The Ultimate Movie Thread of Ultimate Destiny

Something that can controll the mind of every living beeing on a planet/solar system/galaxy done yet? You know, X-man style.
In a way, yes. Joruus C'Baoth did a lot of mind-control (including directly controlling much of the crew of a Star Destroyer), and it was said that the Empire more or less fell apart when he died over Endor was because he boosted the morale of the entire fleet during the battle.
And since the Old Republic parts of the EU basically did with Force powers what the post-Endor EU did with superweapons, there's probably some Sith-dude who controlled everything, everywhere.

I finally got around to watch Jurassic World yesterday. Well, what can I say... movies about the importance of having children aren't typically my cup of tea, but I like how this one spiced up the topic with a bit of monster drama

Yeah, Jurassic World's children and distant aunt plot was silly. But as action movies go, it was all right. There was some nice dinosaur action. Although, I have to say, the whole camouflaged, genetically engineered super dinosaur thing was a bit silly. Of course, it's hard to top the original Jurassic Park anyway. The whole sense of wonder about dinosaurs being alive can't be recreated after they've been alive for three movies already.

I have to say, I prefer the tone and the pacing of the first movie, which had a lot of suspense to the direction in which they've taken the series which is just 'a whole lotta dinosaurs going bananas'.

Indeed, there are so many good moments in the first, not to mention the brilliant soundtrack accompanying it - and I'm not talking about the super-themes everyone adores, but the tension-theme when Dennis steals the embryos

Or just compare the sexay-n-marketable appearances used in JP4 compared to Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, whom are both much more believable as people of their profession, than the whole slow-strip-tease awkward shit we got with the redhead in the 4th, I begun to seriously expect at least one more moment, where she would finally ditch the skirt, and flee dinosaurs in only her panties. Why didn`t they go for that? Imagine the earnings :O

I watched Inherent Vice.... I think I need to rewatch it with subtitles and a manual because I was completely lost and half the characters being high as fuck and slurring their dialogue didn't help one bit.

In short it's about the appropriation of hippie culture by "The Man" and a conspiracy that introduced drugs to the counterculture movements of the '60s in part to destabilize them and delegitimize any serious political message or goal they might have had. It makes more sense if you read the book or are at least familiar with Pynchon's work, all of it revolves around the themes of "paranoia" and "conspiracy" fyi, but I'd say it's probably his weakest work anyways and your confusion is warranted.

It might be more accurate to say that his work is about conspiracy as the American mythology, if that makes sense. Inherent Vice is Pynchon's look at the countercultures of the '60s and early '70s through this lens.

That was awkward!

It is good.
Also. The Revenant. Pretty decent. And I don't even like Di Caprio that much. Maybe it works because he almost never talks. And is most of the time making angry face. He is good with angry faces. And screaming. Which he does very often as well.

I wanted to go watch "The Embrance of the Serpent" as it's a Colombian movie that was nominated for the Oscars.... but very few theaters are still showing it, thanks Colombia.

Just watched The Martian....not particularly interesting. 6/10 Why is it American movies have to have happy endings, why? Let the dude die on Mars.

Because they needed to scrub all potential introspection from the premise and replace it with Exploshuns and Gravity Slingshots explained by Quirky Black Scientists while the Catholic Latino guy that laughs at everything makes Iron man References and demands Layman terms on his explanation despite being a scientist on a space mission.

I am watching the Hateful 8 this weekend, for some reason that one didn't come out here at the same time as in the US. Same with the Revenant, that one coms out until February.

I thought it was okay but it was not all people made it out to be. I would rate it higher than that. I did think it was going to end up much sadder than it did but the ending was nice. It was actually nice to watch a movie where the main character didn't die after the last few I've seen.

Revenent and Hateful Eight are waaaay better.

Just seen Hateful Eight last night. Great film, really, very enjoyable.

Revenant hits the theaters around here on the 21st, I'm going to see that one too.

Lately re-watched Reservoir Dogs, hadn't seen it since I was a teen, and I hardly remember it. I realize now that I probably compared it unfavorably to Pulp Fiction, but man, I was wrong to do that. The movie has enormous weight on its own, and it even makes Pulp Fiction look like an overstylized mess (despite still being among my favorite movies)
Imo, the end walked a bit in towards predictable territory, but it's okay, the movie as a whole ruled plenty.

Also watched Air, hoping it would feel a bit Fallouty, which it did, untill SPEULER:
The end sucked dick

Also watched the Tron: Legacy, haven't watched the old Tron, and I didn't expect too much from this one. It ended up being exactly what I imagined - a visual party, with no real substance.

It's sad when the ending destroys the whole movie. :(

Reservoir Dogs is awesome by the way. Sort of plays out like a theater play, with the warehouse being the stage. Loved it.

Watched Das Boot again last night. God I love that movie. First time I noticed the total lack of swastikas in it, though. Whenever you see one it's microscopic. Damn censoring laws in Germany. Even the nazi flags are folded in a way that hides the swastika. Oh well.

Huh, I really liked Tron: Legacy. Yet again I am reminded of my substandard taste in films. I do agree that it didn't have much substance, but the visuals and music were done very well. I feel like the popular sarcastic description for it is pretty apt: a two-hour music video for Daft Punk.
