State of gaming: Early 2017. "Mass Effect Andromeda"

No, though Dragon Age: Origins *AND* Mass Effect 3 both contained companions who were in the base game only to be removed to sell as DLC.

The two merchants at your camp have DLC they can sell you but they also are merchants in-game.

Ahh, so DLC garbage none the less...

That's why I don't bother with Bioware shit, half the game is cut away to sell later for DLC.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Mass Effect Andromeda is going to be a shit show.

I can't wait.

You mean 'break records and rake in millions'?

Because you could shit on a USB drive, put a corrupted WAD of doom on it, package it, and sell it, and make millions, as long as you're a big AAA dev, selling it to consoles.

Bioware announces an "alternate trailer" featuring the female protagonist:

Which teaches Bioware a valuable lesson - catering to vocal minorities - is a stupid time consuming activity which can impact on the overall product's quality. They don't like or approve anything related to games and gaming, and Bioware is no exception anyway.

I love their logic.

*Guys play most of the games*

*Trailer with guy character is released*

Guys: "This game looks like shit"

*Says they're making the trailer with a woman now instead*

Women: MISOGYNY!

Holy shit these retards.... their reading comprehension....

It's crystal clear that ME twitter account was talking about alternate version of the trailer, not 'that the female protagonist as the 'alternative' to the 'default' male protagonist. What the actual fuck.

The ME fanbase has gotten worse over the years. The reddit page is a bit of a joke since every attempt to point out an issue has a copy/paste response of "you haven't played it so you can't say it's bad." Even pointing out how bad the faces and animations look gets this default response. Pax footage that came out has shown us NPCs with deadpan, thousand yard stares when talking to the player, and people seem to think it's not representative of the final product. Delusional.

@0wing nails it tbh. Bioware went a little too far in engaging with their community, and now it thinks it has the divine right to dictate what Bioware should and shouldn't market.

Catering to the vocal minority has given Bioware a lot of credibility with people who will buy their games no matter what but yes, part of the problem as a long time Bioware forumite is that a lot of these fans can't separate their fanboyism from their representational agenda.

For example, a lot of fans complained about the fact Cullen and Cassandra weren't gay romancable.

That wasn't about representation, that was about wanting to make them their waifus and fanboying over the characters.

It was the fact plenty of lesbian gamers hated Sera because Sera is an annoying piece of crap. Not because representation wasn't better having a lesbian character versus automatically making them all bi.

Jesus....

Are people complaining because the "Male/Female" options have to be highlighted on one of them?

Is this really the biggest deal?

Playing Devil's Advocate here:

Every Mass Effect trailer so far, from 1-3 has been of male shepherd almost exclusively.

Sure this is a step forward, but if so far Bioware has a track record of mostly ignoring female characters for trailers, when they do start doing it, its going to be regarded with suspicion.

Had they shown footage of both protagonists equally in all there trailers, nobody would be suspicious of there intentions this time around.

Not saying I agree with what's been said there, as Black Angel pointed out, they seem to have greatly misinterpreted what had been said in that tweet, I'm just trying to give all sides the benefit of the doubt here.

Just out of curiosity, what vocal minority do you think Bioware caters to?

From what I've seen of them, they seem like the kind of company that tries to make everyone happy. They seem for the most part, relaxed towards there audience, and happy to be inclusive.

What gives you the impression that they are putting a vocal minority ahead of the main audience? Even though I'm not big on Bioware, I thought they catered to everyone.
They don't like or approve anything related to games and gaming, and Bioware is no exception anyway.
Wait...So a bunch of fans have been following Bioware's updates, watched the trailer, and commented on the trailer, and somehow they don't like gaming?

I would love to see the mental gymnastics you did to figure that out.

The comments by the "feminists" were dumb but uhm gaming is not an entirely male dominated thing.

Women arent even in a minority, if I remember a statistic I saw awhile back its like nearly half of gamers are women.

Also in response to above maybe dont use a Bill Cosby qoute to back up an opinion.

Bill is no longer a source of advice for anyone, up to and including jello pudding being delicious.

But yes, Bioware has screwed up on occasion trying too hard.

Sadly, I wish they'd take more chances but when they do like with Jade Empire then they don't get rewarded.
