The NCR Ending Is Canon

In an Obsidian Fallout, this NCR would be an extremely corrupt, inefficient, and militaristic fascist state that idolized Aaron Kimball as an Eternal Leader for his deed on wiping the savages and bring "democracy" to New Vegas. In a Bethesda game, this NCR would be the very force of democracy and freedom that will bring safety to the denizens of Wasteland, completely disregarding the obvious clues of what could happened if NCR take Hoover Dam.

Imagine if Tandy saw what happened.
Too bad she died of old age before she could realize what was once her peaceful home village, has now turned into a corrupt resurrection pre-war California's state government.

Well the signs were there when she ruled, but it really happened after her death.

Yes but I have a feeling that the only reason that Beth wanted the NCR ending to be canon is because they want Fallout 5 to have a war going on between the Brotherhood and NCR. I am sure that they are going over the cliff notes of Van Buren as we speak. I would rather if Beth just kept their Midas touch of crap away from the West Coast wasteland.

Too late. There was a Golden Gate Bridge in the Kellogg memory exploration sequence. That means San Francisco hype, and that either means Bethesda will attempt a West Coast game or they'll pressure Obsidian into making the next variant of New Vegas take place in San Francisco.

I don't thinks so since Bethesda implied that the NCR was corrupt in Kellogg's memories.

It would be pretty interesting to set a game in NCR territory after they've pretty thoroughly civilized the region, but it would have to be awfully different from a normal Bethesda game since there would be much, much less to fight.

One ending HAS to be canon...might as well make it be the NCR one

I agree
NCR is a strong, old staple of the series, and I'd frankly be pissed off is all the build-up resulted in it dwindling away again.

Realistically, nations DO dwindle away, they rise promisingly, then crash disastrously, and nobody can prevent it, but meh, in fiction we often expect the happy ending, and I am fond of the NCR.

That said, I like that the NCR has weaknesses, and New Vegas did a good job at pointing out the differences in the old city state NCR - and the massive federation of NCR decades later. Power corrupts, and if the ultimate ambition of the NCR is the power of the entire post-USA, then it would also show in an increased corruption - a growing disconnect between the elite and the people they govern (as a stark contrast to ol' Aradesh, and his beloved tribe)

I would prefer literally any other ending becomes canon, even a Legion victory, as opposed to the NCR. I just think the NCR has been done to death at this point, and I'd rather see new societies forming rather than simply see the Bear Flag raised over the entire North American continent...

A House ending would be interesting. I doubt he would actually be able to realize his grandiose schemes, but I like the idea of a little diorama Vegas protected by killer robots in the middle of the wasteland.

I want to see the Legion win. The game could be set in Los Angeles and follow the worry and slow collapse as the legion moves West.

That could be really good. After years of peaceful contact, suddenly the Shi go silent. NCR patrols sent in to find out what happened disappear without trace. You are sent into the ruins of San Francisco to find out what went on, and uncover something that could either be a source of immense power, or a threat to the entire order if it fell into the wrong hands. Obsidian could work with that.

In terms of canon ending, I usually go with Yes Man, but I'd prefer to see either House or the Legion victories.

A House-run, corporatist Mojave several decades down the line could lead to some interesting stories, but as I have suggested in another thread, my dream Fallout V would be for you to start in Legion territory on the Oregon border, where the NCR has fractured into several states after defeat in the Mojave, held together only by a need to defend themselves against the Legion. You are a young farm hand/hunter/tribal when the legion comes round to conscript you. You can choose to enlist, or to run.

I wouldn't mind a Fallout game set in Frisco. NCR could appear again, the Shi would appear- parts of it could show some heavily chinese influence. Hubologists could return for lolz. There are but two problems: First is, the area is pretty peaceful and civilized by now. It's not easy to write-in a new big threat and make it believable (and at the same time not making a 1:1 New Vegas copy) and second, have you seen how chinese people look in Bethesdas engine? lel...

When I was on the Fallout reddit, several people mentioned that they'd like the next Obsidian made Fallout to be set in Washington and I quite like that idea. I'm not sure how that could work out, but the setting could be quite promising.

Yeah I'd love to see whole new factions in the rockies. A war between prospectors and local tribes, as they fight for ownership and gold.

Why you keep talking about SF or Sacramento, while Obsidian developer said already, that they want (if possible) to do game set in Los Angeles?

Nothing bethesda says about the west coast will ever matter to me. Honestly Frosted Flakes' dialog sounded more like a reference to NV from people who've never taken more than a cursory glace at the game than some insight into the happenings on the west coast.

I think honestly what I would prefer to happen in New Vegas is simply to fast forward a couple decades and have the Legion defeated at the dam, but the NCR pushed out by the securitron army and Vegas rules itself for a while. After a number of years, Vegas elects to join the NCR on more friendly terms than "your army is in our city". I think if you push forward far enough you don't have to comment on whether the House or the Independent ending was cannon, eventually House and the Courier will be out of the picture, and if Vegas joins the NCR on good terms you'll get the best part of the NCR ending without the bad parts.

Why not both?

They're pretty far away...
