The NCR Ending Is Canon

HE WAS REBORN IN THE SIERRA MADRE!

In the heart of that casino Elijah and he began their plans for the destruction of the Mojave and the NCR! Wipe the slate clean!

If Bethesda chooses what's canon, we are probably looking at the independent ending being the most likely. In order to remind the players how cool and badass they were in the last game, of course. If it's Obsidian, this one's the least likely as you couldn't mention the ruler of Vegas once without breaking the illusion that it was actually the guy you brought to that ending in NV.

An NCR victory doesn't necessarily mean rapid expansion, though. Sure, Vegas and the dam aren't bad things to have, but they're spread pretty thin and have a lot of internal issues.

It's entirely conceivable that the Courier would quickly realize that "pretending to be Robert House" would be the easiest way to rule Vegas. After all, that would allow her to maintain the existing deals with the strip families (and maybe the NCR), whereas having some virtual unknown be suddenly in charge would get a lot of those parties to try to renegotiate from a perceived position of strength (which could create a lot of problems for the Courier.)

The Courier could still go out and about and do stuff presenting herself as House's 2nd in command and official representative, but I think when it comes from laying out dictates from high atop the Lucky 38, the Courier would get more done as the woman behind the curtain.

So Obsidian could have people refer to "House ruling Vegas" when in fact it's the Courier just assuming the name and position in order to get things done. This would explain, for example, why "House" might not restart the space program and other changes in policy.

But everyone knows House is dead once you kill him. They comment on it a lot. Caesar even says that he read his obituary, which also appears on your pip-boy when you kill him.

It's not impossible that a female courier would find a puppet to manipulate as the families probably wouldn't be into being ruled by a woman. But come on, we all know that the courier is a man. With a penis.

If the securitron army says "House is not dead, that was just a software glitch that was triggered by adding additional securitrons to the network" who's going to disagree? I mean, the only person who has met House's physical body is the Courier and everybody else has only seen his computer screen image (if that), and the latter could easily be reproduced complete with House's voice and (youthful) image since it's just software.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the canonical Courier is going to be female, since the canonical Vault Dweller and Chosen One were male.

I don't think the families are all that gullible. And why should the courier bother?
Hey, I have an army of powerful robots which gives me total control over Vegas and the surrounding area, what should I do? How about pretend to be some other guy which I just killed. That makes sense.
Using a proxy only makes sense for a female courier and only if she doesn't use the same technology House used to extend her lifespan.

The courier being a female isn't likely either in the Fallout universe or our own, but they might just make it so to seem progressive and cool.

But that's a topic for another thread.

I would rather House or Yes Man being canon. It's just, Vegas being an independent and lawless land where an adventurous soul can do anything to find his fortune, sounds better than another city with tax-paying citizens...

Why would the Courier become Mr House? Last time I remembered some of the most influential strip families hated House, with attempts to bomb his city, slander his name and overthrow him.

Benny was power-hungry and the Omerta's were dickheads; Once you change their leaderships to House supporters everybody wants the House to win.

Not really... everyone keeps taking about how House is enigmatic and pointless, Freeside hates him, NCR hates him, the Followers hate him and everyone else shrugs.

Being remembered as the man/woman to eliminate Mr House and gain control of his army seems vastly more influential than taking up Mr House's identity.

There seems to be less House supporters than there are anti-House activists, and there's even a chance House supporters might be intimidated into silence by the act of eliminating Mr House.

House doesn't give a fuck, all he wants is the Strip and the Strip is all your courier needs to start a federation with the other Mojave settlements. The Courier could slowly change House's image to that of a super-helpful dude.

I kind of doubt it, because the Courier would be speaking not Mr House.

Why the assumption that the independent ending automatically means a Dictatorship by the Courier? My Couriers usually remove House, kill Lanius, negotiate with Oliver, then fade away behind the scenes, leaving the Followers to help pull everything together as a democratic federation (with the Courier ready to step in as a "problem solver" if needed)

I think the point is that "I control an army of robots and I am the signatory on a bunch of treaties with you which I intend to enforce" is a much stronger bargaining position than "I control an army of robots."

Which is to say, you can get things done that way without brandishing your robot army. You can point to the pieces of paper and invoke ethos that we have forged a society of laws and that only through these treaties have the families achieved their current place in life and should thus respect the documents and abide by what they say, and when that doesn't work you have a robot army.
