Why does this website dislike Fallout 3 so much?

He (ManyATrueNerd) also seems to think that roads existing in New Vegas were handholding and sheltering the player from danger. He thinks roads are handholding. As in, roads are bad map design because roads show players paths to major settlements and trade routes. You know, kinda what roads do anyway? The way he said it from what I remember also just implies you can complete most of vanilla New Vegas quests by staying on roads and being relatively safe because there are more dangerous enemies off the roads. That also just implies that there aren't enemies on the roads, like the first time you leave Nipton or the Legion ambush on the caravan somewhat near Novac, or the other raiders, geckos, ants, and bloatflies you see on the roads. And the roads are also only really meant to be the intended path in the part of the early game/Act I of hunting down Benny and taking the safer route to New Vegas. The off road areas are for higher level players who are starting to get into the world more either by exploring, doing the main questlines and needing to meet the other factions, etc.
Claiming roads are too safe for players to complete the game is nearly like saying the ability to fast travel with no random encounter chances to a safe settlement is too handholding, which I would say is a better argument.
Did he seriously said this? This is a bunch of utter bullshit. I have ran into fucking Deathclaws while staying on the roads. This guy just seems to be a butthurt Fallout 3 fanboy that can't handle the fact that a lot of people consider New Vegas much better than Fallout 3.

Give me a fucking break, the first goddamn clue to your dad in Fallout 3 is right in front of you after you leave the Vault and he wants to talk about handholding?

I have said this in other thread, there seems to be a recent surgence of Fallout 3 fanboys either going to forums or make videos to try to convince people that Fallout 3 is actually good. Even go as far as targeting New Vegas, Fallout 2 and even Fallout 1 to make Fallout 3 seem better than it actually is.

If you care about morality, choice, writing, characters, and story, you will NOT say that Fallout 1, 2, or NV aren't as good as 3 or "Fallout" 4

Dont know about other TES, but both in Oblivion and Skyrim, it is safer to stay on the roads. As it should be, by the way. unlike FO3, the worlds of TES are wonderfully well-designed.

I do not understand what the point the guy wants to get.

And besides, does anyone really get dying repeatedly in these shitty gamebryo games? It's not like we were talking about a dark souls here or something similar.

Yeah, he really does. And he says a great thing about 3 is the lack of roads sending you in a direction. It's absurd to think a few highways makes a game handholding compared to a game like Fallout 3.

He forgets that those exist for the world itself, so that trade routes exist. Hence why the NCR and other merchants have them.

Then again, he likes Fallout 3 which has some of the worst world design and world building in the series.

Many are like that because they played Fallout 4 and started to miss stuff like Skills, dialogue checks, extensive dialogue options, etc. which Fallout 4 lacks.

They liked Fallout 3 and started to remember how Fallout 3 did those things better than Fallout 4. So they want to show to others how Fallout 3 was a good game (specially compared to Fallout 4).

The problem is when they start using other Fallout games to try and make Fallout 3 seems good. It is like they need to say that Fallout 3 is better than the other ones as a way to elevate Fallout 3 status or something. Many times, in these situations, it's obvious that they didn't play Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas side by side with the same care. It's like they are remembering the games, instead of refreshing their memory by actually playing them. Or many times, they play only a couple hours of both games or rushed to beat them and think that is enough. Because many people use comparisons that show how they never entered the "meat" of the games, specially Fallout New Vegas.

Then they remember Fallout 3 being good and Fallout New Vegas being less good, because Fallout New Vegas is more subtle, it "rewards" an invested player that takes it's time to explore the world, people and the politics of the world. Which they might not have seen or explored at all.
While Fallout 3 is more in your face, it "rewards" a player right from the start with it's action and shiny things. Where even in the first hour of play, the player is already happily killing stuff and getting loot.

I liked Many with his New Vegas playthrough but the nonsense he's spitting out is just bullshit. The fact that he said that NV handholds you is an utter lie. Even if the roads are safe, you still get ambushed more than 3 fucking times. After going past Novac to Boulder City, for example, you get sandwiched between 2 hills and you get ambushed by Vipers with GRENADE LAUNCHERS and decent weapons. And besides, the game is *suggesting* that you should take the safe way because you're not ready for I-15 which is filled with Deathclaws, it doesn't force you or anything. You do what you want. Fallout 3 has literally none of that, it's mostly safe and unsafe areas are usually at the edge of the map or behind a shitton of metro subway-labyrinths that are pretty annoying to navigate through. The only thing hard about Fallout 3 are the Super Mutant Overlords and the Feral Ghoul Reavers. How does he come up with all this crap? Why does he have to be so presistent about Fallout 3 apparently being better than NV? It's not, the signs are obvious but I bet he's just so nostalgic like *ughuhuhuhuh it's my first fallout game and it brings back so many memories, it has so many memorable characters and this nostalgia totally doesn't cloud my judgement ughuhuhuhuhu*. What a fucking joke. His video is also just nitpicking that really nobody else gives a shit about. I can't praise The Pitt. It seems like a good idea at first until the end. What the fuck? No slideshow, no nothing. You just deliver the kid or whatever and you're just sitting there with radiant quests not knowing what happened. Never really liked it in the first place, only thing about it is the equipment. I'm gonna talk about the other DLCs too and my opinions:

Mothershit Zeta is just that, fucking absolute utter trash that adds aliens into the lore demolishing any real genuine political issues between China and USA. "Hahahaha these intelligent beings from outer-space are controlling us to do this for whatever reason, this is such a good idea for a story hahahaha" FUCK YOU! it's not!

Operation Anchorage: Linear corridor-shooter DLC (in an RPG game btw) with the best and most durable armor as a reward at the end to keep permanently, which makes the game a lot easier even on Very Hard (like it even fucking matters).

Point Lookout: Actually good DLC which never failed to impress me, despite it being Fallout 3, that unfortunately will become copied in Fallout 4 for Far Harbor.

Broken Steel: The DLC from Bethesda that retcons your death and fixes issues with the ending that should of been obviously fixed in the vanilla game (like the whole "DIE BECAUSE IT'S YOUR DESTINY" bullshit). Mostly action and most of the skills are used for getting extra loot and bypassing some fights that should be easy to beat.

The endings added in with Broken Steel were terrible too. If you let Fawkes step into the chamber it calls him the true hero. What the hell? He's a goddamn super mutant! Now we don't have to have any casualties. The choice doesn't even matter anyway.

Just recently i was going through one of the roads he says is "safe" and i ran into 4 or 5 raiders, one with a grenade launcher.

More and more i believe that he just got triggered by the constant criticism of Fallout 3 has gotten in last several years and decided to white knight it due to being nostalgia biased for the game (he calls it an utter classic in the description, jesus christ). And obviously decided to target New Vegas with bullshit criticisms to make it seem worse compared to Fallout 3 because this is the 3D Fallout that gets the most praise from a lot of people.

From what I believe they actually fixed that in a later Broken Steel patch, I never knew about that until I read about it and saw that they also called Fawkes the hero in an earlier version of Broken Steel. Still disgusting how it was their initial intention with it, despite the fixes.

Yep and they have the same things with the other radiation-immune companions too. Hell I don't even think any dialouge changes were made, just a picture change

IRRC (third hand info), the radiation immune companions in the game originally just refused to do it.

Fawkes said "it was your destiny". Some pretentious, nonsensical writing to try to justify your "sacrifice". Which is made worse by the fact that you could be evil as hell, but you would still need to sacrifice.
