape can be used for guerrilla warfare, which they're pretty skilled at. The Syrian army hasn't had any air support from the coalition despite being the largest combatant against ISIS and their main target in Syria.

But I don't think we'll see anyhting on the scale of Afghanistan or Iraq. The majority of the fighting forces on the ground will most likely stay Syrian.

I think they will target the original rebels first, judging by this map:

I can't see this ending well for Russian troops, if they will really try to take out the whole ISIS. Another Afghanistan?

They're doing it with Syrian support and hopefully American/UN support too, but I doubt it.

They should give away some of their tanks.

Some of the T-72B3s would be cool, yes, but they would not do much. Syria's climate is not really.. well, it's not what the T-72/64/80 were designed for.

And here, a picture:

would rather not spam this page though.

Images not mine:

(ignore the T-90 thingy, at that angle and at that range, a T-72 looks just like a T-90)
