What was the Funniest Argument You've had with a Bethesda Apologist?

What is the Codex?
A place of magic and wonder.
To Bethesda fans they are the biggest assholes on the internet. To most however the Codex is a forum mostly inhabited by old school RPG fans that have a reputation as being the most politically incorrect people outside of /pol/. Personally I love the Codex as it is good to hear people stick it to these assholes in the game industry who want to inject their activism into video games. However, they are know to be less then pleasant to Bethesda fans. They even have a tag that they give to those that say that they are fans of Bethesda and it is named "Bethtard". They also made a gif that has Pete Hines fucking the Vault Boy in the ass named "Your triple A gaming experience".

Is turn based gameplay really that good?
Most of us would probably say that turn-based gameplay is much better for an RPG than first-person shooter gameplay. This is because an RPG is all about your character, including your characters skills and abilities. Your character shouldn’t be able to reliably shoot enemies in the head without having a high guns skill, for example. But in a first-person shooter, if you aim at the head and fire then you’re going to hit the head, regardless of your character’s skill. There are ways around this, stupid shit like having your skill affect how much damage your bullets do, or having bullets fly out of your gun sideways, but with turn-based gameplay this is much easier to simulate. You “order” your character to shoot an enemy in the head, a die is rolled against your character’s skill, and that determines whether the attack hits or not. Player skill isn’t factored into this at all, as it should be.

It seems like a personal hell run on the hate of Todd Howard.

Sounds a lot less user friendly than an fps lol

No, not just Todd Howard but also a hatred for Bioware too. Codex has a mega hatred for current year Bioware and what they have become under EA. God, the posts made when Andromeda came out were fucking hilarious. There was so much comedic gold there.

I heard that Andromeda wasn't good. Personally, I didn't get far in the first game. I was stuck at this door for like 20 minutes right at the beginning of the game and quit because it wouldn't open. I tried everything lol

I mean, it’s really just as user friendly. For both types of gameplay, all you need to do is point and click. With turn based, however, you have a lot more time to react, which can open up the amount of actions that can be taken. Obviously many people don’t find this as fun (I probably didn’t when I was younger), but that’s personal preference.

My favorite meme from the Codex on Andromeda:

I laugh so hard every time I see this that my sides hurt.

I think it sounds complicated because I know nothing about it, lol. I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it.

Is this supposed to be incest?
Yes and that is the joke. Bioware has a reputation of attracting degenerates with their romances with many on the Codex calling Bioware games glorified romance sims. There were fans of Bioware that wanted the main character in Dragon Age 2 to romance his sister. There is also this other funny meme from the Codex:

It seems like a lot of people are stuck in the past and can't let go.
Stuck in the past? You do know that First Person Gameplay is at least as old as top down gameplay, right? FOr fucks sake Bethesda has made first person games for the last 30 years or something? And turn based games are as popular as ever. A lot of games make use of it, on consoles, the PC, smart phones. So tell me, who's stuck in the past exactly here. When was the last time Bethesda has not made a First Person game? I am in my 30s and I remember playing Morrowind almost 20 years ago and that thing is, outside of the visuals updates, pretty similar in what Fallout 3 or Skyrim offers. Albeit with more complexity in the gameplay. But it's still a First Person Game.

I really will never get this "just go with the times granpa!" argument when there are literaly thousands of examples out there that prove what we're talking about isn't about age.

Yeah, my dumbass didn't think of Wolfenstein and Doom. Which is funny because I have Wolfenstein 3D on my PS3 lol but I didn't mean the game style, I meant that a lot of fans can't let go and appreciate the new games for what they are. It's incessant abject cynicism towards the franchise.

Well it is a different design of gameplay. Some FPS games out there can be pretty "user unfriendly" as well. Ever played Arma 3? I would say turn based games are not more difficult than most RTS games. You can look at X-Com or a few newer indie games out there which make use of turn based gameplay. Some are more difficult to get in to than others. But hey, not all games are the same. Geting in to call of duty is certainly easier than getting in to Escape from Tharkov where you have different types of body armour, amunition and countless of weapons with countless of modifications. Or if you look at the Deus Ex games which are a combination of first person shooting and skill points.

The things you prefer always seem easier to get in to. For example I love Jagged Alliance 2 for it's complexity and options when it comes to Turn Based combat where as I thought X-Com didn't offer me enough flexibility in many situations. If you don't like Turn Based that's fine. But really it's not that hard to get.

I've never heard of any of the games you mentioned lmao. Except for Deus Ex, but I didn't like that one.

This is the kind of thing you could get flamed for. A lot of people here really don’t “like the new games for what they are” in the first place. If fallout wasn’t on the cover then they wouldn’t care, it would just be another shitty game. But in this case, the shitty games are being made INSTEAD of the good ones, and every shitty one that comes out reminds us of what we can never have.

Never say never, I think obsidian is cooking up another Fallout game. With luck, maybe Microsoft will let them make it how they want to. I just hope it isn't like The Outer Worlds.

That’s another thing, many people from the New Vegas era (specifically Avellone) have left, so a fallout made by obsidian now isn’t necessarily going to be the same quality. Also, even if the creators of the originals are involved, people change. You mentioned Outer Worlds, well, Tim Cain was a big name on that project, but after playing Outer Worlds, the Tim Cain that helped create fallout over 20 years ago is not the same man he is today, creatively speaking.
