Things we learned from Fallout 4

179.Not liking the Farcryout 4 gives you a ton of hate and a ban on other sides. It doesn't matter if it is a constructive critique or not.

180. Somehow nobody in commonwealth thought about creating any sort of transportation method. It doesn't matter if it was a brahmin caravan or a pre-war vehicle.

181. Level Scaling is one of the worst things to ever appear in gaming, next to horse armour dlc.

184. Bethesda still doesn't know what genre their games are:

Fallout 3 - Genre: RPG
Fallout 4 - Genre: RPG

Obsidian on the other hand:
Fallout New Vegas - Genre: Action, RPG

185. Apparently Mr. House must've been really clutzy with his COMMAND OVERRIDE CODES because Deacon somehow has the one for Mr. Handies and it actually briefly works on a Mr. Handy called Deezer. He claims he won it in a poker game.

186. Yao Guai aren't radioactive enough it seems, so in Fart Harbor there are going to be ghoulfied yao guais.

187. Apparently the octopus population survived the nukes because there are going to be mutated octopi in Fart Harbor as well.

188. Apparently a blue ghoul whale exists somewhere in the ocean near Boston. Given the harpoon gun Fart Harbor's going to give us, it's only natural to assume we're going to hunt this thing Black Flag style.

Oh yes. Far Harbor is going to give us so many more "what I learned from fallout 4" numbers. Isn't it wonderful? Shoot me.

I'm going to be a spoil sport here, and point out that some of these comments are a little invalidated by the fact that they were either already present in the originals and beyond, or make perfect sense. It's a shit game nontheless, but some of these comments are a bit over-dramatic.
2: Ghouls don´t understand their own biology.
While the Kid in the Fridge quest is an abomination, that comment on its own is a bit nitpicky. Can you expect them to?, When most of them were born, there species didn't even exist yet.
13: Vertibirds are 3 seater dragons.
Don't quite get what this is supposed to mean.
18: Boston has 33 easy to obtain Power Armor Suits free for the taking.
To be fair, it is home to C.I.T, you'd expect it to be somewhat more technologically advanced than the rest of the world.
27: No one at Bethesda has ever played Fallout 2 (or probably any of the classics)
Emil and Todd specifically said that they played the originals. I think it's far more likely that Emil is a sellout, and Todd is too passive.
28: Magic exists because there's both enchanted weapons and enemies that can restore their health to full and start glowing after taking 2 bullets, known in some circles as "legendaries".
To be fair, there was a Ghost in Fallout 2. Magic was always established, just not as extremely
43: The female Sole Survivor, despite being a god damn lawyer can somehow hop right into power armor despite having no training…so does this mean power armor requiring training is retconed too?
Power Armor Training was introduced by Bethesda to begin with. In Fallout 1 you can basically just repair and get in a suit of PA just like that, In Fallout 2 you can basically just steal some from the Enclave and get in to it despite being a tribal with no knowledge of the world. I also don't see why people complain about this, as far as I'm aware Power Armor is just a fancy suit with Servos and Air Filters, apart from all the funny dials, why would it take too long to get used to that?
44: Robots can mutate, because reasons.
To be fair "Such and Such has Mutated" is just a line for legendary enemies when they get more powerful. I reckon that's just Beth being lazy, rather than them actually mutating, and really there just slightly more powerful than usual.
46: Every raider can make firearms from junk no matter how insane and illiterate they are.
It doesn't specify every raider can do that. Perhaps there is one craftsman per gang whose making a whole bunch of them. And besides, Fallout 1 raiders of all kinds could forge spears.
60. If you're really good at shooting raiders then you can develop the ability to breath underwater.
Pretty much every Fallout game has similar logic. EG. "I just killed a bunch of Deathclaws, now I suddenly know how to use a computer, and have a PHD in Chemistry" whenever you upgraded the Science skill.
64: A small, isolated group of scientists holed up underground can go on for over 200 years without inbreeding becoming an issue.
Not like any other Fallout game has had a small group of scientists holed up together for 200 years. *Cough Fallout 2* *Cough Enclave*
92. Atom must be the one true God in the Fallout universe since his followers can survive in the Ground Zero of a nuclear explosion despite rads spiking up to the 30s there with no protection whatsoever.
Theres a Fallout 2 Character who was kicked out of Vault City because he was immune to Radiation. Rad Immunities were cannon before FO4.
94: Turns out FEV was pretty common before the war. I mean, just look how prevalent it is throughout America! I bet you could buy canasters of it at your local Super Duper Mart.
To be fair, we've only seen 3 sources so far: Mariposa which makes sense because it's where it was first developed, Vault 87 which makes sense cause Vault-Tec were powerful, and The Institute which makes sense because of course a group of expert scientists would have access to all the cool toys.
104: Raiders, who are ordinary humans, can survive 20 bullets to the head and continue to fight!
Yeah, it's totally not like the originals followed the same logic.
109. The best way to create a deep and interesting companion, is to give them a silly accent.
And Black Isle Studios never did that?, *Cough Sulik *Cough. If anything, Sulik is even less deep.
124. You can buy a dog, get it sent somewhere, never water it, never even see it again, and it will be okay.
Like in every other Fallout game ever made.
125. Halloween decorations are not biodegradable and once stuck on something never come off.
Even the originals had old cardboard boxes and pieces of plastic lying around.
133. Temporary RadAway AIDS?
What does this mean?
at hurts me so much with how they degraded the FO series. But at the same time it's fucking hilarious.

