Van Buren tech demo

I was expecting this would happen eventually. Thank you NMA, you rule!!!

I can die peacefully, there is nothing left to wait for.

Well perhaps the news in which Bethesda sells the Fallout franchise to Obsidian or what new company Tim Cain founds (Troika again?) after the failure of Fallout 3 because of disappointing sales.

"Bethesda's Fallout failure due to alienation of original Fallout fans."

Because that totally happened with Oblivion and TES fans... oh wait, no it didn't.

Darn, I can't download it, the FF says that the server responds too much late, ahh, well, let's try some other time. Darn you b#¤%&/()=?.

It hard to read something there. I have TFT 1280 x 1024

You need to edit the ini file in your my docs F3 folder to up the resolution. Read the help section linked in the first post.

oh and BTW: Thanks NMA, :D

Other site covering the Van Buren demo is www.ggmania.com, www.gamershell.com, www.computergames.ro.

Neat :ok: To give a small impression of coverage, here's another list of sites I've spotted covering the topic;

It's great to see that there's been so much interest in it. I must admit I didn't think it would get all that much coverage.

It was also released at a pretty good point, and it seems likely that it will be 'fresh' in a lot of peoples memories once Bethesda shows/tell us something about their Fallout 3.

Again, well done!

Soooo....

I can't, for the life of me, find the F3.ini file.

In the F3 folder in My Docs, there's a F3.log file, and the character files, but that's it. I desperately need to change the resolution. Help!

It should self-generate, but like Mikael said, it might help if you just make it yourself.

It's called F3.ini, here's what it contains:

alright.. now I know I really don't want a rotating camera. It becomes a separate element of the experience. Like, I missed a lot of things of importance just because I didn't rotate the camera. That's not what the game should be about. I do not think it added anything to the overall feel (except for the initial 'wow something new'-feel).

Thanks for giving me the chance to try it out. It is good to know.
But from now on;
A game designed for one, static, perspective. Please.*

* Yes I am talking about a fallout to come here....

A LOT of the rest is awesome though

I respectfully disagree.

To me the point of the isometric camera in the Fallouts was always to support turn-based combat. It's become a part of the game's unique look, but that's the basic reason for it.

The most basic flaw of it is that it wasn't always equally well-designed, for instance that in the Fallout engine you couldn't place any Vault opening on a south wall, for lack of people being able to see it. The feeling of constantly missing stuff because the locked perspective masked it could be a pain.

I'm not inviting to overuse, but I certainly wouldn't say giving an option to rotate hurts the game.

Well the rotating camera is annoying, like it was in Silent Storm.
Better to keep static anything.
