So, can we talk about what Fallout 4 does well?

Vault 81 was an experiment, tho. It was made to be always breaking just enough that the population would always be understaffed to solve it and also try to make the population inside immune to any and all diseases.

The fact that it's breaking is not so much "shit breaks down after 210 years" and more "working as intended".

You sure? Got any sources?

It's in the terminals you found during the Hole in the Wall, quest. You know, the one with infectious mole rats.

Why not tell them, does it make any difference to the freezing cycle?

To be absolutely perfectly fair, if they were to drop that on me, I'd kindly tell them to shove it
Freeze me!?
To hell with that, man, freezing people is lethal!

:V

For a moment I imagined them casually sliding Shaun across the floor, like a curling stone

I have it as headcanon that the only reason Nate/Nora didn't give the Baby to the Institute Scientist despite not even having a reason to refuse, was because Shaun was actually frozen to his/her arm.

To be fair, they were just surprise frozen minutes after the apocalypse for no apparent reason, then suddenly some joker in a hazmat suit along with a sinister looking chap packing a magnum demands they hand over their baby. I'm pretty sure any parent is going to be concerned, or even panic in this situation.

Yeah having a .44 caliber magnum didn't help to ease the panic i guess.

That was completely retarded on the Institute's part anyway. Why not be friendly, open, and just get all the vault dwellers into the Institute? Why just take one child? They could have just taken everybody and sort out all the "undesirables" later. I mean, why waste all the potential candidates? Statistics! Basic foundation of science!

It's evil science!!!

Btw, was this planned like, since the dawn of time? That Shaun should be put into stasis, frozen, and then be the key to completing the synths? I cant really be arsed with the lore anymore...

DLC introducing time-travel paradox, please please please =D

POLL: How many people actually brought synth-shaun with them, if they chose to destroy the institute?

I think I did, but I have no idea where he is.

Are you telling me you lost Shaun - AGAIN?
You must be heartbroken! And surely, on an epic quest to retrieve him! :D

Yeah, they really mucked that one up. Especially killing all the other Vault dwellers. Why just have one backup? And why not integrate these people into the Institute proper? They were all from a well-off suburban district, some of them may have had valuable technical/scientific skills on top of the magical robot-friendly DNA. I mean, the FEV lab fiasco clearly shows that the Institute are almost cartoonish in their villainy, but that plan was really dumb coming from supposed world-class scientists that can invent teleportation and Not!replicants.

Father's idea to just release his surviving parent into the Wasteland, directionless, was also really stupid. They happened to be unkillable player characters, but otherwise could have bought that farm at any time. And a lot of trouble for the Institute would have been avoided had he just introduced them nicely.

As for Synth!Shaun, he's at Sanctuary where I told him to go. He sits around and makes some mods when you bring him crafting materials, and also comments on a few things. Incidentely, is it ever said if he grows up? Or will he stay a 10 years old forever?

Just because some lawyer from Vault 111 got loose; every species dared live above ground are now in IUCN Red list and few nomadic tribes and at least 2 major factions faced genocide.

I think it's a good thing they killed the other residents...

You know I agree. That vault experiment wasn't made to test 'freeze' tech but see the potential for super human Vault Dwellers.

Fallout 3 and NV had a few iffy variable test vaults, in my opinion, but strangely enough, I do think the Vault 111 premise is solid. Given the Enclave would be going long distances in space, I can totally see them wanting to keep certain individuals (Richardson needs to preserve those boyish good looks) frozen.

I also like how the Eastern Brotherhood ditched all the lawful good nonsense of FO3. Maxson jr.'s crusade to unilaterally destroy the Institute for daring to harness powerful technology is totally in line with the Western bros.

I'd say it isn't. But that's my opinion.

Yeah i even want to start a new topic about this. BoS is militaristic yes but actualy it's monastic side was heavier. It feels real sily when they annex places. Like Buddha's great great great grandson annexes London because of the industrial revolution.

Though there were Buddhist warrior monks and extremists.

It comes down to what the Brotherhood's main motivations were. Maxson wanted to protect humanity from itself by learning about and safeguarding technology. But how did he best see to go about it? How would he have dealt with the Institute?

They're much more close to Templar Order actualy. Even 3 main ranks are similar however BoS' purpose is hoarding knowledge, protecting it and making sure it survives the next global annihilation or until humanity wises up. Also they try to prevent apocalypse from happening as well. However they don't "help" others by helping them build settlements, killing monsters and whatnot.

East Coast BoS is far away from this stoic ideology. It's military structure is sofisticated and more suited for an army. They root out mutants whenever they can and actively seek out enemies and even declare war on them. Not that i don't like this new group... still they're different.

In FO3, yeah they helped people, but post-Lyons BoS we see being led by Maxson is a lot more callous. That's what I like about them. Sure, they blare the whole, "We are the Brotherhood of Steel. No need to fear. We're here to help," stuff, but given their actions, it's pretty clear that they're as myopic as ever. They came to the Commonwealth to snuff out the Institute, and they'll kill anyone who gets in their way, hence your being able to simply kill any settlers whom you can't persuade into giving over supplies. If only that part of the game were given more development, you could play lawful evil on the BoS side.

-Player dialog. Fallout 3 had no choices despite what anybody seems to think. So, Bethesda knew they weren't going to win any awards for dialog and cut it down to the bare minimums. I thought this was actually a really welcome change. I don't like the illusion of choices, unless surrounded by significant choices themselves. Fallout 3 had 0 choices. Everything was either "Hey, you are my dad, I will do this mission for you," "I hate you, dad, I will reluctantly do this mission for you," "I will consider this mission for my dad," "I love you, dad." "Dad."

Wouldn't it be nice if Bethesda actually invested in adding back the 'simulation' type choices to these games? They could go from making these more and more average games that they have become (including Elder Scrolls here), to something that is simply more than a pile of average.

Mr Btongue shows exactly what that meant for the original Fallout, for example:

Also required viewing:

(games that present with you uncomfortable choices, char examples)

(and realism)

CD Projekt actually takes time to craft something believable even if it is make believe. What I'd like are more games that not only presents the simulated kind of choice/consequences, but the multiple pathing for solving situations if your character is built as such - and Beth is quite simply being surpassed. And I'd really like a new Fallout that keeps me guessing, making hard choices, has believable characters, and finding out alternate ways to resolve things, etc.

I LOVE MrBtoungue's videos. I can give FO4 two things in the plus plus plus column

1) As an Unwashed Villager, I attest they got Power Armor RIGHT.

2) They finally watched the Shandification of Fallout and made sure when they released FO4 they answered "What do they eat?".

3) Kitty cats! MEOW!