So wait, if FO4 Vertibirds are like this, does this also apply to FO3 Vertibirds? (I wouldn't think it'd apply to NV vertibirds since there's only 2 in the whole game and they probably have their own AI)
I don't think using easy programming tricks is the same thing as degrading a series.
143 - German Sheperds are immortal and immune to radiation. But only after nuclear holocaust, thats a proven scientific fact.
There was a Husky in Fallout 1, and an Australian Shepherd in 1, 2 and 3. Purebred dogs are nothing new
Since Todd Howard is literally depicted as one of the most successful dictators of all history
Chris Avellone was presented as a badass bounty hunter in 1, and a mayor of a town in 2.
185. Apparently Mr. House must've been really clutzy with his COMMAND OVERRIDE CODES because Deacon somehow has the one for Mr. Handies and it actually briefly works on a Mr. Handy called Deezer. He claims he won it in a poker game.
Mr Handies are General Atomics International not RobCo, and the code doesn't even work.

And these things are bad because .....?

Well that's my work done.

While the Kid in the Fridge quest is an abomination, that comment on its own is a bit nitpicky. Can you expect them to?, When most of them were born, there species didn't even exist yet.

The comment is based on a tweet by peter hines ´´the spoke person`` of the company, that failed to explain the absurdity of the quest.

Don't quite get what this is supposed to mean.
They use Skyrim dragon AI but for some reason even dumber than the dragons.

Even the originals had old cardboard boxes and pieces of plastic lying around.
But it wasn't Halloween decorations and they were still rebuilding unlike Fallout 3 and 4.

Theres a Fallout 2 Character who was kicked out of Vault City because he was immune to Radiation. Rad Immunities were cannon before FO4.
I don't remember that but if it was in the game then it probably had a better explanation than "Look we can live in the rads filled hole without turning into ghouls or dying since we worship a bomb". Even if there was no explanation Fallout 2 already had plenty of problems.

Yeah, it's totally not like the originals followed the same logic.
It was nowhere near as bad considering I could play on the highest difficulty in Fallout 1 and 2 without much issues, while in Fallout 4 you have to empty a few clips just to kill someone. It's like Oblivion and Skyrim with their absurd difficulties that think raising the difficulty means bloated health sponges.

And these things are bad because .....?
Because not everything has to be a fucking ghoul, the humanoid ghouls are fine but how the hell does that work for octopus' and whales? It sounds silly as hell and something I can't take seriously.

To be fair, we've only seen 3 sources so far: Mariposa which makes sense because it's where it was first developed, Vault 87 which makes sense cause Vault-Tec were powerful, and The Institute which makes sense because of course a group of expert scientists would have access to all the cool toys.
If all you can say for explaining why the FEV was in vault 87 is "cause Vault-Tek were powerful" then obviously there's no good explanation for it being there, I mean how would it get from California to DC. The explanation you gave is what a writer would give if they were to lazy to explain or couldn't explain why something like that could end up being logical.

I also find it hard to believe that The Institute had the materials to do the EXACT same thing a third time in a row. Where do they get their materials when none of them travel outside of The Institute besides synths and I won't buy "well the synths did it" considering that Boston is a barren wasteland with no progress and nobody giving a shit to rebuild and gather resources. Not mad at you or anything just giving my reasons.

It was mutated Octopus, not Ghoul Octopus. I think it would actually be ok to have some aquatic wildlife.

It was pretty much among the lines of "A rare genetic mutation", what's saying the Children of the Atom in the crater don't have that.
They use Skyrim dragon AI but for some reason even dumber than the dragons.
Don't see the problem with reusing AI.

I'm not defending Bethesda's lazy writing, I'm just saying that 3 powerful organisations having access to it, doesn't mean it's everywhere.

t was pretty much among the lines of "A rare genetic mutation", what's saying the Children of the Atom in the crater don't have that.
Rare being a select few people, on the other hand all the children of the atom must have this if the ones in the crater do so what if there are say 20 or 30 if not more of their members in the Far Harbor DLC? Doesn't sound like "a rare genetic mutation" to me.

It's called laziness, failing to advance your AI to be smarter than being a dumb sack of bricks. When you put dragon AI on a flying vehicle doesn't that sound silly? It does to me, it's even funnier when the same AI is even dumber in a NEWER game. Well they have to save all the money they can to maximize profits especially reusing that aging piece of shit engine gamebyro with a new name slapped on to try to fool the masses.

I'm not defending Bethesda's lazy writing, I'm just saying that 3 powerful organizations having access to it, doesn't mean it's everywhere.
Right there sounds like you are defending it. What are the chances that three different places around the world mind you end up receiving
or developing the exact same virus in a post apocalyptic world? Not to mention only one half of the world has seemed to get their shit together while the other half still builds buildings out of junk. The Master already had a foundation for the FEV that he found if I remember correctly and kept experimenting it to what he thought was "perfection" until he got the results he wanted. How did Vault 87 make the exact same thing or get a hold of it for that matter? How did The Institute create it the exact same way as well without any resources?

Cool thanks.

I'm confused, why would Vault City kick him out for being resistant to radiation? Aren't they super-against irradiated people?

Could be a mutation I guess. Might explain the name Lumpy if we think of him as looking like some of the characters in Mad Max:Fury Road.
